**** STATES.DOC ****
If you have down-loaded these files from a phone BBS system the very
first thing you should do is, format a floppy disk in your A: drive.
Once you have done this, create a directory from the A> prompt using
the DOS command
A>MD FILES.HDR
Now, get back to the directory and drive where you have stored the
downloaded files and using the copy command, copy the following files
to the floppy disk.
COPY *.HDR A:\FILES.HDR
COPY MAKEFILE.EXE A:
COPY STATES.TXT A:
A quick check of the floppy disk should show that you have 59 files
in the directory A:\FILES.HDR and two files in the root directory.
MAKEFILE.EXE
The program MAKEFILE.EXE will first ask you what hard disk you want
your state files installed on. The options are C: D: and E:. Once
you have input the proper drive information the program will prompt
you for the type of file you wish to make, your options are:
Option 1 - Will make the smallest individual state files. These files will
contain only information from the header file plus the calls of
the BBS systems. (Space Saver option)
Option 2 - Will create an individual file for each state, containing all
the header file information plus Calls, Cities, & Zip Codes as
well as the SysOps first name.
Option 3 - Will create an individual file for each state containing all
the same information as in option 2 but, will also include the
User Port frequency's.
Option 4 - Will create an individual file for each state containing all
of the information as in option 3 but, will also include BBS
only frequency's.
Once you have entered your option the program starts to copy the header
files to a directory it has created on your hard disk called \STATES. As
the header files are copied the extension .HDR is removed. After all the
header files have been copied the program copies the ASCII version of the
Dbase 3+ file to your hard disk and starts to append the information line
by line to the individual state files. This process should take about one
minute on a 286 computer with a 28ms hard drive. Once this operation is
complete the program will ask you if you have sent in an update on your
BBS system. If you answer NO to this question, the software will then
ask you a series of questions about your BBS system. These questions will
then be written to a ASCII file called MY-INFO and will be stored in the
root directory of your hard drive in the proper format. You can then simply
forward this file to the database so your updated information will be
included in the next STATES.TXT file.
In the future you will not have to down-load the entire package the only
file you will need is the latest STATES.TXT. These updated files will be
on phone BBS systems with the title: UDmmddyy.ZIP -- UD(DATE).ZIP
Any new versions of the software will be listed as: STATE-V2.ZIP
All comments and suggestions as well as any updated information you
might have about your system should be sent to: SP DBASE @ WA2PVV.NY
