Subject: Terminology and Networking
What is meant when you say This is not compatible with That?
Compatible; (Webster)
1. capable of living together harmoniously or getting along well together;
in agreement; congruous
2. that can be mixed without reaction chemically or interfering with
one another's action
Given this definition I say that the ROSE X.25 Switch is compatible with *ALL*
forms of Networking devices in the Amateur Packet Network.
The ROSE X.25 Switch does *NOT* replicate the exact features of Net/Rom.
It provides a lower overhead, network with a single purpose reliable data
transfer, see ROSESW.INF for a complete list of features (ALL OPERATIONAL)
Who should download the full archive?
People who want to install the ROSE Switch as a better alternative.
or (editorial bias removed)
People who want to install the ROSE Switch as a different alternative.
This is not to say that the features that a Net/Rom provides are not useful.
Why doesn't ROSE have these features yet?
I have felt that it is more important to provide a reliable base targeted
for moving information, since the highest percentage of the usage of the
networks is for mail forwarding or other bulk transfers.
This is not to say that additional features will not be added in the future,
I am working on an interface to allow you to "roll your own" switch, selecting
the features that you want for each switch.
