From: David Crouch <dcrouch@erols.com>
Subject: (ztt) re: The Delivery of Claude Debussy
Patient fans,
The U.S. promo release has 12 tracks in a slightly different order:
The Seduction Of Claude Debussy (U3P-1445)
1. il pleure [at the turn of the century]
2. born on a sunday
3. dreaming in colour
4. on being blue
5. rapt: in the evening air
6. metaforce
7. the holy egoism of genius
8. la flute de pan
9. out of this world [version 138]
10. metaphor on the floor
11. approximate mood swing no:2
12. pause
The sleeved is stickered with a "new style" mask with a 3 dot mouth.
It like there are THREE promo releases out there!
They're at it again...

Are the differences in the promos simply track titles and running order? Or
are there different mixes involved? I recall someone mentioning AoN
releasing a series of remixes of the album and wonder if these are samples of
such, or just worth picking up instead of paying twice for the album.

I got asked what the difference was between "The Total" and 12 ZTAX B22, so:
"The Total" is a 12"x12" presentation box, with a separate cover (with the
artwork) and tray (with space for the singles) -- like the "Kiss Like Ether"
or "Only One Word" boxes, or a 12" version of the "Power Of Love" Christmas
box if that helps. I know the discog lists it as ZTAB 22 but my copy doesn't
have a catalog number printed on it anywhere -- maybe there was a sticker?
Looks like someone peeled one off in the space between "The Total" and the
band picture on the right-hand side, but it might have just been a price
sticker. If the box was really sold empty or with only some of the singles it
would almost have to have had a sticker on the front explaining that fact
because it lists six catalog numbers on the front, kind of implying that
they're inside. I'll try to scan this thing soon.
My knowledge of 12 ZTAX B22 is mostly speculation. I remember that when Rage
Hard first came out one local shop had a version that was basically the 12" (I
*think* 12 ZTAX 22 but I might be mistaken) in a slightly thicker "collectors"
sleeve that left room to insert a few more 12"s. Not a gatefold or a box per
se, more like, ummm, maybe the third Erasure "Circus" 12". When someone
submitted the info on 12 ZTAX B22 I just assumed (booo! :-) that was it.
But it's been well over ten years now...
Does that jibe with what everyone else knows about these releases? Boy, this
really makes it easy to understand them changing the UK chart rules...

Anyone have a copy of "Seduction" that they want to sell ? Did anyone
participate in the AON chat a few weeks ago ? What was discussed ?

My box still has the sticker intact. It says:
12 ZTAX 22
peel-off sticker
in purple/brown letters on a white background.
If I cast my mind back to 1986 when all this stuff came out, the box
only contained 12 ZTAX 22. The idea was to fill it up with all the
other releases listed on the box to make "the total". This of course
omits the ZTAX 22 "Stamped" version 7" which came out after. I expect
most people stored all the releases in the box and they were later sold
as "complete".
The only reference that I have seen to a complete set with a catalogue
number is ZTAB 22 in the Record Collector discography. I don't ever
remember seeing this for sale when it was originally released. This
wouldn't be the first time that there's been an error in a RC
discography!
Hope this helps...
Simon

I do not have that sticker on my box-set but I also remember that I bought the
box with the 12 ZTAX22 inside. So I think it was originally sold only with that
12 ZTAX22 remix.

exactly the same here. I have no recollection of a ZTAB ever existing,
so unless proved otherwise, I'd put this one down to Record Collector's
over enthusiasm.

On the usenet there used to be a huge guide of all the samples used in songs
and where they came from. Thing was in, like, 13 parts. I've just searched
everywhere and can't find it any more. It was pretty exhaustive, listed the
exact sample, what track it appeared in, where the sample originated, etc. i
don't know if it would list something like a sample from another song, tho.
