IMPORTING FROM PC-FILE
If you are a PC-FILE user, you will be happy to know that you can read
PC-FILE data records into PC-TYPE+. You can easily select which
record you want to "import" and which fields of that record.
To import a PC-FILE record, you merely press F8, F1, and then follow
the directions. The path to the particular PC-FILE database as well
as your most frequently used database file can be permanently stored
inside PC-TYPE+ so you will not have to answer the same questions over
and over.
To make these defaults permanent, you must go to the MODIFY DEFAULTS
panel by pressing F8, F2, move the Option Selection Bar to the field
labelled "PC-FILE Databases", and press F10. You would then answer
the questions and save the defaults. (See the HELP file DFLTS_SV.)
Press the PgDn Key
SAMPLE IMPORT SESSION
A small, sample PC-FILE database should still be located on the same
directory with all the HELP files. It is called "TEST".
When you press F8, F1, you will be asked for the path to the PC-FILE
data. Enter the same path you entered to get to these HELP files.
You will then be asked to select the appropriate PC-FILE database. If
there were more than one you would move the File Selection Bar to the
database of your choice by pressing the TAB key.
For our sample session, you will select the file named "TEST" and
press the F10 key. Once the F10 key is pressed, the field names for
selected database will be displayed on your screen, each followed by
a question mark as shown on the next screen.
Press the PgDn Key

Using the Tab key, you move from field to field and enter the data you
want to find. For example, if you entered "Conan" after Name_, you
would find all the "Conan"s in the database. If you also added
"Redmond" after City, you would only find those "Conan"s in Redmond.
If you blank out a field, (remove the "?"), then that field will not
be moved into your text.
Press the PgDn Key
SAMPLE SESSION (Continued)
After you have entered your data, just press the F10 key and you will
see the first matched record. If this is the record you want, then
press the "Y" key. If it is not, press the "N" key and the next
record will be found.
If you press "Y", then all the non-blank fields in the matching
record will be moved into your text. If you press "K" instead, then
you will move in ALL the fields, including the blanked-out fields.
Esc will return you to your editing session at any time.
Try to import a record. Move the cursor to the asterisk below and
then:
Press F8, F1, select TEST on the HELP path, and find the record
with the CITY field equal to Redmond.
Look at imported data below - then press F4 to Return to HELP
