  1. Directions for using the Quick View Desk Accessory by Dan Crevier

  3. Quick View is a simple desk accessory that can be used for viewing files in
  4. either text or hex.  Install it as you would install any other desk accessory.
  5. When you select the Quick View desk accessory, it will prompt you for a file
  6. name, as well as giving you some other options.  You can view the file in
  7. text mode or in hex mode.  If you select smart, it will view the file in text
  8. mode if the file type is TEXT, and in hex mode if it isn't.  You can also
  9. choose which fork of the file you want to view.  If you choose smart, it will
  10. view the data fork if there is one, or the resource for if there isn't.  After
  11. you select the file, a window will be opened showing the contents of the file.
  12. The scroll bar can be used to move through the file, or the following key
  13. board equivalents:

  15. [Space Bar], [PgDn] - Scroll down a page
  16. [B], [PgUp] - Scroll up a page
  17. [Down arrow] - Scroll down a line
  18. [Up arrow] - Scroll up a line
  19. [Q] - quit
  20. [Home] - go to the beginning of the file
  21. [End] - go to the end of the file

  23. That's it!  It is very simple to use, but I find it useful.  You can use it
  24. to view files from Word or other word processors, without having to load the
  25. applications.  There are some random control characters in the file, but the
  26. text is still readable.
