Modular Plug to DB25 port: This convertor is becoming increasingly more
popular as the room on a computer or computer board becomes more limited.
By using a modular(RJ45) size plug, less space is required on the back of
the computer or peripheral. Space really becomes an issue as laptops and
other small systems increase in popularity.
The modular port takes the place of a DB25 port on a device. This limits
the number of pins available for RS232 compatibility to only 8. With most
devices, this does not pose a problem in asynchronous environments. However
with synchronous devices, this does not appear to be practical yet.
When noting the pin numbers, be sure that you are looking at the modular
port from the right perspective. The SCS program always looks at the port
with the snaplock piece on the bottom, with the end of the port facing the
user. The port is similar to the wall phone outlet in your home.
