This paragraph and the next one are from a separate file that has been
"merged" in with the text of this file (MM.2 or MM.3 depending on
which one you are working with). In file MM.2 this paragraph was
brought in only for PC-File's TEST database records which matched with
the CITY field "Redmond". In other words, the .IF statement checked
for only those records with Redmond in the CITY field. All other
records in that database were rejected. For the file MM.3, it was
done differently . . . with the .INCLUDE command. In that case,
the file INCLUDE.1 was brought into each letter printed.
A significant point here is that both the .IF and .INCLUDE commands
are powerful in their own ways. The .IF command allows you to include
files only under certain conditions (i.e., a match on strings of text
or data in your PC-File database. The .INCLUDE command is especially
useful for something called a "master print file". That means several
files for many sections of a document or even book chapters can be
included in one file, which helps organize the printing process.
