Introduction to BayCom V1.20
----------------------------
Baycom Version 1.20 is the PC version of Digicom, but with
extra's not seen before. Prior to running Baycom, you should
edit SCC.INI this is a ASCII file containing your default
parameters, any text editor will do or a word processor in
non-document mode.
Do not do this on the disk you reveived, make a copy or two
first! The default colours are quite good, so you need not
worry about editing the screen attributes, unless you really
don't like the colours. Once SCC.INI has been edited, you can
run PARA.EXE this will compile the file into SCC.PAR for use by
the program, don't worry PARA.EXE does'nt delete SCC.INI so you
can do it again till you get it right.
NOTE:
To make life easier, I've written a short batch file SETUP.BAT to
automatically bring SCC.INI on screen for editing and compiling
after running SETUP.BAT you'll be ready to use BayCom!
This version is the first in the UK, it will depend on YOU the
user if we are to receive updates from Germany, the Baycom team
have suggested a donation of 20DM, about £8.00 for their
efforts and so that they can continue more work, this is not
much to ask! If you don't want to send direct to Germany, then
send it via me, German currency ONLY (you can get a 20DM note
from any bank and I'm told Thomas Cook's) I will then send
these donations on for registration in Germany.
Lets put it this way, how would you like others to know that
you are using a "unregistered" copy of Baycom? This will become
clear who did and who did'nt shortly after the first update.
And all for eight quid!
I hope to produce a detailed English (disk based) manual very
soon, those who have used Digicom should take to Baycom without
any problems, a sheet should come with this disk giving details
on the converstion of the AM7910 Digicom modem and the Baycom
VHF modem should you wish to build one.
Please do NOT give copies of this disk to others unless it
contains ALL of the files that are on it now, don't be tempted
to copy a few files off your hard disk, COPY THE ENTIRE
DISKETTE! The calls I reveived with people giving just a few
files from the Digicom program away were far to many, this
causes new users to be put off and I get a call to sort it all
out, just because someone could'nt be bothered to copy the
entire disk! If I receive calls like this again, I'll track the
offender down and telephone to complain at 3.30am of course!
Point taken?
Let me also point out again, if you don't register, then you'll
not receive any updates, you'll also be the meanest amateur in
the UK!
Please do NOT "reverse engineer" Baycom, if you modify files DO
NOT PASS them on to others. You could infringe copyright also!!
Baycom Help calls, can be made on a one way basis (I NEVER call
back) on 0268 727237 after 6.30PM most nights, if I'm out ask
for a time to call back, don't leave your number or you'll wait
forever!
Modem diagrams are available on receipt of an SAE and 50p to cover
photocopying costs. Ready built modems are also available, these
are usable on VHF & HF, please call me on 0268 727237 most nights
after 6.30pm.
