WORLDFIX
The accompanying programs should include DXCC.EXE and
DXCC.DAT. The Initialization program should be written by the
user from the opening Menu selection. The version number
should be "6.0".
Use of this program acknowledges this disclaimer of warrenty:
This program is supplied "as is" and the author disclaims all
warrenties, expressed or implied. In other words, the use of
this program is at the users risk. The program was written
for personal use and has been released by request of others.
WorldFix or as I generally rename it "DXCC.EXE" provides the
user with several menu choices. You will probably find the
first Menu Item used the most as if you know the Prefix ( as
listed within the Data Base ) you can get an almost immediate
bearing from your location. Although the input may be made in
either Upper or Lower Case, it is imperative that the data
entries be made in UPPER case - the searches really are "case
sensitive".
When you first run the program, you will want to initialize
your home QTH. That will include the City Name, and its
coordinates (in degrees and minutes). You will also want to
setup two printer codes...Expand ON and Expand Off. These
will be maintained in a .INI file to permit customization.
Although the Initialization requests two (each) printer codes
your printer may only require one; for example, your printer
may require both a 27 and 14 to turn the Expand mode on. The
program is looking for 2 numbers, in this case, 27 and 14...
You may, however, have a printer which only requires a single
number to activate or de-activate the Expand Mode...In this
case you would enter a zero in place of the initial number.
Example: 0,14
Don't forget the comma. If it is not done this way, you will
get a "Redo from start" message. If that happens, simply
enter the numbers correctly.
This is a compiled program with some arrays stored in memory.
For this reason, and for individual convenience the Data
resides in an external ASCII file so that you may make any
desired changes with a Word-Processor, Text Editor or Edlin.
Be sure and follow the "original" format and see to it that
the entries are in UPPER CASE.
The program provides an "in memory" search. If you know the
EXACT Prefix entry, then that entry made in Item One of the
Search Menu will provide you with the Bearing from the QTH
which you initialized. If you are not sure of the Prefix,
then items 2 and/or 3 will list them for you .. rapidly, as
the array is in memory. Having located the Prefix by use of
items 2 or 3, you may then enter it under item #1 and your
bearing will appear. Please note, when using items 2 and 3
above, that partial entries are required. If you were looking
for Hungary you would enter, depending upon the menu item,
either an "H" or a part of the word such as "Hunga". This is
a requirement of the "search routines".
If you choose the HardCopy Printout of all the listed QTH's
you may choose any "base" location. I have had great luck
in receiving QSL cards after sending a copy of the listing to
the desired station. Simply print a copy using his QTH as the
originator.
Feel free to use this program as you wish, there is no charge.
