Dear Automenu User:
Thank you for your interest in Automenu. This diskette contains all the files
relating to this version. Instructions for printing the on-line documentation
are outlined below. Many, many hours of hard work have gone into this latest
version of AUTOMENU, in release since 1983. AUTOMENU was the first Software
Management System for IBM- PC and Compatibles, and it is still the best!
AUTOMENU is shareware - that means you are encouraged to try it and make
copies for your friends. If you decide to use the program on a continuing
basis, we ask that you register it with us in order that we may continue to
provide upgrades, improvements and technical support. If you did not receive a
printed manual and/or warranty card with this copy of AUTOMENU, we want you to
know that registered users benefit from extended expert technical support, 24
hour/7 day bulletin board access, professionally bound and printed
documentation, and notice of updates. You'll feel good about supporting
the free enterprise system!
Best Regards,
Marshall W. Magee

To Install AUTOMENU on your fixed disk, place the distribution diskette in
Drive A: and make the fixed disk the default by typing "C:" and pressing
Return. Then type:
C>A:INSTALL
and press Return. More instructions are detailed within the documentation. We
recommend you read it. If you are UPGRADING from a previous version of
AUTOMENU, please read Section 2-3 of the AUTOMENU.DOC file on this disk.
To print the documentation file to printer, first align the printer to top of
form. Log to the A: Drive by typing "A:" and Return. Then enter the DOS
command:
A>PRINTDOC
The documentation is 80 pages long, so have enough paper and time available!
And thank you for using AUTOMENU. Please feel free to pass along a copy to a
friend and if they find it useful, ask them to register it! Support shareware
and the Free Enterprise System!
[If you have downloaded AUTOMENU, the files may currently be in a compressed
format. Make sure to un-compress them before you attempt to use them. You must
place the files that came with AUTOMENU on another diskette to be able to run
the Install Facility described in the main documentation file - AUTOMENU.DOC.]
What's new with Automenu Version 4.5?
-------------------------------------
Easier and more flexible installation procedure
Fully networkable operation
Environment variables are now fully supported in Menu Definition Files.
EX:
%%User_name% Main Menu
*Directory of drive %Home_Drive%
+DIR %Home_Drive%
+PAUSE
+AUTO
#End of MDF with environment variables in it.
Full VGA and IBM PS/2 mouse support
Accepts additional command line options:
AUTO MenuFile.MDF/B will use the "MenuFile" and Blank the screen.
AUTO /B will use the default menu file and Blank the screen.
AUTO /2 will use the default menu file and display menu page TWO
AUTO Myfile.MDF/26 will use "Myfile" and run selection SIX on menu
page number TWO (/26).
The "/B" command line option forces the screen to blank.
The "/xy" option runs selection y from menu page number x.
The command can also be "/x", if the user want to display a
specific page x.
Numeric keypad can be toggled for numeric or cursor control
Uses DOS services instead of BIOS for increased compatibility and fully
redirectable input. Automenu will except keystokes from a file.
In the example below KEYS.INP would contain keys you would want
Automenu to interpret.
EX: AUTOMENU <KEYS.INP
AUTOMAKE menu editor accepts filename to be edited on the DOS command
line, runs 3-5 times faster, and displays the line number
being edited at the top of the screen
AUTOCUST cutomization utility now supports environment variables in the file
specifications for default temporary batch file name and default
Menu Definition File names.
Timed execution of commands that also use a password will execute properly.
This allows a menu selection to be protected with a password, but
will still execute the menu selection without user intervention at
the time specified.
