THE TOTAL HAM
COMPLETE STATION RECORD KEEPING PROGRAM
Copyright 1988 BY DICK MILLER WD4AZG
VERSION 9.0
Revised documentation
>>>>>>> IMPORTANT:
Version 9.0 is distributed in 2 ZIP files.
TOTHM9-1.ZIP contains the new EXE file & the DOCs.
TOTHM9-2.ZIP contains the data files for new users of TOTAL HAM.
THIS WILL BE THE LAST SHAREWARE VERSION TO BE RELEASED
Future Versions of TOTAL HAM will be in the form of TOTAL HAM PLUS.
This IS a commercial series. See PLUS.DOC for details.
NOTE:
New features are highlighted with >>>>> NEW with version
Additions clarifying the documentation are highlighted with
>>>>> Addition to documentation
Version 7.0 is compiled under a different compiler. The file size
is slightly smaller & runs a little faster, especially in the NET
style logging.
INTRODUCTION:
This program is my answer to the problem of not having the
proper program running or not having the info available while on the
air. It will allow logging and dupping and at the same time have a beam
heading list, your country & state checklists, QSL info all available on
line now when you need it. It will also allow you to log in QSL cards as
received, automatically entering the information to your log.
The TOTAL HAM will do almost anything you need for your ham records.
The program is only limited by the size of the disk. A hard disk or floppy
drives greater than 360K is recommended with this program to have enough room
for a log of any size. Read FLOPPY.DOC for more information.
I recommend you try the program out on a test set of files. If you
like the program and wish to use it, register it with me & input your paper
log from the point you wish to start. Input in date order as you would on
paper. This will insure your hard copy print out from the log will be in order.
By then you should have received your customized BEAM.DAT file. You may then
start using the program on the air and the log will be kept up from that point
on as it should be.
START UP:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> VERY IMPORTANT:
***** Be sure your CONFIG.SYS file contains FILES=20. ******
Be sure your system clock is set to local time. This program will
get the system time and convert it to UTC for logging purposes.
UPGRADING:
Upgrading from Version 8.1 requires nothing but exchanging the
EXE file.
The program, when first run, will sense the absence of the file
TOTLHAM.CFG & bring up the following screen:
Default answers to all Y/N prompts are in [ ]'s
__________________________________________________________________________
Configuration required
Do you have a color monitor? Y/[N]
This program will automatically convert the computers
system time to UTC. Conversion factor is needed
If you keep your system clock set to local time, ENTER
the number of hours diference between local & UTC
EXAMPLE: UTC - EST = 5 ; ENTER 5
If you keep your system clock set to UTC, ENTER 0
Number of hours BEHIND UTC: 4
Although NOT recomended TOTAL HAM will run on a 360K floppy system.
SEE FLOPPY.DOC for details
Since this program is very disk intensive, speed suffers dramatically.
Do you want a floppy system? Y/[N] n
__________________________________________________________________________
TOTALHAM.CFG is then made & the program will no longer ask.
>>>>>> Addition to documentation
If you ever want to change to color or hard disk, simply erase
the file TOTALHAM.CFG. The program will then start from scratch.
<<<<<<<

enters it if not found. If an entry exists you are allowed to edit

CHOICE H From the main menu - Add to BEAM HEADING list:
Allows entry of alternate prefixes to the BEAM HEADING file. The prefix is
first checked to be sure it does not exist. If not you will be asked for the
country name. All entries under that name are displayed & you are given the
choice of which one you wish to duplicate. This method will prevent you from
having to know the heading for that country. Floppy users should be careful
of the file size as you add to it.
NOTE: Register your copy & receive your customized BEAM HEADING file before
you add anything to the file.

*** IMPORTANT ***
Change UTC conversion factor - You MUST input the number of hours behind UTC
for your time zone. Also REMEMBER to change this on change to Daylight
savings time and back to Standard.
The program AUTOMATICALLY converts from local time to UTC for log entries
from your system clock and AUTOMATICALLY enters it to your log. So be SURE
your system clock is set and UTC is correct before using the logging option
of this program.
OPERATION:
When the program is first started your system time & UTC time is
displayed. This allows a check of the conversion to UTC. If your system time is
wrong, change it from DOS. If the UTC time is wrong go to the FILE MAINTENANCE
MENU and change to conversion factor to the proper value. This value is saved
to a memory file and will not have to be changed until daylight savings time
comes in or out.
The individual menu options are covered fairly well above but a few tips
will help you get the full use of the program.
When asked for a prefix, partial prefixes can be useful to find matches.
EXAMPLE:
If you input VK0, you will only find VK0. to find all VK'S, enter only VK.
V only will display everything beginning with V. It is always better, if not
sure, to find more than you need so you won't miss something.
When entering QSL managers the program will check the file first for
a prior entry. If found it will display what is there and allow you to edit
it if you want. If NOT found you are asked if you want to add it. The call
of the DX station is automatically entered and you only have to enter the
managers information. If you have made a mistake in the DX stations call,
note it, and enter it again. Now you will now be able to edit it.
Place 10-10 numbers in the Exchange field of log preceeded by 10X.
COMMERCIAL:
TOTAL HAM is to be distributed as SHAREWARE. Unmodified, complete copies
may be distributed & shared by all so long as no commercial use or sale is
made. Do not include this program with other programs.
**** Please DO NOT rename the ZIP File. The number is very important.
Print out and complete REGISTER.DOC to become a register user.
Be SURE to enter your home latitude and longitude for you customized
beam heading file.
Try the program on a backup set of files to see how they work.
I think the program is a complete HAM SHACK record keeping system.
I have used the program extensively and have modified it many
times. If you think of a modification, or addition to improve it, I
would appreciate it if you would drop a note in the mail to me, or
leave a comment on my RBBS. I will evaluate it for incorporation
into future revisions - with due credit of course.
ENJOY!
