i can't believe that i got this before all you US-based 808 obsessives, but
here's something i picked up yesterday.
808state - Cubik:98 *PROMOTIONAL 12" SINGLE*
1998 US; Universal Records, U8P-1318
10.42 Cubik:98 (Victor Calderone Remix)
4.43 Cubik:98
5.56 Pacific:808:98
5.30 Azura
3.35 Cubik:88
i've only listened to the new mix a couple of times, and it's pretty good. not
earth-shattering, but not bad...
it's in a black, die-cut sleeve and has a blue sticker with white writing.
marvellous.

Hello -
I just got a copy of "Dream On" yesterday in a DJ-oriented record shop in
Washington, DC. It was also the last (only?) one, though they said they could
get more. http://www.hyperreal.org has a list of DJ-oriented record shops
throughout the world.

Subject: (ztt) Adamski's Thing
Hello all!
Just got hold of a copy of the upcoming Adamski album. I find it's pretty
good - just as the singles (i.e. original mixes) suggested.
It's really solid, a unique kind of music currently, I'd say. Just as it
says, he's doing his own "Thing".
Go and have a listen when it's available!
* Adamski's Thing: Adamski's Thing
[27 Oct 1998] album
CD: 1998 UK (ZTT: ZTT 114CDP {ZTT 114CD}) [promo]
5:12 Memories Of The Future [Original Version]
2:04 Sparklin'
5:17 One Of The People [Album Version]
5:18 Existential Boredom [Album Version]
4:36 Intravenous Venus [Album Version]
4:20 Antibody
5:02 God's Teeth
4:52 Climbing Up
2:50 Love Story
3:21 Piccadilly Circus
3:46 Champagne Or Real Pain?
19:50 4:59 Ascendre Verso La Cima
10:01 {blank}
4:50 [Memories Of The Future (Alternative Version)]
(The tracklist is identical to the one from Henry's promo cassette, except
for the 'hidden' bonus track.)
Regards
Joerg
P.S.: Wonder what's become of "I Spit On Your Rave" (interesting title, if
you compare Adamski's Thing to the early Adamski stuff).

Subject: (ztt) "Frankie Say" Book
Hello All!
I went to a music show this weekend and what should I find but two copies of
Danny Jackson's
1985 book about the rise of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, "Frankie Say". It's
a soft cover book
and looks to be very interesting (I've never had a chance to see it before).
Well, since I picked up two copies, I though I might start passing the book
around to those
list members who haven't had a chance to see it. Say I send it to someone
to read
for two weeks, and then they send it back and I mail it to another person,
so on and so on.
Since I trust that the list is comprised of members of uppermost integrity,
I don't think
I'll have any problems with people not returning the book.
So, let me know what you think of the idea...

Hey ZTTists.
Found a Grace Jones 2-CD release called "Private Life: The Compass Point
Sessions" (Island 314 524 501-2) which includes an interesting vsn of
"Slave."
I've been seeking the 12" vsn for some time and this is the closest I've
gotten, "Slave to the Rhythm (Hot Blooded Version)" It's basically a
non-vocal mix for the first 2 min, then the vocal mix of the 12" (which I
blv is the same as the LP mix) except during the break, which was edited out
of the LP, whr she says, "I've opened myself now..." it's just instrumental.
It concludes the same way as the 12" which was edited down on the LP.
It's about 8:18. Certainly worth a listen. As to whether or not it's worth
the $20 I paid for it here in the States @ Best Buy? I'm sure I'll listen
to it many times over the coming years. :)

Subject: (ztt) Adamski's Thing in the U.S.
Hey ZTT-ers. Unlike Joerg, I haven't got a copy of the latest Adamski's
thing CD. But, I do have information on its release in the US.
Adamski's Thing: Adamski's Thing
[3 Nov 1998] album
CD: 1998 US (UNIVERSAL: UD 53213)
CT: 1998 US (UNIVERSAL: UC 53213)
Track listing looks the same. It does list the last track as
"Memories of The Future (reprise)". Whether it will be hidden or not like
on the UK version remains to be seen.
Here are some highlights from the press release:
You may remember Adamski (as Adam Tinley was then known). Perhaps best
known for his collaboration Seal on a track called "Killer", Adamski then
went on to release two grooving albums through MCA that made a major splash
in the dance community.
Adamski is now back on the scene with his new project, Adamski's Thing.
With a great new single ("One Of The People") and a self-titled full-length
album, Adam appears ready for a major crossover breakthrough. Inferno/Fat
Boy Records artist Gerideau provides lead vocals on six of the album's
tracks, including "One Of The People".
Marketing Highlights:
*Adamski is one of the most respected names in the dance community.
*Extensive club promotion with DJs and record pools has been underway with
various mixes of "One Of The People" since late August.
*"One Of The People" has just shipped to Modern Rock specialty shows and
will ship to Modern Rock for a late October add date.
*Two versions of the cutting-edge video for "One Of The People" are
available and will be serviced to MTV, VH-1, local video outlets and clubs.
*A press campaign targeting dance, fashion and lifestyle publications is
already underway.
*An 18"X24" poster will be available prior to street date.
______
Well, forget the highlights...there's the whole thing.
