Yep know what you mean, I was lucky enough to go see them play at the end of
last year at the paradise club in Boston US, top show.
I hope they plan on coming back this year.

by any chance has anyone spotted a tracklist for the reduction (bonus cd?) with
the (repackaging?) of seduction?
i thought i read it was released in the UK on march 20 but havent seen it pop
up via import here in the US yet.
i burned my own dreaming cd
- - way out west extended (from cdr acetate)
- - pre-release album mix
- - colour red (from promo vinyl, came out GREAT)
- - way out west clubbable club (from cdr acetate)
- - colour silver
- - way out west radio edit (from a Universal comp/also on cdr acetate but the
uni comp is mastered better)
- - colour green (from japanese cd)
- - colour silver (at 33rpm - seems it can be played at either)
fyi: the original december 1998 12" with the red cover, times are the same as
the acetate. the sleeve for the red promo lists the extended at 8:00 but this
is false, its 6:4x

No, but I have the CD here, so I'll type you one
> i thought i read it was released in the UK on march 20 but havent seen it pop

It's not been that widely advertised over here either, perhaps with good
reason - It was released on the 20th, and I picked up a copy yesterday,
on my way to the show.
It's shrinkwrapped with the (supposedly limited edition) digipack UK
version of TSOCD (thanks ZTT, I'll put that next to the other ones shall
I?), and seems to come in 2 different sleeves - one predominently brown
on blue, the other blue on brown. Although the tracklistings are not
visible from the outside because of the way they have shrinkwrapped the
discs back to back, I assume the contents are the same.
Here's the info for all the discographers out there...
"Reduction" UK CD5, cat no. ZTT147
1. identity crisis (5:50)
2. motive (5:09)
3. (new york london paris) spleen (4:57)
4. saluting the point of no return (0:43)
5. man and boy (5:17)
6. information (5.53)
7. and i placed my fingers on her eyes as though i were touching the
silent controls of a tv set (3:05)
Total time 30:40
My verdict? Disappointing.
Initial impressions are that it's not really a remix of TSOCD, it just
steals a riff or vocal here & there on tracks 1,2,3 and 5. The first 3
tracks are slow, low production value garagey-dance workouts. Tracks 5 &
6 by contrast are good fast techno-dance, well produced - a full length
album in this style would have made a good companion to TSOCD - 6 got a
live airing at the gig BTW. 4 &7 are underdeveloped fillers.
The credits seem to suggest this CD is the work of Paul Morley and James
Bradbury, not AoN as a whole, and the 'magic touch' of Anne Dudley or
Trevor Horn certainly seems absent.
At barely half an hour, this material should have been a single or low
priced EP (or perhaps used as b-sides), not an excuse to shift surplus
digipacks at full double CD price. ZTT are sitting on a mountain of
better unreleased AoN product than this!

As well as including 'The Seduction...', the 'Reduction' package includes
the following tracks:
1. Identity crisis
2. Motive
3. (New York, London, Paris) Spleen
4. Saluting the point of no return
5. Man & boy
6. Information
7. And I place my fingers on her eyes as though I were touching the silent
controls of a TV set
Reductions isn't a 'dance mix' compilation but a 'proper' remix album. I
haven't heard it enough yet to judge if I like it yet. It's not as immediate
as 'Seduction'. The 'Beatbox' sample is quite good though.
Amazon.co.uk have it at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004RJL1/o/qid=953820145/sr=8-1/026-1984910-6509409
I got mine from my local HMV. It wasn't in stock until yesterday though.
P.S. I'd love a copy of the CDR compilation!

Couldn't agree more with Andrew. Just got mine, and my conclusion is:
It should not be called The Reduction of C.D., since everyone will try to
match it to Seduction.
It is by no means comparable, it is merely a bunch of samples put together,
and I see no Anne Dudley fingertips there...
About the price, we guys buying this mixing's already have Seduction (mine
is the 3rd CD I get!!!, the first came standalone, so I ordered
again the one with the bonus CD, and now this!) so why not bundle it as a
single ? Arrgh!

Subject: (ztt) The AON Webcast
Just saw the AON webcast of Shepard's Bush at thepopcam.com; I was wondering
if anyone knew a way to save the video as a separate Quick Time file. I
tried right clicking on the link and doing "save as", but it won't work.
I REALLY want to have a copy of this so I can dump it onto VHS and make an
MP3 out of it. It'll be gone in April.
My Personal Commentary :
"Something Is Missing (perhaps J.J. ? :-) " reminded me a bit of Kraftwerk's
"Computer World" when Paul and Anne were singing the whole "Cell
Phones/Faxes/E-Mail/Pagers" line.
I had mixed feelings on the whole performance; AON's spontaneity is
something that they're obviously famous for, and that's why were all fans of
course. But at times, the performance seemed a bit too rushed(IMHO).
Especially when they did Moments In Love. The up-tempo groove towards the
end was cool; it made me laugh, but it didn't have the intensity and emotion
that the 1986 Hammersmith performance
exemplified.
I also didn't like how they skimped on the classics medley; just having Tim
and the other sound guy mix together Beat Box and Close To The Edit together
while Anne And Trevor played on top just didn't work for me. I thought that
they really would've revamped those songs live just for the sake of being
gone for so long.
It also seemed as if Paul was really trying to act as frontman (at least
this was how he was portryed on camera). Of course, he can't do much else
since he doesn't play anything, but did you ever see Gary take up that much
attention just mixing the board in the old days ?
A bit ironic for a group that never tried to have any lead singer and is so
against traditional convention. And what was that phrase that he kept saying
aftr each song ?
Now don't get the wrong idea; I enjoy Paul a lot. He's very charasmatic. But
I think someone who would be wacthing them for the first time would get the
wrong impression of just exactly what genre they fit into. Art Of Noise is
by no means a spoken-word group.
And what was the whole story about the Moments In Love remix that took 12
years to remix according to Paul ? This wasn't one of the reasons that I
know of that AON fizzled in the 90's. Was he referring to the Ben Liebrand
remix or the Bearting Hart's mix ?

It looks like it's impossible to copy without setting up some kind of
very clever dedicated proxy server. Maybe if we all begged pathetically?
I know I will be!

I just heard him say "Ta" (i.e. Thanks) after each song.

But TCH seems to love spoken-word stuff in general. Think of the
Pleasuredome remixes, Slave to the Rhythm, Rage Hard + ...

I reckon this was just another surreal joke.
