OPERATION NOTES: (*) NEW INFORMATION SINCE LAST ISSUE
1. GOES-4. DEACTIVATED AFTER DISPOSAL MANEUVER ON NOV 22, 1988.
2. GOES-5. (*) AFTER EIGHT AND ONE HALF YEARS OF SERVICE GOES-5 DEPLETED ITS
STATION-KEEPING FUEL. LAUNCHED IN 1981, WAS DESIGNED FOR AN OPERATIONAL LIFE OF
SEVEN YEARS. BECAUSE OF NO-FUEL THIS SATELLITE WILL BEGIN TO DRIFT WESTWARD
APPROX 0.25 DEGREES PER DAY AND START A PERIODIC CYCLE OF DRIFTING BETWEEN 145
AND 65 DEGREES WEST, WITHIN AN 18 MONTH PERIOD. STARTING IN FEB, 90, GOES-5
WEFAX WILL BE SIMULTANEOUSLY TRANSMITTED TO GOES-7. IN LATE JUNE, 90 GOES-5
EFAX WILL BE TERMINATED BECAUSE OF ITS CONFLICTING POSITION WITH GOES-7. AN
EXACT DATE/TIME WILL BE ANNOUNCED. ALSO, AT THIS TIME GOES-7 WILL BECOME THE
OPERATIONAL EAST WEFAX SATELLITE. GOES-7 WEFAX WILL BE AFFECTED BY VDM
INTERFERENCE AND REDUCED TRANSPONDER POWER BECAUSE OF PRIORITY VISSR DATA.
USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TEST RECEPTION OF GOES-7 OR GOES-6 WEFAX BEFORE GOES-5
WEFAX IS OPERATONALLY TERMINATED. A GOES-5 DRIFT SCHEDULE WILL BE TRANSMITTED
VIA WEFAX, I.E.: "OPERATIONAL MESSAGE". IN THE INTERIUM, PERIODIC REPOSITIONING
OF THE GOES-5 TRACKING ANTENNA WILL BE REQUIRED. A DRIFT ESTIMATE AND POSITION
SCHEDULE FOLLOWS:

3. GOES-6. THE IMAGING FUNCTION OF THIS SATELLITE FAILED SAT JAN 21, 1989
RESULTING IN A ONE-GOES WEFAX TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. WEFAX RECEPTION ON THIS
SATELLITE HAS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED AS THE RESULT, I.E., FULL POWER FOR THE
TRANSPONDER DOWN LINK.
4. GOES-7. ON OCT 19TH, BEGAN MOVEMENT TO THE WINTER STORM POSITION AT 0.2
DEG/DAY ARRIVINGE AT 108W NOV 30, 89. IN THE SPRING THIS SATELLITE WILL BE
MOVED EAST TO 98 DEGREES WEST TO SUPPORT THE SUMMER ATLANTIC HURRICANE WATCH
SEASON. GOES-7 CONTINUES TO BROADCAST STRETCHED VAS, DCS, AND SEM. DIRECT
READOUT OF VAS DATA IS 1687.1 MHz. (*) SEE NOTE 2, GOES-5.
5. WEFAX TRANSMISSION SCHEDULE CHANGE. A REVISED WEFAX TRANSMISSION SCHEDULE
WAS IMPLEMENTED AUG 23, 1989 AT 0000Z. A CURRENT SCHEDULE WAS MAILED WITH WEFAX
INFORMATION NOTE 89-W2, THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 21. (NOTE: ALSO POSTED ON THE
ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD.

IN GOES-7. THE CURRENT ANTENNA SYSTEM BEING USED IS THE
7M. SPRING ECLIPSE SEASON CONTINUES THROUGH APRIL 05.
GOES-6: (GOES-WEST) POSITION: 134.6W., INCLINATION: 1.9 DEG.

WITH DATA RETRANSMITTED IN MODE AAA FORMAT THROUGH BOTH GOES-7
