Subject: ADE 970109 snapshot now available
To: ADE announcements list <ade-announce@ninemoons.com>
Reply-To: fnf@ninemoons.com
From: fnf@ninemoons.com
The 970109 snapshot is now available on ftp.ninemoons.com in
pub/ade/current.
I have to apologize for this snapshot taking so long. There was a lot of
changes in critical packages like gcc and ixemul that necessitated many
complete ADE rebuilts. Since each multistage rebuild takes several days,
much of the last couple months was spent simply recompiling everything. I
guess it's getting close to the time when I need to replace the 40Mhz
WarpEngine on my build machine with a good 060 card.
The major changes since the last snapshot, as recorded in the master ADE
ChangeLog file, can be found in pub/ade/current/Changes. These are by no
means all the changes that were made, just the most significant ones. Most
minor changes are recorded in the ChangeLog file for each package, if they
are recorded at all.
It is significant to note that the 961012 snapshot is about 230 Mb and the
970109 snapshot is about 380 Mb. This growth rate will probably continue
for the next snapshot, since I expect many new X related packages to be
included. The current snapshot only includes the base X distribution, the
AfterStep window manager, and a few other X packages.
Please try to test as many things from this snapshot as possible and report
any problems during the next week. I will be working quite hard over the
next 2-3 weeks to complete the next ADE CD, so it is very important that
major problems (if any) in this snapshot get fixed before that release.
I'd like again to thank everyone that made significant contributions to
the ADE since the last snapshot.
-Fred

Just a quick note. I will be out of the office until Sunday
afternoon, and may not have any access to email. If any urgent ADE
problems come up, like mail loops or something, please contact Richard
Fish for help (rjf@ninemoons.com).
