I hope Yello's film becomes a mainstream film rather than a cult film.
Yello's music etc. is for
everyone to enjoy - and I hope that the film isn't made just for Yello
fans.

By mainstream, I don't mean that Disney would buy the franchise and then
start distributing 'Lightmaker'
toys in outlets all around the world, It's just that I hope as many people
who aren't Yello fans get to see it.

And Jonas =AD I now realise how some of you are able to reply to mail
so quickly (by not subscribing to the digest format). I for one
would not have the time to read and reply on a daily basis (although
it does make for good conversation). I also agree with you that the
digest can supply "old" news by the time you get it. I guess we all
have our preferences, but perhaps something between the two would
satisfy more people?

And finally..... I can only assume from the lack of response that
neither Boris nor Deiter have the time to read any comments on this
list - which is a shame, as some of their feedback would be great!

I agree, but when I said cult I mean 'us' Yello fellows... We are already
totally into the movie, trying to get every detail about it and thus
creating sort of a cult around it. Even before it's out (if it ever will).

Anyway, reading your meassage got me thinking about a Yello Action Man
Collection. Could be great for a christmas present :-)

news: The new title from Yelloalbum is "Eccentrix"
With remixes,and three tiles who not realeased since before and a new
version of "The race" But without B-Sides. Maybe in February comming the
new album.

Hmm... I see your point, but myself I've always seen Yello as an eccentric
band the way they make theire own way through music. So I would say that
Eccentrix is a good title.
Maybe I'm to close to their music beeing a fan since 14 years so I can't
really say how a non Yello fan would look upon it.

The dictionary definition of 'eccentric' is odd; unconventional.
Very good descriptions of Yello I think.
They are certainly unconventional and anybody looking at one of
their videos would think them an odd couple.
So on the face of it, quite a good title for a Yellow album.
There may be a deeper meaning of the word 'Eccentrix' though.

Daniel. OK. Hint understood. I take it you meant 'rubber',
being a continental phrase for condom? Is there really a town
in France called that? Not the sort of place you'd want to
tell people you were visiting! I suppose it was a typing error.
But on my keyboard the letter 'r' is a long way away from the
letter 'l'. Or am I on the wrong track completely?

Olga. Well. What can I say. Your jokes are getting a bit more

I suppose Yello are far from conventional, so the title perhaps fits
perfectly with what Yello's all about.

At a more deeper level, again we come back to that argument
about what is normal in music. The dictionary definitions
of music, often refer to some kind of ordered sequence of sound,
 (perhaps someone can also define the definition of music
to the list..).  A personal view is that it is at a  very fundamental
level; -
 hard to state where the boundaries of music end and the boundaries
 of sound begin. I think this is the argument that Boris would put across
 himself. -  "Any sound is music to me,"

Before getting into the age old argument about what is "art," I suppose
 I just have to accept that to most people, 'Yello's'
music, is eccentric, in that they are not sound prejudiced, -  they
will use any sound as long as it works in the track. Then again, they
do do 'dance' music. They are both original and yet conform.

I know for a fact that many bands, who regard themselves as original
would not dare put the sounds/ sampling that Boris incorporates into
their music.

Infact - and here to me is the crux of the matter - there seems to be a
duplicity
in many bands that say - "there's two guitarists, a drummer and a singer -
and we're
more natural than any band that's around....at least we sing from the
heart...as opposed
to all these anonymous bleeps that are produced by electronic bands...."

But are they more natural? Surely a band that; if it likes the sound of a
basketball
 bouncing around will use that , or " a wet newspaper slapped against a
wall,
 " is at least being "more" honest and saying"Yes, we like that sound, and
we're gonna damn well use it," as opposed to the many, many bands who
were once mates, then  started a band, and *then* (God forbid!) started
doing "gigs."

It's just that to me Yello's approach to music seems entirely natural, even
if it's way off the
scale of what is accepted as a normal form of music. Does this say
something about society's taste?

In terms of artistic taste, there seems to be a very powerful mechanism of
conformism at work today - spreading across fashion, music, and perhaps
everything we can describe as artistic. The greater the uncertainty the
higher the level of
conformism between the people involved. Let's be honest, - in the working
week,or when
people enjoy themselves at the weekend, - most people really do not care
about what
I am arguing about above - (which includes about how all artists create
their work.)

The luxury of being able to discuss music at length over the Net, is
entirely
relative to other people'sidea of luxury. Indeed, music is certainly low on
the
list of priorities when you have certain responsibilties and commitments.
Perhaps the conformism
of the club-culture is very much a bi-product of the reality of everyday
life - and Yello's music,
which while being a pleasure to listen to - is distanced from this daily
routine of survival,  - hence
my guess that someone from Mercury came up with the title 'Eccentrix.'

I thought somebody on this list said it to be called "Essentrix" and not =
"Eccentrix", which to me seems like a better title. I mean, "Essential" =
(essential singles collection) and "Essentrix" (essential remixes =
collection). Kind of like ESSENTial RemIXes, you know? :)

Well, that's just what I thought when I read the "Essentrix" message.

I don't find the name "Eccentrix" negative or offensive. Calling
someone eccentric doesn't mean that he's an "old duffer" to me. It all
comes down to what you say apart from that he's eccentric. So, it's no
problemo, really, as far as I see it. (Is "Essential" a better name? I
mean, not even us on the list could probably agree on which tracks are
the most essential...)

Hi all! I've started a new Yello mailing list, using the excellent =

I feel there's a need for a new list: for the "busy" fans who don't have =
time to read lots of more or less relevant postings, but who still want =
to stay in touch with other Yello fans and read news whenever there are =
any. One advantage is that I get information directly from Yello Office, =
and I can also answer most questions.=20

I don't say that one list is better than the other, it's just that =
different people have different needs.

Jonas,

While I applaud much of the important and very valuable work you do for
the fan's of Yello, I question the need for another list.

Does this mean that all fans who regard themselves as serious will be
subscribed to one list only, or the other? Will we all be on both,
getting mixed messages, cross posting, posting replies to the wrong list
(this list is configured reply to sender remember), getting just the same
amout of irrelevant postings that any list will get as natural noise.

Sorry, but I don't advocate it, if this list does 'split' into two, I
will not be able to afford the time to attempt to work out which message
came from which, and who I should reply to. In the shorter term it'll
confuse all and increase the noise (we've not all been on the 'net for 5
years plus), and irritate the hell out of me.

If it happens, I will unsubscribe from this, and not subscribe to any
other. It was suggested on another list  and rejected out of hand, and
the mesage volume constitutes 2-3 _digests_ per day on average.

Other views (flames?) on this welcome, echoed to the list membership
please. The list is the members, not the owners/organizers. This
suggestion alone has already created this, which only mentions "Yello"
twice, and has nothing strictly to do with them.

I agree with Nic - I like the mix of serious and silly and I don't
want another list. If Jonas is lucky enough to get info from the
Yello office why doesn't he continue to post it on here?

I'm all for free enterprise, but there's barely enough traffic
(official or otherwise) to support *one* list, let alone two. Please
reconsider Jonas - it's a mistake - it really is...

I agree with both Nic & Andrew - I enjoy the strange & interesting mix  =20
that we get on the list=2E  A brilliant example was the very funny Puff  =20

There is another argument against the new list. Onelist.com site says that
it is sponsored by advertisement. It means that we will receive a piece of
junk mail included with every posting.

I got the impression (though it certainly wasn't explicitly stated
as such) that Jonas list would be primarily a means for him to
distribute news items or announcements on Yello, and not a general
discussion list. If indeed it is an announce only list (probably
moderated to control the quality of posts), and all messages posted
to it are cc'ed to this list (by the list server), then I'd support
the concept as a good idea. (Jonas should also repost newsworthy
items that appear on this list to his list.)

Separate announce lists are a great idea in my opinion, and I wish
more music related lists had such companion lists. I know I'm on
several other music lists where the volume is so high that I tend to
rarely read them (they get automatically filed) and I miss out on
the newsworthy items among the noise.

I know Lazlo (the owner of this list, [e-mail]) has
such announce lists for other lists he runs. Perhaps, if the above
was Jonas' intent, the new list should be created by Lazlo so
subscribers can find both lists in the same place and chose which is
best for them.

There's no need to confuse it like that. You just pick the list which =
fits you best.
About reply to sender versus list, there is information on my mailing =
lists page about that.

If you like the mix of "serious and silly" and you don't want another =
list,
then you don't have to do anything. But there're others here who *don't*
like it, or at least don't have the time for it, and the point I was =

is that there should also be an alternative for us. Right? I will post =

That's not true, and it's obvious you're not subscribed to any list at =
OneList.
I'm running 12 lists there, and so far that has *never* happened! Don't =
ask me
why, but maybe some of the spam I'm usually getting directed to me =
personally
is from a "customer" of theirs? I don't care.

I don't intend it to be a one-way news-list only, although I proposed
this idea while in Zurich. However, I can always modify whenever
I want to, it's a very flexible system. Time will tell what's best. All
messages on my new list will not be automatically forwarded to this
list, only important news (which happen seldom, sadly).

I describe both lists on my Yello page, and also on the OneList page.
Everyone who searches through the Yello Web Ring will also find this
information. Lazlo's site is not registered there though. And besides
I've long since given up believing that Lazlo would do anything I =

I think we should wait and see how things turns out, before we decides
about the new list.
My guess is that most of the people interrested in joining a Yello
mailinglist are already subscribing to this one, so I don't think it's
going to be like 40 extra messages a day just because there's two lists. As
already said, there's just so much news you can discuss and then that's it.
And when the noise is off, then my guess is that it'll be a relative quiet
list. And that's probably good for those getting loads of messages every
day. (Unlike me, I might add.)
I'm subscribing to both list, but I don't mind the *noise* on this list. I
only think it's spices things up -Making a little Yello-cozyness.
In my mind this is still the main Yello list (in fact I'm working on a
special 'recommendation' for this list, to put on my site, -waving to you
Lazlo :-) ).
My only hope is, that people will keep from crosspostings. Hopefully we all
have enough netiquette to respect, and support the idea of having two lists.
Let's give it a chance.

You have my support, Jonas. And btw, now when you get more time from not
reading *noise*, one can hope that your book will be out sooner :-)

I honestly thought the list topic made no difference but now that is has

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the list=2E  We do all talk  =20
nonsense from time to time, but Yello do not release an album every week  =20
and there is only so much you can discuss regarding there other work and  =20
previous tunes=2E

I agree the 'list' subject has probably been done to death, rather like  =20
the 'PU' discussion that raged for quite sometime, but we are always  =20
looking for new subject matter and whilst we all are waiting patiently  =20
for the release of Eccentrax, other topics are bound to crop up=2E

Anyway my point is, as long-winded as it may sound, is that by having one =20=
=20
central discussion group everybody is kept up to date with the latest  =20
news and information on the Swiss duo and we can also air our views and  =20
thoughts on other related subjects=2E  By having 2 lists or more,  =20
information will be missed by fans and thoughts will become saturated=2E

Hello Guys and Gals,

There are a number of items in the 95 digest which I feel need a response.
Firstly, it would appear that the daft humour of James is rubbing off on Daniel!
We now have a 'divine intergalactic mystery' and sarcasm relating to 'To The Sea'!
I can see why Jonas is suggesting a 'serious' list. Don't get me wrong, I like a
joke like anyone else, but you really must make it clear somehow so I don't waste
my time giving you comments that are not really wanted. We can all wind people up
by posting all sorts of nonsense, but that is not the purpose of this list, is it?

Secondly, the fact that this digest (95) only arrived on my desktop today is a good
example of why we need postings more often. Nathan says that this 'list' subject
has been done to death. This is the first time I've read about it, mainly because
the 95 digest spans 7th December to 10th December (except for poor Daniel who's
still back in 1st Jan 1996 - Happy New Year Daniel!). I know a lot of you are not
on the digest and get mail every day, and subsequently can respond and debate
quickly. I personally don't want individual mail that needs to be filed daily, but
receiving four days worth is a bit too much. You see, we all want something different!

And finally..... I can't see anything wrong in Jonas setting up another list.
Those who go there and like it, will use it, and those who don't like it, won't.
As he has said, he won't stop posting information to this list, so what's the
problem? I haven't looked around for other Yello lists as this one has so far been
interesting and fun. How many other Yello lists are there?

And finally, finally - am I still in line for the prize? (1949!)

This was seen on the Art of Noise mailing list. Just thought I'd let everyone
in on it as I've been a fan of both since their inceptions and this guy's
thoughts pissed me off:

...Number two, if you want to hear AoN get thoroughly ripped off, go listen to
"Essential" by Yello.  This album is soooooo much an AoN rip it's sad.
After Yello made it big with "Oh Yeah" they dropped off the charts here in
the U.S.  I can see why.  This album, a greatest hits collection I believe,
has blatant elements from just about every AoN track in the catalog.  I mean
race car samples, drag race announcers, guest spot samples from The Fat
Boys... you name it.  There are three or four tracks that could have easily
been named "Roller 2" "Roller 3" etc. for their similarity to "Roller 1."
There are horn samples that are very "Dragnet" and others that sound very
"Kiss."  There are moments of brilliance on the disc, but the best tracks
often are ruined by stupid lyrics.  Almost every song is about driving, or
includes the word "games."  Sad really... they had so much potential.

Just some thoughts:

1)  If Jonas wants to start his own list, let him.  It's a free world.

2)  Unless Jonas vets each message he may find it difficult maintaining his
list as a "serious" list.

3)  I subscribe to the digest version of this list.  It takes me only a
couple of minutes each week or so to read the messages (except when there
is really heavy traffic).  It means I am not 'up to the minute' but that is
not so important to me.  The digest version is not for everyone, but some
who find it tedious clicking through dozens of more 'lightweight' e-mail
may prefer it to leaving the list altogether.

I hope that whatever happens with the lists, the quirky, lighthearted,
fun-loving  nature of all of us Yello fans will prevail.

Let me clarify it again to all: my "new" list *is* a mailing list,

There have only been two test mails so far. No jokes. Anyway, at onelist
the mail as such always start with a "from" line, giving the name and =
email=20
address of the sender. And it always ends with the following text:

To unsubscribe from this mailing list, or to change your subscription
to digest, go to the ONElist web site, at http://www.onelist.com and
select the User Center link from the menu bar on the left.

When you hit the reply to author button, it goes to the entire list.

And if you subscribe to the digest version, which assembles all emails
during one day (be it 1 or 15) and sends them out in one mail, then you
will see a presentation of all mails first (sender and subjects) and =
also
it states how many emails the digest contains. You only have this =
"problem"
if you subscribe to both lists though. Like I said I will send important =
news
to both lists.

Hello narod,

I understand that many of you don't like Yello videos. For you they are
boring. So one thought came to my mind. Dieter is the director of these
videos. You find them dull. So he is a wretched person, yes? Let's see.
 The music is the first thing, right? Lyrics is not important as much as the
music. The proof of it is that when you're listening to the music, the first
thing you're noticing is music, isn't it? All the music is composed by
Boris.
Dieter's voice isn't so strong to call him a good singer.
So he is a bad director, he is not a good singer and he never have an
influence on the music. He is NOTHING. (As for me, I don't think so)
It means that if Yello could split or if Boris could make another
collaboration, then nobody would care.

later in the UK, than in the rest of Europe? PU was released well
after the European date in 1997.

I believe I understand Olga's sarcasm here...

Of course if someone lacks in one area of talent, it doesn't mean that
person is devoid of ANY talent.

Is Dieter totally in charge of making Yello's videos?  Most artists prefer
to get professional directors to do their videos, and even though they have
some influence on the style, it's the director who really makes it happen.
It sometimes takes someone completely independent from the making of the
music to bring a new vision to making a great video.

I recently saw a little documentary on Busta Rhymes, and the director he
likes and often chooses to direct his video.  If any of you have seen them
(especially the new one for "Gimme Some More"), they are fascinating works
of art; their own genre; and completely unlike any other "rap" or "hip-hop"
video.  They embrace images that both compliment and heavily contrast the
music being played.

So don't 'throw the baby out with the bathwater.'  Any of you might
strongly dislike Yello's videos, but that shouldn't take away your love of
their music.

Uhm, my lips are sealed at the moment. The point is that not even =
Mercury have decided 100% yet what to release and when. There are plans, =
but as long as they are only plans I am not allowed to reveal anything. =
By early January they will hopefully have decided 100%, and then I'll =

Hi all,
     Hope you had a good Christmas!
     I've  seen a 1-track 'gold' (Ooooo!) recordable acetate
of 'To The Sea' for sale from a fairly well known UK music
mail-order company.

I enquired about this with sales staff and they said it
was a master copy of the single used in the recording of the
UK single. However, due to it's fairly low price (?35) - just how 'rare'
is this? Are there any recording experts who can clarify whether this
really is rare, or if its one of several master copies used in production.
