Qmodem SST 3.1
Notes, changes, and things you should know before starting.
* First, if you are installing this on a Hard Disk:
* Copy this disk into the subdirectory where QMODEM will reside.
We recommend the use of \QMODEM off of the ROOT directory.
(Any subdirectory will do however).
If you are installing this for a two-floppy drive system:
* Copy this disk to another floppy and store this disk away as
your MASTER copy! Do NOT install on this disk! Then, follow
the directions found on the second disk (2 of 3) in the file
README.INS.
* There are no changes to the CNF, WND, FON or KEY files. If you are
upgrading from Qmodem SST 3.0, this is going to be painless! Just
copy the new files in place and run Qinstall. Make sure you go
through every page in Qinstall as some things have been added, some
have been changed and others dropped.
* If you ARE upgrading from a version previous to 2.0, you will have
to delete your CNF and start over. If you are upgrading from 2.0 -
2.3, you can run the CONV-CNF.COM program (included) to save some
work. There is no conversion program for the FON file, except as
posted on the Forbin Project BBS (319) 233-6157 (1200/2400/9600
with Courier HST's online).
* Qmodem now has Ymodem Batch as an internal protocol so you do not
need DSZ to do it. This also means if you had it defined as an
external protocol, you should remove it as it will not no longer
function (with the letter B anyway).
* The Revise Entry function of the Alt-D Phone Book is different than
the DOC file. There is now a full screen editor in there which is
very easy to use. Follow the directions in the bottom window and
Status Line and you can't go wrong.
* The Function Key Edit is also Full Screen and different than the
DOC file. This too is easy to use and all edit keys are shown on
the screen.
* When in either VT100 or TVI925 emulation modes, the backscroll is
disabled. This is for two reasons: 1. emulations do not look good
when scrolled back, and 2. the arrow keys now send the correct
codes to the host for cursor movement. This only works with the
four arrow keys on the keypad! If you want the full complement of
codes for the keypad, refer to the VT100KEY.DOC and VT100.KEY files
included.
We listened to a lot of suggestions and made a log of subtle changes in
3.1 to make it easier to use. Keep on making suggestions!
