  2. Here is the list of 10 frequencies that most cordless phones
  3. operate on.  Almost every scanner has the capability of receiving
  4. these frequencies.  With an indoor telescoping antenna you can
  5. receive most cordless phones within a city block.  With an outdoor
  6. antenna some cordlesses can be heard up to a mile away.  I was
  7. really amazed when my friend could hear my cordless 6 blockes away,
  8. but I can only talk on it about 2 blocks.

  10. Listening to cordless phones is not illegal.  Cordless phones do
  11. not fall under the laws of the ECPA (Electronics Communications
  12. Privacy Act of 1986, Public Law 99-508).  The ECPA was forced, by
  13. cellular phone companies, through the 99th congress which had run
  14. two weeks late.  Legislators were so anxious to close up shop that
  15. they spent exactly 25 seconds discussing this law's intent and
  16. merits before rubber stamping it.  The ECPA says it's illegal to
  17. monitor voice paging systems, SCA subcarriers on FM broadcasters,
  18. scrambled or coded transmissions, remote broadcast or studio-
  19. transmitter broadcast links, private microwave systems, or
  20. Common Carriers.  A Common Carrier is a communication service
  21. available to the general public for hire, such as a car phone.
  22. Tone only pagers, cordless phones, and systems relating to
  23. aircraft or maritime communications are exempted from the ECPA.

  25. Anyway, I thought I would throw in that above bit of information,
  26. because there are hundreds of scanner owners who are afraid of
  27. listening to cordless phone calls because they heard of this
  28. ridicules ECPA law, and that they can get fined thousands of
  29. dollars for doing so.  Funny thing is that if you were listening
  30. to these illegal systems, who would know inless you told them.
  31. One law about scanner listening is that everything you do hear,
  32. you are supposed to keep to yourself anyway.  Happy listening.

  34. In the below list at the left is the cordless phone channel number.
  35. Many cordless phones say channel A or B, ect.  and it's hard to
  36. tell exactly how they actually have their channel numbering
  37. scheme to match the true channel numbers.  In the second line
  38. is the frequency in MGZ, that the base unit transmits on.  This
  39. is the frequency that most listeners will listen too, because
  40. you can hear both parties.  The third line is the frequency in MGZ,
  41. that the remote unit transmits on.  This is usually not that
  42. great to listen too because usually you can only hear the party
  43. using the cordless phone, and another reason is that a lot of
  44. baby monitors operate on these frequencies in this same range,
  45. and keep your scanner locked on these channels.  With a little
  46. monitoring you will develop your own choices in what to listen too.
