I never fail to be impressed by the way information gets around... :-)
As the saying goes, I have no comment at this time. I'm not being
coy... it's just not something I know too much about just yet. But
it wouldn't surprise me.

Subject: CDs for sale\trade
Hello,
Either my room is shrinking or my CD collection is just getting way
too big, so I'm interested in selling\trading some of my CD's to remove
some of the cluttered mess. Only a few are really Zorn related, so here's
the few that I'm willing to sell\trade that pertains to this list.
Mystic Fugu Orchestra - "Zohar"
- Zorn & Eye - Strange stuff I'm sure you've read about many times here.
Improvised Music - New York, 1981
Zorn, Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, Sonny Sharrock, Bill Laswell, Charles
Noyes.
- Recording quality isn't very good, but I've NEVER seen this CD anywhere
(well, except this one)
Guitar Organism
- Kazuyuki K. Null w/ Fred Frith, Guy Lohnes, Ichiro Agata, Jim O'Rourke
Noisy guitar duets, What you'd probably expect from Null.
I may have more, but it could take forever to get through my CD
collection. I have tons of rock\alternative stuff I'm interested in
unloading, so if you're looking for something along those lines, let me
know and I might have it. Anyone interested in any of the above can
e-mail me a price or a list of possible trades. Sorry to use this list
for selling stuff, but I figured if they're just going to sit in my room,
then better to find someone on this list that might want them.
Also, someone posted the dates for Masada, and I thought since it was
left out that I'd mention again that they will be coming to Philadelphia
at the International House at Penn University on November 3rd. Hope to
see some of you there.

well, thje flexi consists of two napalm death songs from just as they
began to suck, and i think one new naked city song + one from torture
garden. Check the 180's+ release zorn discography list for more details,
availible somewhere on the net...

Subject: Frisell/Horvitz Inquiry
Ok, here's one to ponder: I was glancing back through what I guess was
last March's issue of Down Beat, with Mr. Bill on the cover. It kind of
blew through a bunch of what he would be working on (touring, new Ginger
Baker record, etc), and one thing they mentioned was that he and Wayne
Horvitz had been down in Nashville (yes, Nashville) working on a country
(yes, country) record that should see the light by the end of this year.
Is anyone able to at least marginally validate this and affirm I'm not
crazy? If this is the case, then I can't begin to imagine....
Later on all, have a good one...

I imagine it would sound very much like the Copland "covers" that Frisell
has done...his sound lends itself very much to country music and
American-folk harmony (a la Copland) in many ways.
And as Zorn says in the liner notes of News for Lulu: "When Bill does
surface from the trio texture he kills you with one of his tasty country
funk lines."

Subject: F.Frith, Masada, Praxis concerts in Poland
There are still much trouble to buy Zorn etc. CD's in Poland.
Not only that they're not available but also for the price.
I've got the "unofficial" VHS "PAL" copy of official, proffesional
recording
of MASADA, F.Frith and PRAXIS concerts in Poland made by Polish
Television.
MASADA played on Warsaw Summer Jazz Festival, July 1994,
F.Frith played with Rene Lussier, Mark Stewart and Nick Didkovsky in
Bydgoszcz, October 1995, supported by polish "MAZZOLL and Arythmick
Perfection"
PRAXIS played on Warsaw Summer Jazz Festival, June 1996.
I am interested in exchanging these materials for CD's which I can't buy
in Poland (e.g. FILMWORKS II) by post. (One VHS copy for one CD).
All of these VHS copies are the first copy from professional Betacam SP
tape.
Everybody who is inerested in and would like to help me, please conact
on
e-mail: Marcin.Witkowski@wor.tvp.com.pl
I could also buy and send an unique polish edition of "LIVE IN POLAND":
Wayne Horvitz & Pig Pen in the same way.
Sorry for my English.

It's true. Can't say too much about it except that it's done,
and includes the angelic-voiced fiddler Allison Krauss as well.
Evidently she's a fan... Recorded for Nonesuch and probably
coming next year, not this.

Why, so all those obscure records we've been collecting all these years
would finally get some collectors value? So Zorn could finally be
recognized as an important composer? So that record labels would finally
re-issue all of his out of print works? Or just so that he could jam with
Jerry Garcia?

Disc One: Loud, aggressive, almost thrashy stuff, pretty hardcore. Disc Two
is labeled ambient and is some of the darkest ambient around. Good stuff.
Japanese version adds a third live disc. Great cover photo (can be seen at

in reply to your review of execution ground:
the setup is Mick Harris (Ex napalm death), bill laswell (Master of the
DEEP) on bass, and zorn on sax. Their older stuff (Guts of a virgin &
Buried secrets) are basically spastic fits of chaos and emotion, and I
LOVE THEM! Execution ground is my favorite. first off, GO BUY IT!
the first disc starts spastic (one of the best album intros i've ever
heard) and moves on into deathy ambient dub (DEEP BASS ala laswell).
there's 3 songs, and each are awesome. Laswell's influence is more clear
on this album (especially since the other disc in the set is ambient, and
equally as awesome). I could go on, but you should just get it & love
it. I do. Also, everyone needs at least on copy of (Pleasanton, CA
locals) Smashing Lenny's mellons & a band called WALSHSTONE. ok. that's all.

It's Azonic, mostly noisy feedbacky guitar, mostly solo except for a little
bass from Bill Laswell. I like it, but I can't say I play it more than once
a year.
The label is Strata, availability is fairly poor since the pressing was
pretty small and the label is more or less gone. It seems to pop up in used
bins every now and then.
