  41. I dont heard the Tai Pei and Jerusalem still.
  42. For me the best is The Middleheim, all is spectacular,
  43. the intro, the Nevuah's solos are magnificient, and
  44. the rest of the set is simply excellent, full of
  45. spectacular moments.
  46. The sound of the Sevilla is very special and the set
  47. of the Tonic is probably the best.

  88. I don't think that Erotico was ever recorded by Naked City, but it does
  89. appear on The Big Gundown.  The NC version is good but misses a lot with
  90. out the vocals, though Zorn's sax does an acceptable job of
  91. compensating.

  93. It is really nice to hear NC live at long last.  They are just as tight
  94. but the songs don't sound quite as sterile as they do on the first
  95. album.  They have a ton of energy.

  116. know most of the material. I think the patton cover is new.

  134. A while back there were some recommendations of synths here and I believe
  135. someone mentioned a Roland JP-8000 as a good analog-modelling synth. Just
  136. wondering if my memory is serving me correctly here, and whether anyone has
  137. any other recommendations, perhaps something new has hit the market since...

  139. And while I'm at it, anyone have any recommendations/comments on guitar
  140. synths? They've always sounded kind of cheesy to me, but maybe technology
  141. has caught up now, any good ones out there?

  253. I've also gotten an advance copy of the live Naked
  254. City, thanks to Bruce at DMG.  And it's quite good...
  255. sound very clear and clean.  I was afraid that the
  256. reason it had taken so long for this to come out was
  257. that the live tapes did not sound good and that Zorn
  258. was hesitant to put out something some sub-standard.
  259. But my fears were totally unjustified, as this sounds
  260. great.  As it was mentionned, Frisell really burns it up,
  261. and maybe it's just because I'm a guitar player myself,
  262. but I think he stands out quite a bit.  Well, this is just after
  263. one listen too.
  264.  
  265. Besides the variations and improvisations in songs, the
  266. other major difference for some tunes (mostly the short
  267. numbers near the end of the second half) with the original
  268. is the absence of Yamantaka Eye.  But the songs don't
  269. really suffer from it... if you'd never heard the originals,
  270. you wouldn't get the feeling that something's missing.
  271. They stand on their own, even though Eye definitely
  272. adds intensity on the originals.
  273.  
  274. As for the overall package, well if you weren't careful you
  275. could easily mistake the cover for the first Naked City release;
  276. very similar WeeGee picture.  Also, the inside booklet has
  277. the same drawing of the girl with the snake going thru her
  278. eyesocket from the first NC release, except in black and white.
  279. It really seems as though a parallel can be drawn between
  280. this first (from a series (!!), according to the obi) live release
  281. and the first studio disc.  There are also some pics of the band
  282. members.
  283.  
  284. For those who wished that NC would regroup to record Radio 2,
  285. and couldn't get enough of the studio discs, this is the next best
  286. thing.  The Naked City legacy has not been tarnished in any way,
  287. but extended.  In other words... get it!

  304. If you are just getting into Bacharach you'd be fairly
  305. safe buying any of the many compilations of his and
  306. Hal David's compositions from the late 50s to about
  307. 1970. Steer away from Burt's own recordings unless you
  308. intend drinking lots of cocktails with your parents
  309. and their friends. Don't even bother with the
  310. collaboration with Costello because it's simply
  311. another one of Costello's overly contrived fan works
  312. which shmacks of pastiche.

  675. While I haven't heard intergalactic maiden ballet, I would have to
  676. say that the "worst Zorn release" honor belongs to Joe Piscopo's
  677. New Jersey. Not necessarily because of his playing or input
  678. (which is pretty minimal), but just the fact that he was even
  679. involved in such a thing.

  682. involved with said Joe Piscopo album?

  684. PS - I actually own this CD, just for the sheer novelty. I picked
