Subject: (ztt) Trevor Horn credits
Date: 01 Nov 1999 10:14:19 +0100
Hello list, I read on Trevor's discog this weekend. However to me a number
of uncertainties appeared. Please comment:
BAND AID "DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS". Here Trevor is credited for the
production (together with Midge Ure). I have two different versions of the
7", but nowhere is Trevor mentioned?
FRAMES DC "FITZCARRALDO". Here Trevor is credited for the production of the
tracks 1-5 on a 1996 release. However my version is from 1995 (ZTT/WEA 0630
12845-2), and has no mentioning of Trevor?
Thanks in advance
Torben

Have anyone a Frames DC that credits to "Trevor Horn". As for the Band Aid
single, I remember the mentioning of Trevor Horn; but all along I only
assumed it was in relation to the 12"! Torben

Looking at the CD3 single right now:
1) "Do They Know it's Christmas" (12" Mix) Produced by Midge Ure &
Trevor Horn/Remixed by Trevor Horn/Engineered by Steve Lipson.
2) "Do They Know it's Christmas" Produced by Midge Ure & Trevor
Horn/Engineered by Steve Lipson.
So kind of a yes-and-no thing, really.

For a long time, I've seen little extensions on the end of record company
names on the back of my favorite CD's :
(ex: London Records "Ltd."; "Inc." ; etc.)
I know where most of these are from, but can someone tell me what the
follwing extensions actually mean ? :
"GmBh" (Germany)
"Pty." (Australia ?)
"Pte." (Asia ?)
"NV" (Belgium ?)
"BV" (Netherlands ?)
"KK" (Japan)
"S.A." (France ?)
"Srl" (Italy)
I was just curious, as this is something that has been puzzling me for a
long time. :-)

I have a 7" (German release), which states 'produced by Midge Ure and Trevor
Horn'.
However, I had also wondered about this thing, because my 12" (also the
German release) only credits Midge Ure for production - and Trevor Horn for
remixing (even of the B-side, which is the same as on the 7").

You've given the answer yourself: there's a different 1996 version of the
album with cat.no. 0630-15622-2. The same (2nd) version is now available as
ZTT 110CD.

Subject: (ztt) ABC
Date: 01 Nov 1999 06:49:43 -0500
I got this from the Tower Records electronic
weekly magazine:
ABC LESSON OF THE WEEK:
"How many of you love the '80s?" bubbled a local radio personality as
Martin Fry, still dapper in his powder-blue suit and blonde A-line haircut,
waited in the wings. But any hints of cheap nostalgia were quickly
dissipated once Fry and his long-dormant Brit-pop band, ABC, took the stage
last Thursday at Palo Alto's the Edge nightclub. Opening with a roaring
"That Was Thin, This Is Now," Fry and his skilled seven-piece backing band
launched into an energetic performance that blew away any hint of tawdry
revivalism. ABC's sole Northern California appearance -- part of a quick
and largely unpublicized tour -- drew a sellout audience from the Bay area
and beyond, most of whom appeared to know every word to every song: radio
hits like "Poison Arrow" and "When Smokey Sings," enduring favorites like
"All of My Heart" and "The Look of Love," even tracks from the group's
recent 'Skyscraping' comeback album. What Fry lacked in vocal endurance --
he warned the crowd that a doctor had told him to cancel the show -- he
transcended through sheer passion and enthusiasm, his band bringing all the
musical scope and vitality of their Trevor Horn-produced debut album,
'Lexicon of Love,' into the live arena. And while ABC has just released
'LEXICON OF LIVE,' in the U.K., there was no merchandise being hawked at
this show -- no T-shirts, no CDs, nothing -- just a crack live performance
by a band with all the skill and talent to break out of the '80s-nostalgia
ghetto. Good luck to them. (Forman)

Since Propaganda takes forever to release any new music (Mostly laziness), I
have made a mp3 file from the Propaganda video "No Return" which I
downloaded from their web site. It's sounds really good. It's 1:27 Minutes

Try it out. It's a good song. Too bad it's been done for over a year sitting

The dutch DJ is saying that the song has been produced by TCH and not for

I haven't seen it come on the list by yet.
As I am listening it sounds like songs from the toys soundtrack (but it
is'nt from the album)

Trevor has produced this one track for the new Charlotte Church album. I
think I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. It's coming out in the
U.S. this month on the 16th. Mainly she is a classical singer but the label
wanted to have a cross-over single to expose her to a wider audience so they
called in Trevor.

Hello everyone !!!! :-)
As I have one week left before I leave for the black pit of despair which is
Basic Military Training (lol), I just wanted to give an early goodbye to
everyone on all four of my favorite lists.
You have all been very fun and interesting people to chat with, teaching me
many valuable things regarding the love of music and technology. I will
definitely miss all of the silly flame wars and annoying post questions that
had been mentioned fifty million times before (;-) . It felt damn good to be
part of four groups of individuals who respect the masters of the music game
the same way that I do.
I don't know for sure when I'll be back online; maybe within the next three
to six months. I really have no idea what the fuck the future holds, but so
far I see plenty of recording, traveling, and meeting lots of new people. If
I get to be stationed in Germany, I might plan on bringing some friends over
to see Kraftwerk at Expo 2000.
Anyways, I want to keep it short and sweet, so let me just say that I love
all you guys and that I will miss you all very much from the bottom of my
heart.
God Bless all of you forever. :-)

Well, I apologize if this topic bored some of you out there the first time
it was mentioned, but that's what you have delete buttons for.
;-P
Anyways, as I had talked about before, I had waged the war in my head about
converting to Mac over PC (especially in regards to music making).
Although I will keep my PC for now, it will definitely go in the closet once
I get my hands on my new Mac system soon.
But there's just one problem. :-0
I originally said that I would start saving up for a G4 tower, but now the
new iMac DV systems have really caught my attention.
The new iMac DV's have now inlcuded all of the features that I originally
wanted in the first editions :
350 or 400 G3 Processors
100 Mhz System Bus
64 or 128 MB RAM
2 Fire Wire Ports
6, 10, 0R 13GB Ultra ATA Drives
8 MB Video RAM
ATI Rage 128 Card (2x AGP)
4x DVD-ROM
Harmon Kardon speakers
iMovie video software
Plus, I've always wanted to get into video editing. I've been thinking of
building a site to house all of my rare Art Of Noise footage on, but I don't
have a video capture device.
So now the debate is, which one should I buy ?
To paraphrase a statement made by Apple, they said that you would only need
a G4 over an iMac if you needed a bigger monitor
(??? Monitors are sold separately from the G4 towers), needed PCI expansion,
or if you needed more than a maximum of 512 MB of RAM.
Surely that'a a faulty statement.
I like the iMac because it's truly plug-and-play, and everything is so
compact and easily accessible (ever have to change an audio cable from the
back of a large tower case ? It's quite a bitch when you have little room to
move around !!!!).
Plus, I love the flavors (hey, when will we see a Lemon model ?)
:-)
But I want the G4 for its brute-strength processing.
Either way, both models will be faster than the newest Pentiums (according
to Apple's tests LOL) .
So what do you Mac Addicts think ? : New iMac, or new G4 ?
BTW : I know that there are USB MIDI boxes available for the Mac, but are
there any full-fledged USB audio cards/boxes out there ? I know that Roland
and Edirol released their UA-100 Audio Canvas, but its interface software is
specifically for PC. I really want to start doing 24-bit recording.
Thanks again for putting up with my long-ass posts.

part of Ford Motor Company's 'Voice of the Millennium'
ad, is from the self-titled second album by the
13-year-old Welsh sensation. Her first release (VOICE

much-anticipated new disc comes out on November 16.

Charlotte Church (SK 64356) also includes the original song "Just Wave
Hello", written specially for Charlotte for her star appearance in the new
international Ford television campaign for the millennium, which debuted
November 1. The song, produced by superstar pop producer Trevor Horn, is the
opening track on the new album.

I had the priviledge of seeing the 3 minute version of the Ford "Global Anthem". You'll find the
Charlotte Church/Trevor Horn song reminiscent of Marc Almond/Trevor Horn's "Hand Over My Heart".
But this girl, Ms. Church, can really sing! And it is, of course, magnificent production; perhaps
'old hat' to Mr. Horn. I assume the arrangment is by Ms. Dudley, it's also magnificent.
Though the album may not represent my particular taste in music, the Horn-produced track is
certainly enough for me to acquire it. I'm sure that was why they hired him for only one track, if
that's what they did.

Kraftwerk have produced the official 5 second jingle for the Expo 2000 in
Hannover. It has been reported that they have been paid 500,000 DEM for this
job...
Good for them. Anyway, it's good to see them back. I've seen that this CD
Single is already offered by some online shops, e.g. Tower Europe.

hi everyone, i've been in lurk mode for a couple of weeks now, and should
introduce myself.
my name is roger, and i'm a composer. just took my mfa in music composition
from the california institute of the arts last may. i've been writing
classical music for about 18 years now.
i'm a total fan of ztt, specially the 80s stuff.
andrew poppy was in the us last spring (bay area and los angeles) and
stayed with me for a week. it was so gratifying to meet an artist i had
been so in awe of for so long. his new work is really amazing. also, he
told me that before the zangers decided not to continue his contract, he
had a 3rd album in the can. can't release it though....contractual stuff.
too bad.
currently, i'm on a search for an original cd release of everything could
be so perfect by anne pigalle....anyone out there want to sell?
oh, and for Juno:
don't buy the iMac....as groovy as they are, you'll want to upgrade or do
something more intensive soon, and you just can't expand them very much.
the G$ is an all around better buy
take care everyone,

Wow, lucky you!! Could you tell us more about his latest work- has he
gone back to computer-based music? Is he doing long or short pieces?
Any prospect of it being performed/released?

Date: 22 Nov 1999 09:40:54 -0800
This is probably my first post to this list, but I wanted to mention that
those of you in the USA who have any appreciation of Marc Almond (whose
Trevor Horn-produced/Anne Dudley-arranged "Tenement Symphony" is one of the
great contributions to modern recording) should spare no effort to see his
soon-to-be-over first stateside tour in ten years. I saw him in Seattle on
Wednesday and it was sheer magic. The remaining dates are:
22nd November LOS ANGELES - El Rey Theatre
24th November LOS ANGELES - El Rey Theatre
27th November PHILADELPHIA - Trocadero
28th November NEW YORK - Bowery Ballroom
Again, spare no effort. - Luke
