Parms HELP for BBSERV.EXE (c) 1991 Freeman M. Crosby W1NPR (SRQLAN)
1.BBSERV.EXE is a remote file server for use with the AA4RE BBS programs
from V2.11 + (c) 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 by H. Roy Engenhausen.
2.Setup is easy as it reads parms.bb for all it's information, you must
add a few comment lines to it to give it the name you want it to respond
to and the directories you want to use & their paths.
3.Add to parms.bb at the top of list using comment lines (*) BE EXACT !
* Select your own name for your server installation or use BBSERV
The server will respond to DBSERV, BBSERV & REQFIL in addition to this
one, if you specialize in MODS, HUMOR, etc. you may use that. See the
special file on the REQFIL command REQFIL.DOC
* ;dih is a shadow directory ( SHD ) ( DBSERV/BBSERV compatability )
* ;dip is a public directory ( PUB )
* ;dir is a read-only directory or ( PRI )
* ;dis is the directory description & must be included for proper operation
* ;dio is the "OWNER" of the database ( Put your call here for now )
* If you include a directory as in the first example called srv with the
exact parameters you will be able to receive the BBSERV data from the
main BBSERV server at W1NPR and your server files will be updated for
you. To be updated in this fashion send a (P) message to BBSERV@W1NPR
Subject? REGISTER SRV you will be notified of any changes thereafter.
* The setserve.exe program will create any of the directories needed to
operate with the needed subdirectories if they don't exist & report to
you any errors if you answer "Y" to create directories. It's a good
idea to say "Y" anyway.
********* Notice Database names should be limited to 5 letters !!!! ******
Follows an example : DO NOT COPY THIS FILE ! use your own directories !

4.Directories may be either ones you normally use or ones only for the server
and should be at the top of the file, the format is important. This leads
the server to the proper directory from the alias request in the message.
Run SETSERVE.EXE and follow it's help files
5.You *** MUST *** have a \UPL\ subdirectory in each "PUBLIC" directory for
uploaded files. It is not mentioned in PARMS.BB but you will have to
have it or an error message will be generated. This lets you screen all
files available to users. A PUT Dir command with no filename will put a
file in the "PUBLIC" directory as Filename.ext users CALL.TXT
** This is done for you if you answer "Y" to create directories in setserve.
5.You must edit your trailer (.TRL) and reply (.REP) messages to suit your
own requirements.
These reside in your bbserv_dir directory, BBSERV gets the remaining paths
from parms.bb using setserve.exe
6.It runs as a server command from wakeup.bb IE: ==/==/== ==:15 EL BBSERV.EXE
Make sure you specify the whole filename.ext & path if used above !
7.BBSERV alters the backup msg.bb file and then the EL command loads it into
AA4RE when finished.
8.Questions may be sent to BBSERV@W1NPR Subject? INPUT Msg? Your text
The server will reply when received & file the message for review.
9. Thanks for using BBSERV.EXE, 73 Free W1NPR >>
