G'Day,
Just some info:
I am a long time fan of Yello and Alphaville.
Interesting that Deiter Meier directed the video for Alphaville's "Big in
Japan" and his wife appeared in the video as the Japanese girl.

I'm wondering if I am the only one that enjoys the Yello tracks that include
guitarist Chico Hablas on them? I bought his solo record a long time ago and
have fond memories of that as well, though admitedly I haven't played it for
several years.
I am not a guitar afficianado per se but would guess that he has a few Santana
records in his collection. His playing is spirited, thoughtful and it must
have been a treat for him to lay down some licks aside Boris' sound
constructions.
All the best,
Fred

Well, I enjoy all Yello tracks... :-)
Have you got your hands on Carlos Peron's 'TranceTrueMental'? That =
was co-composed with Chico Hablas and someone called Philippe Alioth, =
and contains (not surprisingly) several tracks featuring Chico on the =
guitar, sitar, tambura etc.

I like the things he's done with Yello a lot and I've been looking for his
soloablums for years now but so far, no luck.

If we are lucky, i.e if all the red tape and papers
are OK, then we will see a new Associates release
before the end of this year. It's the shelved album
"The Glamour Chase" from 1988 which will, I hope,
include at least four rare and/or unreleased Yello
tracks with Billy MacKenzie singing: Snowball (aka
Life Is a Snowball) [very rare], Rhythm Divine (with
Billy on vocals instead of Shirley), In Windows All
(which was released on Billy's solo 1992 album,
now deleted), and finally "Because You Love", which
is, according to Boris, beautiful! (Previously unreleased).
So let's keep our fingers crossed. JW
PS, more Associates albums will be out too on CD
at the same time (if....).

I spent ages getting hold of 'Popera' - well worth having for the
'Rhythm Divine' only...

...but I'd love a copy of Perhaps on CD - great singles and a few
corking LP tracks on there too. I hope his version of Simon Dupree's
'Kites' makes it onto a CD - brilliant!
Still miss ya Billy - I drive past where you used to live in
Auchterhouse every week, and the guys at Groucho's Record Shop are
always playing your heavenly disks. Sing on, brother!

It is! It's on the BBC Radio 1 sessions CD. However, I heard a stunning
version of this recorded from a French TV show (hosted by Antoine de
Conard)... just Billy + piano. I don't think it ever made it onto vinyl
though, letalone CD.

The *one* bright point at the end of the Billy MacKenzie biography (which is a
great read and well recommended by the way) was the fact that the rights to
his recordings have reverted to his family. Here's hoping that a sensible
Associates reissue program is in the works...

Subject: (yello) really new sounds ?
Hi !
Do you remember the Remix-Contest with HowHow ?
On the Maxi-CDs there were this HowHow Samples an some more
from the "Boris sound library" ;-)
Yesterday i was happy to get an CD from "Recoil". This is an project from
the ex-Depeche Mode "Alan Wilder". The sound is good and after a half minute
i was really surprised as i heard this helicopter sound i know very well !
This sound is exactly on the howhow MaxiCD !
It is not only a helicopter, there is also an flanging-effect on it.
Have Alan Wilder this CD also or have both musican the same library and
boris does not design new sound for new songs ?
Another Experience in this direction i had about 3 years ago. A friend bought
the "Korg Wavestation". In this Synthesizer are exactly some Human sounds
Boris used on the (i think) Zebra.
Does Boris really Design new Sounds or have Korg asked Boris for sounds ?
I only asked this, because i hear more and more musicans who use library
sounds, since i hear this librarys as an musican too :-\
I think Boris design new sounds and i would do this too, if i can live from
the money as an musican ;-)
But strange, how easy some musicans take sounds...
Have anybody experiences of this kind too ?
have a nice weekend !

Hi yes I have noticed that Yello sounds are used quite a lot in
records I have heard ,particulary during the Rave scene here in
England 1988-1993.
Also On The Run 's twisting sax's was sampled heavely in I think Tin
Tin out's record released about 2 years ago.
It's nice to hear someone else has an interest in yello's sounds, I
got the How How samples of the future music magazine in 1994
where Boris also did a interview with the magazine...
I heard your Over Paris record which I liked a lot, a bit scary, it
would be fantastic in a horror film!
I have been trying to find Outernational does anyone know where I
could buy it?

S.A.X. human sounds are in Kurzweil. What human sounds do you mean?
So, should we record those sounds from the various synths in case we
would like to make remixes on our own?
>Does Boris really Design new Sounds or have Korg asked Boris for sounds ?
I would like to know all details about samples too. And if Boris use
sound libraries, I would like to know about those in case names of
collections are easily found out.
At 1985 one interview claimed that Boris will sell his sounds on CD.
I saw that CD cataloged in a catalog in shop -- price was about $200
and thus I didn't want to order it. Can anyone confirm this? Both
me and the guy in shop wondered why a CD could be so expensive.
I would like to have a copy of that sample CD!
By the way, I have a copy of Fairlight II sounds and there are
some sounds Yello used between 1981-1985 when they had FII.
Yours,
Juhana

I've seen more sample-cd's at that kind of prices, so it's probably
correct that it does cost about $200 (unfortunately).
The reasons for that are (I guess) that the artist sells you his
sounds so you can use them in your own (commercial)
productions. Sounds are not subject to royalties, so only by
expensive selling, the artist's able to make some money out of it.
Anyone correct me if you have a better story...

I'm always interested in all kind of samples. I'm trying to start up
my own libraby now, so I'm also interested in that 'Fairlight II' you're
talking about.
So tell me more...

Olaf.
