Dear Bob,
In club disk two you asked about the internet. Here
are the answers to your queries:
To connect to the internet, you have to be connected to a
service provider. These are the computer equivalents of
telephone exchanges-you phone them telling them where
you want to dial to, and they will dial for you. Service
providers include Demon, Pipex Dial, Easynet and many others.
There are two different fees for using the internet. The first
is to the service provider as described above. The second is
the ordinary phone bill for using your modem to contact the service
provider.
Different service providers charge in different ways. Usually you pay
£20 or so for the first month, then £10 for any others. This will
give you unlimited access to the internet, but you still pay the
phone bill.
Yes, you do get charged for all the time you read. The internet was
not really designed for downloading programs, but it is possible.
£10 a month will give you access to anywhere on Earth. The only problem
is that far off places take longer to download.
