- <f1><c000> FROM GLORY TO DISGRACE <f0>
- the sad story about a Hungarian atari demo crew
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - -- -
-
- ::::: INTRODUCTION BY GREY :::::
-
- "HARD" - was one of the most promising and creative demo-crews on the 8-bit
- Atari scene appearing in the middle of the 90's. Their productions were always
- neat for eyes and ears, containing x-cellent logos, pictures, fonts and great
- chip tunes. Keepin' in mind that "HARD" was a new group built by people not
- previously known, everyone started to wonder "how it's possible to make such an
- outstanding entrance to the scene with such high quality stuff?". This
- Hungarian demo group became very famous and respected in leaps and bounds. Did
- they really deserve it?
-
- The career of HARD started to screw up at the famous QuaST party 95 in Poland
- when they decided to contribute to the 8-bit Atari demo compo. Unfortunately
- (or fortunately) they couldn't come to the party, so they sent their demo to a
- polish scener, Hermes, who brought it to the compo.
-
- Because the main organizer of QuaST party wasn't up-to-date with happenings in
- the 8-bit scene, he has asked one of the best and most active demo-groups,
- Slight, to become an official co-organizer responsible for all compos
- and other stuff concerning this part of the scene.
-
- When the deadline for submitting entries was closin' up and the Hard demo
- reached the hands of the "selectors", gathered ppl were witness to a really
- HARD discussion. Nothing was known yet so everyone thought that the guys from
- Slight were under the impression they were watching the "Joyride" demo by HARD.
- Adrenaline was pumping up due to the rumours about really x-cellent entries for
- XL/XE. Many groups prepared a lot of stuff 'coz it was a 1st QuaST edition open
- for the 8-bit Atari scene and the unparalleled occasion to showcase to the
- "bigger" brothers just how strong 6502's heart can be beat.
-
- Ok, let's show who rule now! It's time for the groundbreaking 8-bit Atari
- compos!
-
- The level of releases was simply OUTSTANDING, XL/XE scene did their best to
- make attendees jerk off! Cute graphics made with Antic tricks, sweet Pokey
- tunes enriched by samples, fast effects (most in 1-3vbls)... This caused the ST
- sceners to feel something less impressive inside their pants and they had to
- swallow it somehow that ST demo compo came soon. The Votion who prepared their
- multi-part demo for ST started to panic and were so close from running away
- together with their entry. And the nightmare came up... The Votion demo
- starts... Screen with very slow, small and crashin' wire-cube with black
- background and additionally enriched by few bombs... ugh! Everyone started to
- laugh and this was probably one of the least respected group inside 8-bit Atari
- community. It's wouldn't have been surprising if APC group did a big wire-cube
- with different effects on each wall and everything moving in terrific speed on
- XL/XE ! Not too mention the background and scroll... ;o)
-
- All who busily awaited the HARD demo could only... miss it! Why's that?! Seban
- of Slight told to the gathered public they will show it beyond the compo
- anyway.
-
- HARD was respected, known from releases before. The main rival of Slight on the
- 8-bit Atari scene was Shadows group which won the 1st place with their "Sweet
- Illusions" demo at the small party in 1994 year. Slight reached 2nd place with
- their "Bitter Reality" demo. And this party could be a chance for great revenge
- for Slight to conquest the 1st place this time! Even if Shadows didn't take
- part in compo this time... So this time Slight's serious rival became HARD's
- entry. Not everyone knew what the reason was for this step to not let them
- compete with all the others!
-
- Slaves/TQA revealed the unpleasant truth - HARD members are... * CHEATERS! *
- Because he had a C-64 at home, he recognized all the screens had been ripped
- and moved to the 8-bit Atari HARD releases, giving serious proof in the form of
- names of demos, groups and even PARTS of each production on C-64. And it didn't
- refer only to the QuaST contribution... but also their previous releases such
- as "Cool Emotion" or "Veronika" demo :(

- :::::::::::::: Slaves / TQA comments ::::::::::::::::
-
- I won't write what I've recognized in "VERONIKA" demo because you probably
- guess that... If you want to see it yourself - don't wait , just visit your
- nearest C-64 friend!!!!!!!!!! See it and let's join forces to fight with such
- lamers!
-
- About code in "HARD Software" demo... If you still HARDly believe it and you
- are so curious dude then you should to get in touch with such coders as Seban,
- Rzog, LBS, Gumi or Konop... They know exactly what's brutally ripped from the
- C-64... I can only add myself that all musics from HARD demos after ripping
- from their Atari demos play * perfectly * on C-64... (If you want it I can send
- you...).
-
- The main problem is that the guys from Hard Software won't to confess their
- guilt that they are ripped ANYTHING from C-64... Why's that? Hmm... Maybe they
- think that none in Poland have C-64? Ok, let's see what future brings... Maybe
- they will create something by themselves? (for what I am awaiting since 3 years
- already)...

- :::::: THE PAIN OF LOST FAME - GREY'S FINAL THOUGHT ::::::
-
- The root of all evil is the heart of a black soul
- A force that has lived all eternity
- A never ending search for the truth never told
- The loss of all hope and your dignity
-
-
- HARD had it all: Respect, fame, lotsa friends from
- 8-bit Atari scene. Something not
- reachable for many others. But they
- choose the wrong way to get it...
- It seems they forgot that every lie
- has short legs and their existence
- in the scene was only a question
- of time...
-
- HARD to believe...
- HARD to forget...
- HARD to forgive...
-
- Don't follow them. Think twice.
