Jonas, please don't reveal it yet.
I have not yet listen to the songs but one sound which popped up
to my mind is one in La Habanera. I find that this is a great "trivia"
and would like to spend a bit time on it.

boris created that thunder pulling down an adhesive and converting the
frequency of this sample - he once told in an interview.

Hello. Because you're only one who mailed so far to me and because others
are discussing in the mailing list, I will bring this to mailing list too.

I'm interested in cataloging sounds from Yello albums. The sounds need not
be alone in the audiofiles but there could be (certainly will be)
background too. However, the length of the audiofile would be exactly the
length of the sound.
Maybe melodies and rhythm patterns could be cataloged similarly.

Juhana

This is madness! How can you *catalogue* Yello (or any music, for
that matter) except by when it was written and who by? I'm a
Librarian by profession but I wouldn't dream of trying to 'catalogue'
an artist!
Let's not get too anal retentive about cataloguing creativity - music
is to enjoy as a whole, not to disassemble into its constituent
parts, surely?

I agree. This would be like indexing a book by specific words. And the
only book I know of that has had that done is the Bible.
Unless...do you have a specific reason for wanting this done, Juhana?
Perhaps you wish to make your own remixes? ;)

Hi !
I found following item in Jonas Discog:
Hardfloor vs. Yello: Vicious Games 12" Germany 1998 (Orbit Records GmbH,
GG 007)
1.Vicious Games (Hardfloor remix)
2.Vicious Games (remixed by Boris Blank and Olaf Wollschlaeger)
3.Vicious Games (Vorsprung durch Technik Remix)
Has anybody heard about this remixes - are they worth buying, and where can
I get them ???

Generally I don't like so called DJ remixes (and Boris
told me he doesn't either) but since Boris has had a
part in this.... - I was told this 12" had sold quite well
in Germany and France, but it's not out on CD although
it might be at some point. Very hard to find outside of
Germany.... (but then again as Yello fans we are getting
used to limited vinyl, aren't we?) JW

I agree with you, Alan! I just labelled that email "Bonkers" shortly before I
deleted it, but there again, it's a bit like train spotting. If he's doing no
harm, let him get on with it.
In reply to your quote:-

Surely the answer would be that if you ad everything, surely you would also
have some nice big storgae units from Ikea to put it all in.

Dave G.

Well thank you!! |-)
David Mayer got it right. The cataloging is done song by song. When we have
everything in parts --- perhaps 100 files per song --- we could make the
same melodies and effects ourself without the background sounds. Then we just
build up the song again or make a new mix. We could also make a mix of two
or more songs by picking up the best parts of the songs.
Perhaps "cataloging" is a slightly wrong word for this project.
I suspect we could steal some sounds and loops directly from the records
but due complexity of Yello songs we have to make most of the sounds and
all of the vocals ourself. Additionally we could use both the How How/Breaks,
Beats & Loops and the Yello Soundstation sample collections.
A side note: if you think cataloging is impossible, then how Boris do it?
Yours,
Juhana

How about a list/catalog of sound effects with a description of how Boris
created each one? Like the snowball on the wall, ripping up the sealant,
distorting the lion's roar... A lot of that will probably be in Jonas'
book, but it would still make for some interesting reading/listening.. :)
