  34. barfing into his mouth.  The back cover is another bondage scene with a
  35. woman crushing a man's genitals with her heel.  I will try to get this
  36. posted at the Axiom web site in the next week or two.

  41. The cover I saw on US-approved Guts CDs had the picture blanked out.  Maybe
  42. there is now a cover with the picture on it.  The front and back covers of
  43. Guts  and Buried Secrets, as they originally appeared, are at the Axiom web
  44. site (URL below) on the Images page.  Also, the Japanese version of
  45. Execution Ground, which has a third live CD, had an interesting photo that
  46. was not included in the US package.  That photo can be accessed by going to
  47. the URL

  61. I saw Elliott Sharp last night on his in-store performance tour that was 
  62. supposed to be with Zeena Parkins, but for some reason, she couldn't make 
  63. it.  Anyway, he fucked shit up!  (That's good, by the way.)  It was just 
  64. him with a combimation bass/guitar, and he also played an alto 
  65. sax/clarinet (pardon me for my musical ignorance, but as you can see, I'm 
  66. mostly doomed to being an element of the audience; :) ).  He went nuts 
  67. for what seemed like forever recording finger-tapping on the fretboard 
  68. into his echo pedal and then playing that back (from the echo pedal) 
  69. while improvising on top of that, and then heading back to the 
  70. finger-tapping rythym he created, all without missing a beat.  It was 
  71. fucking AWESOME, I tell you; almost mechanic, it was so precise.  When 
  72. playing the sax, he'd mute it with the side of his calve, and use this 
  73. breathing technique I've never seen before to play continuously for a 
  74. really long time.  He played for what seemed like a little over 45 
  75. minutes, with about 75% of that being working on the bass/guitar.  He 
  76. also utilized a myriad of other pedals, a drum machine, and he had a Mac 
  77. Powerbook doing some work (I assume as a second drum machine).

  79. Needless to say, I was taken aback by how good this was.  In the realm of 
  80. avant-garde stuff, I'm only really familiar with Zorn (which is probably 
  81. obvious), but now I'm scared because I picked up a Carbon CD last night, 
  82. and if I really like it, I'm probably going to end up doing like I do 
  83. with Zorn:  purchasing everything I can find by him.  And having this 
  84. affliction with Zorn is expensive enough!  ;)  My only regret is that I 
  85. didn't videotape last night's performance.

  87. I felt like a real buffoon last night, though, because I really wanted to 
  88. talk to Elliott Sharp and ask him a million questions, but I honestly 
  89. couldn't think of what to say or ask, so I ended up bothering him for 
  90. probably 5 minutes engaging in the most inane of small talk, trying to 
  91. strike up some sort of real conversation, but I failed miserably, and 
  92. probably made a fool out of myself.  Heh.  But that's life, I suppose.

  113. How old was Zorn in 1973?  He was some sick child.  From the inside jacket
  114. of this CD, I would guess he was a teen.  I wonder if he ever performed
  115. this stuff during a high school recital.  i can see all the kids' parents
  116. running for their lives.

  127. I have a complete opposite opinion on these new releases.  I was totally
  128. bored with Marc Ribot and still have yet to hear the whole CD in one
  129. sitting and probably will never happen, while I really enjoyed nani nani. 
  130. It's those 1973 recordings that really freaked me out though.  Just
  131. beautiful.
