EDITING MULTIPLE FILES
To edit more than one file at a time, all you have to do is move the
cursor to the Command Line and type EDIT followed by the name and path
specification of the file you want to edit. Optionally at the end of
this command, you may enter a line number and the number of lines you
want to edit. For example, let's edit the eleven lines 10 through 20
of this file by going to the Command Line and typing the command:
edit a:\pct_help\mult_fil.hlp 10 11
(Obviously if you have moved these HELP panels to another location you
will have to adjust the path accordingly.)
Now press the Enter key. You are now in a new copy of the original
file. Press Shift F1 a few times till you get back to the original
HELP file.
Press the PgDn Key
MULTIPLE FILES (Continued)
As you saw, Shift F1 moved you from file to file and the message on
the Message Line told you which file (by number) you are currently in.
Ctrl F1 will move you from file to file in the reverse direction.
This feature of PC-TYPE+ is extremely powerful, for you can mark areas
in one file, and copy or move them to other files at will. As long as
you have sufficient memory, you can edit up to 10 files
simultaneously.
When you QUIT or SAVE one file, you will return to the adjacent
remaining file.
If you have a number of files active at once and you want to get back
to DOS, press the Ctrl Break key and answer Y to the question "Are you
Sure?"
Press the PgDn Key
MULTIPLE FILES (Continued)
When you request to edit a new file, PC-TYPE+ will check the file
specification you provided in the edit command against the files which
are currently active within PC-TYPE+. If an EXACT match is found, you
will be notified that that file is already active, and asked if you
really want to edit another copy of it. If you do, press Y, if not,
press N.
Try this out by moving to the Command Line and typing edit followed by
the exact string of characters which appears in the current file
identification box at the top of the PC-TYPE+ screen. Then press N.
Since you have an extra file active now, try moving and copying data
from one file to another.
Press F4 to Return to the HELP Menu
