This program is intended for tracking the standings in a college basketball
tournament. This program is not intended to be used for wagering. It is
the users responsibility to prevent accidental loss of data by maintaining
separate backups of the working directory. This software is provided "as
is," with no implied or expressed warranties.
Program Description
College Basketball Tourney is a software program this is designed to help
the office pool keeper automate the record keeping that is involved with a
college basketball tournament. It is a shareware program, which means it
is NOT freeware, nor public domain. This unregistered version is fully
functional, but can only handle up to five players in the tournament pool.
The registered version can handle an unlimited amount of players.
Registration
This is a shareware program. If after evaluating the software you decide
you like it and want to use it, register by filling out the registration
form at the end of this manual. After registering, you will receive the
latest version of College Basketball Tourney on floppy diskette. You will
also receive notification of any major updates to College Basketball
Tourney. All registered users will also receive full technical support.

To run College Basketball Tourney, the following minimum software
requirements are required ...

* PC / MS DOS version 2.0 or later
* VGA monitor and card

Installation
The following is a list of files included with the shareware version of

To install College Basketball Tourney, copy the above files onto a working
diskette, or if you have a hard drive, create a new directory and copy the
files to that directory (working directory). To execute College Basketball
Tourney, change to the working directory containing CBT.EXE, enter CBT and
press <enter>.
Getting Around College Basketball Tourney
Use of a mouse is suggested. To get around College Basketball Tourney,
click the mouse on the desired button. If you are not using a mouse, press
<ALT>-<underscored_letter> of desired button. To close a window, except
Tourney Main Window, click the close button in the upper left hand corner
of the title bar of the window, or press <F3>. To refresh the screen,
press <F5>. To move a window, click and hold the title bar, move window,
then unclick. To shrink a window, except the Tourney Main Window, click
the shrink button in the upper right hand corner of the title bar of the
window. To unshrink a window, click the unshrink button in the upper right
hand corner of the title bar of the window. <TAB> can also be pressed to
get from field to field/button to button in a window. Multiple windows can
be on the screen at the same time. To make a window active, just click
anywhere on that window. This brings the clicked on window to the top of
the screen. The best way to learn how to get around College Basketball
Tourney is to experiment and have fun.
Emergency Exit
In case the boss is coming, at any place in College Basketball Tourney,
press <CTRL>-<C> to exit immediately to DOS. This saved many people from
getting caught running this program.
Tourney Main Window
This is the main window of College Basketball Tourney. It has the
following capabilities ...
Setup Teams and Pool ... (<ALT>-<S>) choosing this will bring
up the Tourney Setup Window. From this window, pool teams
and players are setup..
Make Pool Picks ... (<ALT>-<P>) choosing this will bring up
the Tourney Picks Window. From this window, a division
is chosen and a players picks are made.
Update Winners ... (<ALT>-<W>) choosing this will bring up
the Tourney Winners Window. From this window, a division is
chosen and the winning college basketball teams are updated.
Compute Pool Standing ... (<ALT>-<T>) choosing this will print
out a list of all players and their current standings.
Print Instructions ... (<ALT>-<I>) choosing this will print out
this manual.
Exit to DOS ... (<ALT>-<X>) choosing this will exit College
Basketball Tourney and return to DOS.
Tourney Setup Window
This is the setup window of College Basketball Tourney. It has the
following capabilities ...
Pool Player Initials ... (<ALT>-<I>) choosing this will bring
up the College Tourney Initials Entry Window. From this
window, all players initials are entered and deleted.
Team Trees ... (<ALT>-<T>) choosing this will bring up the
College Tourney Team Entry Window. From this window, all
teams in the tournament are entered.
College Tourney Initials Entry Window
This is the initials entry window of College Basketball Tourney. To get a
list of all valid initials, click on Compute Pool Standings in the Tourney
Main Window. This window has the following capabilities ...
Initials ... this field is where the players initials are
entered. All players initials must be three characters
long. Note: Do not use $$$ as initials. These are
required by College Basketball Tourney.
Add ... (<ALT>-<A>) choosing this will add the initials in the
initials field as valid initials. If the initials already
exist, College Basketball Tourney will give three beeps.
Delete ... (<ALT>-<D>) choosing this will delete the initials in
the initials field as valid initials. If the initials do
not exist, College Basketball Tourney will give three beeps.
College Tourney Team Entry Window
This is the college team name entry window of College Basketball Tourney.
The numbers to the left of this screen do not represent the seed of the
teams. This window has the following capabilities ...
Save ... (<ALT>-<S>) choosing this saves all entered teams in
the four divisions.
Tourney Picks/Winners Window
This is the picks/winners window of College Basketball Tourney. It has the
following capabilities ...
East ... (<ALT>-<E>) choosing this will bring up the College
Tourney East Picks/Winners window. From this window, a
players initials are entered and the corresponding picks are
then made, modified, printed, and saved.
West ... (<ALT>-<W>) choosing this will bring up the College
Tourney West Picks/Winners window. From this window, a
players initials are entered and the corresponding picks are
then made, modified, printed, and saved.
North ... (<ALT>-<N>) choosing this will bring up the College
Tourney North Picks/Winners window. From this window, a
players initials are entered and the corresponding picks are
then made, modified, printed, and saved.
South ... (<ALT>-<S>) choosing this will bring up the College
Tourney South Picks/Winners window. From this window, a
players initials are entered and the corresponding picks are
then made, modified, printed, and saved.
Last Four ... (<ALT>-<L>) choosing this will bring up the College
Tourney Last Four Picks/Winners window. From this window, a
players initials are entered and the corresponding picks are
then made, modified, printed, and saved.
College Tourney East/West/North/South/Last Four Picks Window
This is the window of College Basketball Tourney where a players picks are
actually made and saved. To make a pick and advance a team, just click on
the desired team. The team will then show up in the button to the left or
right, depending on which half of the screen the buttons are. Continue
until all picks are made. This window has the following capabilities ...
Initials ... this is where a persons initials are entered. They
must be three characters. They also must already have been
entered as valid initials in the College Tourney Initials
Entry Window. If invalid initials are entered in this field
and an Update or Save is attempted, College Basketball
Tourney will give three beeps.
Update ... (<ALT>-<U>) choosing this will update all buttons with
the picks of the players initials entered in the Initials
field.
Save ... (<ALT>-<S>) choosing this will save the picks on the
screen for the players initials entered in the Initials
field.
Print ... (<ALT>-<P>) choosing this will print the picks being
displayed on the screen.
Clear ... (<ALT>-<P>) choosing this will clear all picks from
the screen.
Winner ... this field is updated with the chosen winner of the
conference.
Winnings ... this field is updated with the total winning of the
player whose initials are in the Initials field. Points are
given as follows ...
First Round ... 1 pt (team advances to last 32)
Second Round ... 2 pts (team advances to last 16)
Third Round ... 3 pts (team advances to last 8)
Fourth Round ... 4 pts (team advances to last 4)
Fifth Round ... 5 pts (team advances to last 2)
Sixth Round ... 6 pts (team wins tournament)
College Tourney East/West/North/South/Last Four Winners Window
This is the window of College Basketball Tourney where game results are
updated and saved. To advance a team, just click on the desired team. The
team will then show up in the button to the left or right, depending on
which half of the screen the buttons are. Continue until all desired
updates are made. This window has the following capabilities ...
Save ... (<ALT>-<S>) choosing this will save the teams on the
screen for the players initials entered in the Initials
field.
Print ... (<ALT>-<P>) choosing this will print the teams being
displayed on the screen.
Clear ... (<ALT>-<P>) choosing this will clear all teams from
the screen.
Winner ... this field is updated with the winner of the
conference.

Suggested Step to Follow When Setting Up Your Pool
The following steps in setting up your office pool are suggested ...
1. From the College Tourney Initials Entry Window, enter in all
participants initials.
2. From the College Tourney Team Entry Window, enter in all
participating teams.
3. From the Picks Window, enter in a participants initials, make
the corresponding picks, and save the picks.
4. Print out a copy of the picks for the participant.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as needed until all participants are
entered.
6. Update team progress as needed in the Winners Window.
7. Print out standings and distribute as needed.
Agreement Terms
1. You may not modify the program in any way, shape or form by
any means real or not for whatever reason.
2. You may redistribute the shareware version as long as all
files are included.
3. You may NOT redistribute a registered copy to other users
without prior written consent by the author.
4. Technical support will be provided to registered users.
5. Completion of the registration form signifies that you
agree to all licensing and registration terms contained
therein.
