Earlier on, we had a discussion about the opening lyrics to Dr.
Mabuse, and I remember someone making fun of the Japanese lyrics,
especially, Apple, sir? But is this not what the whisper right at the
beginning actually say? I've listened to it hundreds of times and I
keep hearing Apple sir.

Yes Joerg, there are more.
I have been following your and the others album critics and messages on
this group since it's release.
Though I know the album pretty good, I never felt to have myself involved
into your conversations, but I think now it's time to drop just 3 lines.
I don't want to state even one thought of mine regarding the album, but if

actually, since the theme of the song is the selling of one's soul to the
devil, and a reference to those old german dr. mabuse films, "apple, sir?"
makes complete sense as a reference to either eve offering adam the apple (or
pomegranite, whatever) or else an imaginered scenario of the devil offering a
mortal an apple as a symbolic temptation.

It's whispered not only in the german pronounciation, but also she divides the
three syllables. I guess that was what confused some.

Here's the deal:
808 State will be in the U.S. very shortly to discuss a new record deal for
the States. It will not be on Tommy Boy, because Tommy Boy didn't like the
new album when they heard it (I hope they'll regret it). But it will
definitely be on a subsidiary of Warner's.
So I guess 808 fans in the U.S. will have to be patient a little longer or
pick up 'Don Solaris' on import.

Good. Tommy Boy sucks anyways. They wouldn't know cutting-edge dance music if it clubbed them on the head
with a wrench and beat them to death. Their support for the last album was practically nothing anyway.
It will be interesting to see what label they end up on. I have a feeling though that since it is a
subsidiary of such a big label that the album won't get much support.

Here's some info for the ZTT discography (Hi Lazlo!) and the TCH discography (Hi Joerg!). I kept my comments
to a minimum except for the Cher album which I had to let of a little steam about.
Included in this update: 808 State - Bond single, 808 State - Spanish Marching (track from From Manchester With
Love.Net) [which has a cool interview with 808 which I will try to upload soon], The Frames DC - Revelate
single [TCH prod.], and the US release of the Cher album [also, TCH prod.]. Enjoy! Oh yes...if anyone is
interested in the Frames DC single or the Bond 12" let me know.

Tracks 1, 2 and 5 Original UK production by Stephen Lipson.
Tracks 1, 2, 4 and 5 produced by Sam Ward.
Track 10 written by Paddy McAloon [Prefab Sprout].
Comments: The album sucks. Cher's voice sounds horrible on all the
tracks and has too much echo on it, although that's probably done
to disguise here occasional off-key singing. I'm really disappointed
in the Trevor Horn tracks. They are very bland and generic sounding.
I was very excited to hear "The Gunman" since it was written by Paddy
McAloon who hasn't recorded anything with Prefab Sprout in about five
years. The tracks isn't very good though. The tune would be a
mediocre Prefab Sprout track and it makes a horrible Cher track as
she appears to be singing out of her range. The Dudley string
arrangements are very nice. "The Gunman" sounds like a left over
track from Jordan the Comeback in regards to it's lyrics. I'm
particularly annoyed by the "US Versions" of tracks. All this
producer Sam Ward did was add that stupid R&B keyboard sound
we've heard a million times on any R. Kelly/TLC/etc song.
Why do people think this is what the US market wants? Yuck!
I'm sure Steven Lipson is pissed about it.

Whoever does the TCH discography, I have something for you.
One of my sadder pieces of music is the Gary Glitter Party Album - a
Greatest Hits thing from 1987. In the credits it says special thanks
to ........Trevor Horn, Bobby Kraushaar. Why? If you want, I will get
fuller details.
As for the Cher tracks, I totally agree with that person that said
they were a bit suspect. I think the best track is One by One (prod
by SJL) except for that horribly intrusive sax instrumental which
sounds like a throwback to the low points of the 80's. Otherwise, the
wailing guitar and backing vocals are superb.

Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics for that song??

However, concerning the lyrics for Toys, a helpful hint for this friendly man
