All 6 types of moves are heavily used depending upon the situation.
However, AltM with AltL blocking is probably the most common.
When an area is moved, the original marked area is deleted. With
CtrlM with CtrlB marking, (overlay move), the original marked area
is blanked out instead of being deleted to preserve column integrity.
We will give an example of each type of move below. Be sure to follow
the instructions for the examples closely.
Press the PgDn Key
STANDARD PARAGRAPH MOVE (AltL AltL AltM)
Move the cursor to THIS line and press AltL.
Then move the cursor to THIS line and press AltL again.
Now move the cursor HERE and press AltM.
That's all there is to moving lines and paragraphs.
STANDARD SENTENCE MOVE (CtrlL CtrlL AltM)
Move the cursor to the 'T' at the beginning of the next sentence and
press CtrlL. This is the sentence you will be moving to a new
location. Now move the cursor to the '.' at the end of the same
sentence and press CtrlL again. Finally, move the cursor to the
asterisk below, and press AltM. You have just moved a sentence.

Press the PgDn Key
COLUMN MOVE (CtrlB CtrlB AltM)
1111111111* 2222222222 3333333333$ 444444444
1111111111 2222222222 3333333333 444444444
1111111111 2222222222 3333333333 444444444
1111111111 222222222* 3333333333 444444444
Move the cursor to each asterisk above and press CtrlB. Now move the
cursor to the "$" and press AltM. You have just made a column move.
See if you can replace the column to where it was initially.
When you perform this type of move, you may move the block wherever
you wish - up, down, etc. It is particularly handy if you want to
put two columns of text per page. Simply type the document in a
narrow column, open up your margins, and then cut and paste.
Press the PgDn Key
PARAGRAPH INSERT (AltL AltL CtrlM)
Move the cursor to THIS line and press AltL.
Then move the cursor to THIS line and press AltL again.
Now move the cursor to the 'x' (x) and press CtrlM.
You have now moved the marked paragraph to the middle of a line which
has been split at the cursor. A simple reformat will close the gaps.
Press CtrlR and then press any key just to see it happen.
Press the PgDn Key
SENTENCE INSERT (CtrlL CtrlL CtrlM)
Move the cursor to the 'M' at the beginning of this line and press
CtrlL. Now move the cursor to the period at the left and press CtrlL
again.
Now move the cursor to the 'x' (x) and press CtrlM.
You have now moved the marked sentence to the middle of a line which
has been split at the cursor. A simple reformat will close the gaps.
Press CtrlR to see the reformat take place.
Press the PgDn Key
Column (or Block) Overlay (CtrlB CtrlB CtrlM)
Move the cursor to the upper left corner of the box below and press
CtrlB. Now move the cursor to the lower right corner of the box below
and press CtrlB again. Now move the cursor to the 'X' inside the box
and press CtrlM.
┌─────────────┐ As you can see, CtrlM with blocked
│ │ marking produces a straightforward
│ X │ overlay result. With this type of
│ │ move, columns are not shifted
└─────────────┘ around when the move is completed.
