  61. I made my own. Got a green silk shirt too small for me at a yard sale for 2
  62. bucks - painted the letters John Zorn on the back real sloppily with black
  63. ink and cut off the sleves. In one corner of an "O" with a white paint pen
  64. I wrote a block of text that looks like this:

  71. Voila. Instant Zorn shirt. I can't wear it to work or anything, but it's a
  72. great shirt all the same. And silk even!

  83. Zorn & Patton's last recorded team up was on the 1993 "Blue Planet Man"
  84. release, which was distributed through Paddle Wheel Records. The line up
  85. consisted of Patton (organ), Zorn (alto sax), Pete Chavez (tenor sax), Bill
  86. Saxton (tenor and soprano sax), Ed Cherry (guitar), Eddie Gladden (drums),
  87. Lawrence Killian (congas), and Rorie Nichols (vocals). The recording is
  88. really top notch, and some older Patton tunes ("Congo Chant," for instance)
  89. are given a well deserved and well executed dusting off. As good as that disc
  90. is, though, I am eager to hear Zorn and Patton work in the stripped down
  91. quartet setting, as sometimes the octet on "Blue Planet Man" can lose its

  100. I really just want to gloat 'cause I was in a used CD shop in D.C. and
  101. found the 1988 release of _News for Lulu_ for $9. Does anyone know if there
  102. is more different between the two releases than just the cover art? Also at
  103. Tower (where the guy on the jazz floor was a real dick - made himself look
  104. really stupid thinking he knew more about Zorn's music than I did and told
  105. me to look in the Israel section for Tzadik releases, remarking that "Zorn
  106. has done a whole lot of work with Isreali music") I found _Improvised
  107. Music, New York 1981_ in the misc. guitar section, and _Utopia americana_
  108. over in the classical section. This one is a really cool CD, if anyone
  109. hasn't heard it. Some Cage, Riech and Ginsberg, as well as the Zorn and a
  110. few others. The really funny thing about this CD, produced in 1992, is that
  111. the liner notes say that "John Zorn's music is a snapshot in sound of the
  112. 90s." and they pick a piece that was first recorded in 1978, which is ALSO
  113. mentioned on the CD sleeve! I find that funny.
