Subject: (ztt) ANNE PIGALLE - SOUVENIR D'UN PARIS 12"
Hi !
My name is Benoεt, I live in Paris & I'm new 2 the list.
I'm a big fan of Eurythmics, Rita Mitsouko
(http://perso.cybercable.fr/systemed/), Prince, Dead Or Alive, Dead Can
Dance, Craig Armstrong, Cocteau Twins, Sparks, EBTG, Yazoo, db,
Associates, Underworld (ZTT quality !!!), and lots of other bands.
On ZTT, I really love ACT, Propaganda, Anne Pigalle.
ACT
I've got the CHANCE 12".
I heard there might exist a CD single ? so ...Truth or myth ???
ANNE PIGALLE
I've got the SOUVENIR D'UN PARIS 12".
It's a french pressing from 1985. ZTT / Island 884 315-1
I once saw a 7", but don't own it.
Face A
SOUVENIR D'UN PARIS (extended version ?) (mix aguicheur) 7'20
Face B
SOUVENIR D'UN PARIS (7" version ?) (mix songeur) 3'55
LIKE WE DO 3'26
I think this single is mega rare, Bcause it's not even mentioned in the
official ZTT discography !!!
It seems it was only issued in France (perhaps also in Japan ?).
I heard it first at the DOK nightclub in Amsterdam, back in 1986.
Then I search for the 12" for... 10 years !!! YES ! I found it in 1995
!!!
So I think it's even more obscure than the ACT Chance's 12', which I
bought through Adrian's years ago for ú 45.
But it's not really sought after, the main reason being few people know
it exist, and ANNE PIGALLE
is not as much collected as artists like FGTH or PROPAGANDA.
If it was, it would easily reach the ú 100 - ú 150 level, I think,
Bcause, one just can't find it !!!
It was a total flop in France, so there was very few copies issued.
U can imagine, I spent 10 years going to EVERY record convention in
France, went 2 "marchΘ aux puces", the french "camden market" every
week-end, put ads in Record Collector and so on, and found nothing in 10
years time !!!
so, I do think it's absolutely mega-rare ! Have U got an opinion on that
?
I just send a scan 2 Guy B Phipps, so he can add it in his fabulous ZTT
discography
Hope 2 hear your feelings about the rarity of this record
Benoεt

Subject: (ztt) (AON) Art of Silence MP3's
Hello everyone !!!!
Due to the fact that J.J. Jeczalik has retired from the music business and
"artofsilence.co.uk" has been out-of-print for a while,
I will be making MP3's tonight of the whole album plus the Mantra mix of
"Teach Me (this is the short mix from Sasha and Digweed's "Northern Exposure
Westcoast Edition" CD)".
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT I IN NO WAY AM TRYING TO DO HARM TO J.J.
JECZALIK OR HIS COPYRIGHTS BY MAKING THESE SONGS AVAILABLE FOR FREE. I HAVE
NOTHING BUT THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR J.J. AND THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT HE HAS
MADE TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.
However, this album is EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND, if you can even find it at
all. It took two years of searching to find my copy !
But there is one catch : I DON'T KNOW JACK SHIT ABOUT SETTING UP AN FTP SITE
! If anyone would like to give me a tutorial I would really appreciate it.
Otherwise, I will have to send the tracks through ICQ (for those of you on
the list that have it).
I am also considering making MP3's of the Custom CD tracks, but I will only
do that for MP3's of rare mixes and singles that I don't have (ex: Close to
The Edit (Shep Pettibone's Radio Re-Edit) ; etc.)
Please contact me if interested, AND KEEP THIS TO YOURSELF ! The last thing
I need is for the people at ZTT and J.J. himself to bludgeon me to death
becuase I ripped all of these songs. LOL ;-)
Hormonally Yours (LOL),
NoiseWerker

Okay, now I have finished ripping all of the "artofslience.co.uk"
CD as well as the "Teach Me" remix from Sasha and Digweed's "Nothern
Exposure 2 (Westcoast Edition)" CD.
Still for those of you who are interested, please mail or ICQ me
(#42651237). If anyone has MP3 trades or offers for the AON Custom CD
tracks, please send those as well; for I will make MP3's of those songs if
the demand is high enough.
Yours truly,

Thank you, Shane!! A Secret Wish is one of my favorite albums from the '80s.
Yes is one of my favorite bands. Steve Howe is listed as playing on the album.
I sure ccouldn't hear him! ... until tonight. He is quite prominent on the
Polish mix of P-Machinery! What a treat! I like both versions equally, but it
sure is nice to hear him playing with Propaganda at last. The other tracks on
your site are great too. Thanks again!

I would imagine that this US bias that has been occurring lately is
partly due to Trev's fascination with rap and various pop culture. I
include pop culture as nearly all of his major work seems to be/or is
commenting on it. All the way back to the Buggles he's had an objective,
3rd person interest. Living in the Plastic Age is a phrase coined from an
old '20s Clara Bow "trash pop" movie. The liner notes to one of the
original ZTT AON album variations commented when they try to create
something mainstream, it always becomes something unique. If I could find
the actual remark I would quote it. Its on a vinyl copy in storage. Sadly,
pop culture, an American invention, is what governs most people's concept
of social structure. Blah blah blah. Nyah nyah nyah. Etc etc etc.
To my knowledge, ZTT and AON still reside in London. I don't even think
they have their second office in New York city. However, Sarm West studio
is in Los Angeles. I have no idea why Trevor thinks this is a good idea. Oh
well.

Sarm West is, and has always been, located in London.
Sarm West Coast is the name of the LA studio (or at least it was a
year ago).

All this time, I never noticed the addition of "Coast" to the name. That
is the one I was thinking of. And it is in L.A., though, I can't figure why. I
would have put it in New York. It's a guaranteed change of scenery, their way.
Really, I would be very reluctant to say that Sarm West is the center of
pop music. Pop music -like pop culture- is, actually, behind the pace of
innovation, fashion, style, and originality. Of course, I have limited
respect for pop anything. Consider it this way: nothing can become pop until
it is pioneered by someone else. Then, it's badly mimicked and, consequently,
run into the ground. Various examples could be brought up apart from ZTT
recordings; but, that is an easy way to trip off a flame war. In regards to
the discussion, I would say wherever Sarm is located, that's the center of
pioneering music. Or the center of the universe.
If I were a multi-millionaire, I would live in either Portland, Oregon;
New York, NY; or London, England. I, generally, don't like L.A.; as if you
couldn't guess that one.
