WAS CREATED BY JOHN D'INDIA
This game may be freely distributed.. etc.. It is NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN!!
Our distribution policy is simple.. This game may be given away at no cost,
but it cannot be sold. If you're a company or government agency then you've
got to write us a letter before you can distribute this product. We have no
problem with this program being found on Free BBSs, Internet, Compuserve,
America Online, etc... We DO have a problem with seeing this game in a
shareware mag. If you write us, then MAYBE we can change our minds about
your one specific company. We will probably change our minds alot faster
when you send us your phamplets (or whatever you give out or do for
advertising) and what you plan to do with our game.
There are a few neat features- ie..
- You may find that you go through walls..
Hey nobody's perfect.
- Some VGA's may have difficulty changing colors,
It is NOT your VGA monitor's fault, it is my routine,
which I have fixed, but am unable to include in this
ancient code because the old routine worked backwards.
So if you are seeing flames in blue and brown, then
you know what the problem is.
- This program only works on a VGA monitor, sorry to all you
other people, but MOST people have VGA monitors by now.
- This program will freeze if there are missing files.
It will not let you know, nor will it in any way check for
errors in file input/output. If the screen stays black
for a long time simply reboot, and then look around and see
if you deleted a file or something..
_ This program also doesn't check file IO when you enter a funny
name. Therefore try to keep names simple, otherwise you may
experience DOS with no key board response
{meaning you have to reset}.
------NOTES-------
HELP?*@#% - PRESS F1 FOR HELP INSIDE THE GAME!!
HIGH SCORES - The game should show HIGH SCORES after the title screen.
When you beat an entire mode, you will be entered in
the high score list. For example, Joe types in Loser
at enter name screen, he then proceeds to play EASY mode,
after several hours he finally wins easy mode, his
score is then entered with the name (LOSER), the
mode (EASY), and Joe's score (120). Hopefully you
can play better than Joe.
DISPLAY - The display at the top is very simple.
From left to right
NUMBER OF MEN
TIME REMAINING
NUMBER OF POINTS
FUEL REMAINING
------KEYS------
UP ARROW - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> JUMP
SPACE - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> JUMP
RIGHT ARROW - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> JUMP OR WALK RIGHT
LEFT ARROW - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> JUMP OR WALK LEFT
Z - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> ZIPPPP!!!!
X - MAKES <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> USE HIS JET PACK
P - PAUSES THE ACTION..
A - ABORTS <<<=ZiPMAN=>>> (FOR WHEN YOU STICK IN WALLS ETC..)
<ESC> - QUITS PRESENT GAME OR QUITS GAME
F1 - BRINGS UP HELP SCREEN!!
C - CLEARS HIGH SCORES WHEN PRESSED AT HIGH SCORE SCREEN
{THIS ONLY WORKS AT MAIN SCORE SCREEN... SORRY}
*** HINTS ***
My first hint is that this game is not perfect, and you may see lots
of things that look really funny. Next hint is simple, the top of the
screen is effectively unlimited, although the sprite will only appear to go
so high. Therefore when you press jet pack against the cieling, you will
appear to stick there for a LLOONNGG time. The third thing is a small
trick, when you are on the top of the screen and there are even, short,
spaced bricks, walk to the edge of one brick, hold up, and then hold
sideways. Your man will appear to skip along all the bricks. Note that
this only works when you are on the top of the screen. Also note that
when jet pack is pressed with up key held you will go up really fast,
but I am pretty sure that pressing sideways will ruin this effect.
If too many keys are pressed at once, some keys simply won't work.
For example, when you press right, up, and left the jet pack probably
won't work {or at least don't count on it}. My last tip {I think}
is that you should try and get most of the gems, mainly because every
2000 points is another extra man. I can't think of any other tips,
other than simply to practice, and be aware of which things do what..
ah.. just remembered. Due to the fact that U can't see into the next room
until you go there, I have made a standard. If there is a square of brick
sticking out on one screen, there will {should} be at least a square of
brick sticking out on the other. In other words, if you are standing
at the edge of the screen on a brick, and you walk into the next room,
you are guaranteed to be safe. This doesn't apply if you jump into
the next room, because there are sometimes fires which will get ya.
Next hint, fire burns up, therefore one square above a fire is NOT safe.
Water on other hand must be touched, so you are safe until you fall in it.
Yet another little quirk, you should be safe jumping from below to
underneath water {it'll act as a brick}, UNLESS you press jetpack!
EXAMPLE - Joe Smiley is standing on a brick, two squares above him is a
square of water. Joe Smiley jumps, he bumps his head on the bottom of
the water and he's safe {if he uses his jet pack he's NOT safe}.
Springs make you fly upwards, but they only are really effective if you
press and hold up while jumping on one. As far as the name entering
business, it's pretty simple. The game simply creates a file with the
extension .MAN. Therefore if Joe Smiley boots up ZIPMAN2, types in LOSER
at the prompt, a file will be created called "LOSER.MAN". If Joe Smiley
passes a level then LOSER will then be located at that level. If Joe
Smiley decides that he wants to play loser from the begining again, then
he must goto DOS, or WINDOWS, or whatever and delete "LOSER.MAN".
Note: The game will crash if you enter strange or even semi-strange keys
for character names. Try to use only letters if you're not sure ok?
DON'T use chars like space, greater/less than signs.. The reason is
simple, files with these names CANNOT be created, and I don't have any
error checking for it. A note for those who have patience, if you wait
too long and the time runs out, it will fade out and you will find
yourself back at the start of the level with one less man and your time
renewed. One last note to those having trouble staying on the moving
bricks. The moving bricks WILL carry you with them, BUT it is not easy to
do, THEREFORE my suggestion for those always using jet pack over the
moving bricks - HOLD JUMP, AND FOLLOW THE BRICK {IT IS EASY WITH PRACTICE}.
You MUST get the key to pass a level. If you don't, you simply won't be
able to get through the door. Up until crazy level, the key should be real
simple and easy to get.
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY ->
EASY - Simple levels for the begginer, but watch out sometimes
they can be pretty hard.
MEDIUM - Levels for anyone who played the last version and passed
the first level.
HARD - Levels for anyone who beat the last version. These
are a real challenge. This is the "last" level.
CRAZY - A BIG challenge. If you can play well try them. If you
can beat hard mode, then you shouldn't have too much
trouble, BUT I will warn you to be patient on these
levels. THERE are lots of on/off fires that you may
not see at first, so wait and watch the screen for a
bit before you rush through. Please note that this is
not the last level. This is simply the crazy level.
Hard mode is the last level.
SCORING- scoring in ZIPMAN 2 is fairly simple...
scores will only be checked against the high scores when you beat
an entire mode.
when you pass a level you get..
TIME * FIVE POINTS
when you beat a mode you get..
LIFE * 500
FUEL * 2
when you get a gem
GREEN GEM - 50
BLUE GEM - 100
WHITE GEM - 500
FIRE GEM - 1000
