  57. Did anyone in the Chicago area attend the MCA concert this Sunday?  It was
  58. a double bill of the Sainkho Namtchylak (sp?) Trio preceded by The White
  59. Hole.  The White Hole is a new music piece composed by Dafeldecker and
  60. Kurzmann, and it featured Kurzmann on computer processing, Sainkho
  61. Namtchylak on voice, and Stangl, Coleman, Dafeldecker, Jeb Bishop?, and
  62. Moser on guitars.  I don't really know how to describe the piece -- it
  63. sounded like the last two pieces on Stangl's "Recital" multiplied by 5
  64. with Namtchylak adding soft, beautiful sounds every now and then.  The
  65. audience hated it.  Many walked out, talked to their neighbors, and
  66. laughed contemptuously.

  68. I was very disappointed with Sainkho's set afterwards.  It consisted of
  69. her singing over hip-hop beats and traditional instruments.  Nothing
  70. incredibly exciting.  I was reminded a little of Sola's "Blues in the
  71. East," which is much more successful in mixing different styles.

  73. Plus/Minus and Marilyn Crispell will be performing Oct. 1, I think at the
  74. Hothouse.  Also Tim Berne is giving a free show at the Cultural Center on
  75. the 3rd.

  121. as Martin Krystall, listing Gregory instead of Greg wouldn't surprise me.

  168. Eddie Prevost at the Guelph Jazz Festival last month, John Tilbury has 
  169. recorded a limited edition 4-CD box set of 
  170. the piano music of Morton Feldman 1950 - 1986, called Morton Feldman - 
  171. All Piano.

  480.   I hate shows at the Cultural Center, cause they never promote them.  I
  481. consider myself to be very "up" on shows goin on in Chicago, and this is
  482. the first I've heard of a Berne show.....

  503. I just got back from the Sainkho gig at the Knit and
  504. agree with what you have to say here. It started off
  505. with three duets with Ned Rothenberg, which were
  506. great, but then continued with her band doing the new
  507. age world pop stuff. I'm a pretty big Sainkho fan and
  508. am really impressed with her determination to explore
  509. new musical territory in the face of her native
  510. tradition, but her pop projects are a little much for
  511. me.
  512.  
  513. Still, I think she is an incredibly strong and
  514. powerful human being and was pretty moved by just her
  515. presence on stage.

  616. performing tonight at the cooler as well. but in today's voice i see
  617. nothing about it and when i called the cooler, they didn't mention it on

  723. Then it's worth mentioning that Frisell is scheduled to play Yoshi's in
  724. Oakland on (I believe) November 9th. One day after my birthday and one year
  725. after Masada played the SF Jazz Festival. I think perhaps I should not miss
  726. this show; it was hard enough missing the Baron/Ribot/Medeski gig.
