Welcome to the AA4RE mailbox V 2.11 test version
------------------------------------------------
Sorry this took so long but I think you will be pleased. Lots of
new features to make your life as a SYSOP easier.
The biggies are:
-- Forwarding gets computed on the fly
-- All sorts of new ways to select messages (See SEARCH.DOC)
-- Action file to control various features (See ACTION.DOC)
* Prevent bad messages from being originated
* Hold certain messages for operator review
-- ARES support (See MODE.DOC)
Conversion
----------
2.11 has major changes in forwarding. You probably have to redo your
ROUTE.BB file.
The change is in the way hierarchical addresses are handled.
Previously the address
CA.USA.NA
matched to CA, USA, and NA. This is not true with 2.11. The matching
string is now CA\.USA\.NA. The \ indicates that everything to the right
is optional. Thus, CA\.USA\.NA will match CA, CA.USA, and CA.USA.NA.
In addition, the search for a match is conducted at each period so
#SOCAL.CA.USA.NA will also match CA\.USA\.NA. This string will not
match CA.JPN.AS since the CA is not followed by USA.
For those who persist in NOAM, you can use something like:
CA\.USA\.N*
PARMS.BB has been changed too. See CONVERT.DOC for details
Documentation
-------------
Documentation is spread out in a number of file all ending in .DOC.
I do this to allow me to update them easily. I am not a very good tech
writer so things may be a little obsure. N4CHV has written some pretty
good documentation and should be contacted for copies. I don't have them!
To my test users
----------------
Thank you for helping make 2.11 as good as it is. Your help is greatly
appeciated. Every hour of your testing makes my job one hour easier.
To: 2.1F, G, H, K users: Sorry about the bug in distribution code. I
have included a BBMFIX2 that will "fixup" your MSG.BB. It will insert a
distribution to LOST for those whose distribution records were garbled.
I recommend you run BBMFIX2 on your MSG.BB. If any other errors other
than distribution list fixup are reported, lemme know.

DON'T SEND ME DISKETTES!!!!!!

Dave and John handle the distribution to allow me more time to write
code. Special thanks to them for this service.
Usage, Registration, and Contributions
--------------------------------------
A question has come up as to the status of this program. It is free for
any use (commercial, non-commercial, governmental) but cannot be sold.
The copyright explictly says this. The program is NOT public domain.
You can't take it, make some changes, and sell it as your own.
For those who worry about such things, I explictly grant permission to
all Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), Civil Air Patrol
(CAP), and Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) organizations to use
these programs.
There is no need to register your copy with anyone. Enjoy!
I don't solict contributions but any money you want to send will not be
thrown away. My own equipment is very limited and I depend on friends,
and companies to supply the different varieties of TNCs. DRSI and Paccomm
have been very helpful in the past.
Feedback
--------
Please keep those messages flowing in. My BBS environment here is not
the same as meany of yours so I appreciate your suggestions. Many of
the features of this release were suggested by SYSOPs who I have never
met.
Service
-------
I try to help everyone as much as I can but the mail and phone gets
overwhelming. I spend a lot of hours working on this program and the
more time I have to develop things, the faster new releases will come
out. New SYSOPs should contact others in the same area for assistance
in setting their system up. I am sure that you will find plenty of
helpers out there.
I don't get to answer everything I want to so a question or comment may
never get answered. I am sorry but writing this program is wedged in
amongst my other hobbies and other ham radio activities.
If you don't like this policy I am sorry but that is the way it is. At
least you got the program for free and didn't get ripped off.
Please use electronic mail. I am very bad at letters. Phone calls are
ok if you need a lot of info. I PREFER MESSAGES!
My phone number is 408-847-3210. Please try only between 8:00 PM and
9:30 PM Pacific time weekdays or 10 AM to 7PM weekends.
Electronically, I can be reached via:
Internet: ENGE @ IBM.COM
BITNET: ENGE at ALMADEN
You can reach me on COMPUSERV thru the INTERNET gateway.
I can also be reached thru many of the IBM Radio Clubs.
