Volunteer Examiners' Code Exam Validator
Version 2.1, 05/25/89
This program is provided as a public service to amateurs who are
conducting Volunteer Examiner Sessions and require a way to validate
their exams. This program may be freely distributed.
Exams for FCC Amateur Radio Code Elements 1A, 1B, and 1C must
contain the letters A-Z, the numbers 0-9, punctuation marks , . and ?
and the prosigns <BT> (-), <DN> (/), <AR> (@), and <SK> ($).
(( Please note the use of symbols corresponding to those used ))
(( by WD5CID's Super Morse program, @ for <AR> and $ for <SK>. ))
If all required characters are contained in the test file, a note
is made to that effect. If some are missing, it lists first all of
the letters that ARE contained, then lists all the characters that
are NOT contained in the file. * (This feature is added in 2.1)
Code elements should be at least 5 minutes in length, in order to
allow the applicant to have ample opportunity to copy one full minute,
or for the test to have enough content for 10 questions.
The output also includes the text of the the test with spaces left
out, 25 characters to a line, with the characters that are counted as
two characters for solid copy (0-9 and , . ?) followed by an underline.
The applicant's copy can be checked quickly for count by starting on
the first correct character and proceeding downward by columns for as
long as copy is still correct, counting 25 characters per line.
(( This is minutes at 5 wpm or fourths of minutes at 20 wpm. ))
(( For 13 wpm, use two consecutive lines plus 10 columns. ))
Usage:
vefc input-file output-file
If the output-file name is omitted, the output goes to the screen.
vefc 2.1 was compiled with Turbo C 1.0 under MS-DOS 3.3
