  1. PC ReadMe File - LAUNCH, No. 3  
  2.   
  3. Please read the LAUNCH booklet first, for information on how to install and
  4. use LAUNCH. This ReadMe file contains tips and late breaking information
  5. about LAUNCH that is not included in the booklet.  
  6.   
  7. WINDOWS95 USERS
  8. ---------------
  9.  
  10. JUMPY VIDEO - If you are experiencing jumpy QuickTime video with your
  11. Windows95 system, try the following fix:
  12.  
  13. Edit the qtw.ini file residing in your Windows directory.
  14.  
  15.     - Add into the [video] section the following line:
  16.  
  17.       optimize=driver
  18.  
  19.     - Save this file and then try reloading LAUNCH
  20.

  24. REQUIREMENTS  
  25. -------------  
  26.   
  27. Be sure your system has at least:  
  28.   
  29.     * 8 MB of Ram  
  30.   
  31.     * 486 processor  
  32.   
  33.     * 2x CD-ROM drive  
  34.   
  35.     * Windows 3.1 or Windows 95  
  36.   
  37.     * 16-bit sound card preferably  
  38.   
  39.     * Quicktime 2.0.3 drivers  
  40.   
  41.   
  42. INSTALLING QUICKTIME(TM)  
  43. ------------------------  
  44.   
  45. The included version of QuickTime(TM) for Windows is 2.0.3  
  46.   
  47. When installing QuickTime(TM), the installer program may ask you if you 
  48. want to remove old versions of QuickTime. Go ahead and have the
  49. installer delete these old versions. You must do this for the installation  
  50. to succeed.  
  51.   
  52. In order to run the Quicktime installer, follow these directions:  
  53.   
  54.     * Exit Windows  
  55.     * Change to the QTW20 subdirectory  
  56.     * Run the file "setup.exe"  
  57.     * Follow all instructions  
  58.   
  59. Note: A Quicktime for Windows program group will be created on your 
  60. Windows desktop.  The installer will place several files into this group.
  61. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RUN ANY OF THESE FILES IN ORDER TO ACCESS LAUNCH.
  62. These icons are just there as part of the Quicktime installation program.  
  63.   
  64.   
  65. 8 AND 16 BIT COLOR  
  66. ------------------  
  67.   
  68. ************ There are 2 different versions ************  
  69. ************of LAUNCH, 8 bit and 16 bit color. ************  
  70.   
  71. You need to run the version that is appropriate for your system 
  72. configuration.  
  73.   
  74. The 8 bit version is needed if your system display is running at 256 
  75. colors. The 16 bit version is needed if you are running 65K colors (65536). 
  76. The 2 versions need to be run from 2 different files:  
  77.   
  78. * Run LAUNCH.EXE for 8 bit color.  
  79. * Run LAUNCH16.EXE for 16 bit color.  
  80.   
  81. If you don't know what color depth your monitor is set, you can check 
  82. using Windows Setup, located in the Main program group in Windows(look under
  83. the DISPLAY option.) From there, you can set your system to one of the
  84. following resolutions and color depths:
  85.   
  86. * 640x480x256 (8 bit, 256 colors)  
  87. * 640x480x64K (16 bit, 64K colors)  
  88.   
  89. Please note that if for some reason you run the wrong version of LAUNCH, 
  90. you may get an error message from Windows. Please set the correct color
  91. depth or try running the other version of LAUNCH but only after RESTARTING
  92. Windows to avoid any possible crashes.

  94. OTHER PERFORMANCE ISSUES  
  95. --------------------------

  97. If you have any network software running, you should turn it off, as it 
  98. will slow down performance of LAUNCH.

  101. INSTALLATION OF GAMES
  102. -------------------------
  103.  
  104.      I. MECHWARRIOR 2
  105.     To install the MECHWARRIOR Demo, follow these instructions:
  106.  
  107.     1.  Quit to DOS.
  108.         2.  Change to the MechWarrior directory on your CDROM drive 
  109.             (e.g. cd d:\MWARRIOR)
  110.     3.  Run "install" - Make sure your hard drive has at
  111.         least 22MB free for this program.
  112.     4.  Follow on-screen instructions during installation.
  113.     
  114.  
  115.     If you have problems with any part of the MechWarrior 2 
  116.     installation, please read the MW2INFO.TXT with its 
  117.     subdirectory for helpful tips and suggestions.

  119.     II. FX FIGHTER Demo
  120.  
  121.     To install the FX FIGHTER Demo, follow these instructions:
  122.  
  123.     1.  Quit to DOS.
  124.     2.  Change to the FX FIGHTER directory on your CDROM drive 
  125.             (e.g. cd d:\FXDEMO)
  126.     3.  Run "install" - Make sure your hard drive has at
  127.         least 6MB free for this program.
  128.     4.  Follow on-screen instructions during installation.

  130.     If you have problems with any part of the FX FIGHTER DEMO 
  131.     installation, please read the README.TXT with its 
  132.     subdirectory for helpful tips and suggestions.

  134. BUGS AND OTHER PROBLEMS  
  135. -------------------------  
  136.   
  137. We have worked really hard to make LAUNCH bug-free and easy to use. But 
  138. there may still be some problems that you will encounter. If you are having
  139. problems, first check to see that your computer is set up properly and 
  140. review some of the suggestions in this README file.
  141.   
  142. If you are convinced that everything is OK with your computer, you may have
  143. discovered a bug or design problem. If so, we'd like to hear about it.

  160. Describe the problem in as much detail as you can. Describe where and 
  161. how it happened. Include all the details about your computer too
  162. (e.g. 486 66DX2 GATEWAY Computer Model xxx, a display card, sound  
  163. card, DOS version, Windows version). There are so many different 
  164. combinations of equipment and software, that it's difficult to know what is
  165. going on without all the information describing a system. Your bug report
  166. will help make future issues better.
