- <f1><c000> LOST FIGHT OF THE BEAST <f0>
- why the hell did it have to happen?!
-
- consideration by Grey / Mystic Bytes
- --------------------------------------------------------------- -- - --- ------
-
- Jaguar. The world's first beast with a 64-bit heartbeat became a blurry shadow
- in gamers' minds. The beast who was the strongest one in this jungle has been
- eaten by household pets. That's incredible. Why the hell did it have to
- happen?!
-
- In the time when Jag was born there were none able to conquer this beast. It
- was a new generation brought by Atari to kids houses. 64-BIT heart, great gfx
- and msx possibilities, all packed in its small (stylish-looking) box. What
- about rivals? HUH?! WHAT RIVALS!? They didn't exist! The answer from Commodore,
- the humble CD-32 was total failure and couldn't jump higher than Jag's heels!
- That was the 2nd kiss of death from Atari after the release of Falcon directed
- at the guys from Commodore. The rest? 8-bit and 16-bit babes from Nintendo?
- Forget it, that would be so ridiculous EVEN TRYING to compare them to the Jag!
- :) Extremely huge abyss in technology!
-
- All sounds so great, doesn't it? So is there any healthy-in-mind human who
- could believe that such a machine could die so quick? And allow the others to
- kick out the Atari from the game business? Maybe only the die-hard enemies...
-
- SO WHAT THE HELL REALLY HAPPENED?!
-
- I really would like to know the right answer! I guess that only the closest
- Atari workers could answer it... We can only SUPPOSE various things. The most
- powerless side of the Jag was the shallow games bag. The famous Alien
- vsPredator was surely a real SMASH-HIT and showed who rules in that jungle. But
- what about the rest? Raiden? BruceLee? Who felt the 64-bit power playing these
- games?! Maybe there was few spies from the enemy camp working in Atari doing
- their best to destroy Atari from the inside? I am of course more or less
- kiddin' but it looks like that. Playing such pure games on such a powerful
- system could make gamers laugh! The low sides of Atari marketing are nakedly on
- show. Such titles should NEVER have seen the light of the day. That was a real
- shame and some ppl surely asked themselves "where are the Jaguar's teeth?!".
-
- Gamers were "hungry", they wanted to feel this POWER. But there was only a few
- titles for the Jaguar which showed what this beast is REALLY capable of. Just
- let me mention such titles as "Rayman" with its outstanding cute cartoon-like
- graphics, "BattleSphere" with great 3D objects, "Wolfenstein3D" which was the
- best looking version of any platform, "Atari Karts" the neat racing game...
- With such titles Jaguar could survive and maybe we could even see the follower
- of the beast from Atari?
-
- The rivals didn't sleep too long and guys from Sony and Sega rushed with
- revenge. Perfectly taking advantage of Atari's mistakes. Sony released their
- PlayStation with built-in CD unit. Producing cartridges wasn't THAT easy and it
- was just impossible to fit all data which could show the real power lurking
- under Jag's skin... CD unit for the Jaguar was delivered pretty late, the
- gamers had already moved to the Sony and Sega systems... The beast was dying,
- the oxygen has been administered too late!
-
- WHY THE HELL DID IT HAVE TO HAPPEN, MR TRAMIEL?
-
- It's so sad that such a great machine was buried so fast together with the last
- hope for Atari existence... SHAME ON YOU.
-
- Maximum respect for the Songbird, Scatologic and other companies still
- supporting this beast! It's pretty cool to see new games and hardware still
- produced for the Jaguar! Not to mention about such events like JagFest
- gathering Jaguar fans from all over Europe and beyond! :)
-
- The beast lost the fight... but STILL LIVES!
