Does anyone know the meaning of the title P:Machinery??? I know what the
song's about but not the title.
I thought about it the other night and couldn't work it out.
Anyone in the know?

Here is my guess. There is a pawn on the cover of the single, and in chess,
P is the symbol for the pawn. So the meaning would be that we are all pawns
in a big machinery.
Then again, I could be wrong, and the sleeve is just a coincidence.

Ah, but there's *another* 12" for P:Machinery with a pearl on the cover. So
while I think you're right about the connection between the pawn and the "P"
in the title, I tend to think that the title came first and the objects on
the sleeves came after. I say this, however, without any explanation of what
the title actually means. I've always wondered myself.

referring to the mechanisms of propaganda.

I'd originally assumed it was to differentiate it from another song called
'machinery', rather like 'close to the edit' avoiding the more obvious title
'close to the edge' because of the album of that name by Yes.
I'd guessed that the P stood for Propaganda, until I read somehwere about a
computer language (the name of which ecapes me - possibly lisp?) that uses
'p-' to indicate a query... does anyone know more about this possibility?
