THE ENTER KEY TOGGLE
By holding down the Alt key and pressing the 'X' key, you may toggle
between the three different Enter key states. Try it and press 'X' at
least three times while looking on the Command Line just to the left
of the Row number.
Notice that when you toggle this switch, an 'X', an 'x', or nothing
will be displayed on the Command Line. Now toggle some more until
neither the 'X' nor the 'x' are visible. In this state, when the
cursor is in the text area, whenever you press Enter, the cursor will
move to the left margin of the next line. (If you are on the bottom
of the current screen, the screen will scroll up one line.)
This is the simplest Enter Key mode and probably the least used.
Move the cursor to the top of the page and press Enter a few times.
Press the PgDn Key
Now press AltX once to get the 'X' to appear on the Command Line.
This is the most common mode for the Enter key when the cursor is in
the text area.
Move the cursor anywhere on this line and press the Enter key.
As you can see, in this mode, not only does the cursor move to the
left margin, but it also moves down to a new empty line which is
inserted just below the line the cursor was previously on.
Press AltX once more so an 'x' appears on the Command Line. Move the
cursor anywhere on this line and press the Enter key again. And press
Enter again. In this mode, the cursor will move under the leftmost
character on the line it leaves (unless it is outside the left
margin). If the line is blank, the cursor will move to the left
margin. A new line is inserted as well.
Press the PgDn Key
Press AltX twice again to get back to the 'X' mode.
You may make any of these Enter key toggle settings permanent by:
(1) Selecting the Toggle setting you desire in the MODIFY DEFAULTS
panel.
(2) Saving ALL defaults to PC-TYPE+ itself. (See DFLTS_SV)
Press the PgDn Key
SETTING THE ENTER KEY TOGGLE IN THE MODIFY DEFAULTS PANEL
By pressing F8 and then F2 you will be in the MODIFY DEFAULTS panel.
Using the TAB key, move the selection bar the the field named
Toggle Settings
and press the F10 key. By pressing the TAB key again, move the
selection bar in the Toggle Settings panel until it is on the (AltX)
line of options. Press the up or down arrow keys three times to see
the selections.
