  31. Subject: Got my hands on....

  33. I was putzing around in my radio station when I found this old CD titled 
  34. "John Zorn Radio Hour." Now, I know that I'm not allowed to steal this 
  35. little gem, but I've listened to most of it already. It was made during 
  36. the recording of "Torture Garden" and contains some really awesome 
  37. different versions of tunes that cropped up in the final vinyl. Plus, 
  38. tracks from Pharoah Sanders, Hazel Adkins, Napalm Death, Brian Wilson, 
  39. Morricone, Huesker Due (sorry, no umlauts on this computer) and other 
  40. influences. Has anyone else heard of this thing before, and am I supposed 
  41. to treasure this more than I am already doing? It's cool to hear the 
  42. man's voice, y'know? Plus, I finally figured out how we got this odd cart 
  43. for airplay, with a Naked City tune and the repeated "I'm John Zorn" 
  44. vocal. It's a sample from him talking. Neat-o.

  46. Say, for those of you interested, anyone wanna....uh.....trade? No, I 
  47. won't steal this thing, trust me, it's going into the main library, but 
  48. what about some copies floating around? Seriously, I'll send if I can 
  49. receive. I'm interested in some of the more "calm" moments of Zorn's work 
  50. at the moment, don't know why, but email me at mwittman@delphi.umd.edu 
  51. and we can work out a deal, I suppose. Seriously, I would like to share 
  52. this moment of education (it's quite enlightening to hear him develop his 
  53. philosophy), and for a change, it's something that I listen to that I've 
  54. never read about in the digest. So, email me, and let's see what we can do.

  67.   I just found out about the list, and have looked at most
  68. of the archived back issues and was a bit suprised to see
  69. so little about the Masada CDs. I just picked up the first
  70. Masada CD, and think its great, especially the Coleman
  71. influences. I was actually a bit surprised how 'accessable'
  72. it was. What I'm wondering is how the other two Masada
  73. CDs compare. Are they better/worse?; same mix of styles
  74. or other do they have other influences?; more or less
  75. adventurous?; same mix of fast/slow numbers?

  77.   How about this 'free' fourth CD you can get. Has anyone
  78. mailed in for it and received it? I see it only has 3 tracks.

  116. Hey...just want to say that tomorrow (5/4) I will be able to see 
  117. Painkiller in Seattle!  Actually, this will be my first ever live Zorn 
  118. experience, and B. Laswell experience.  Needless to say, I'm incredibly 
  119. stoked.  I even had a dream about seeing them 2 weeks ago!  Anyways, i 
  120. guess Laswell will start with an ambient set, then Zorn will do some solo 
  121. craziness, and then M. Harris will finally join to slaughter the entire 
  122. audience.  Can't wait can't wait...

  129. To anyone who can answer:  Is Painkiller on tour or are they playing just a
  130. few selective dates? (i.e. San Fran - 5th, Boston - 10th)  If they are
  131. touring does anyone have a list of dates or know if there is a Chicago date
  132. (& location)?
