A few games ago the front office did a promotion and actually handed out
white Grizzly t-shirts to the first 2000 (not sure on the number) people
in the arena. We've also tried to do a poster night and got nothing
from that. I think it would be totally cool to do something whether
it's a white-out, waving something, posters, cowbells, fish, whatever.
The problem is getting the other 9950 fans to be enthusiastic about
anything.

Maybe someone in the Grizz front office could help spread the word for
the
White-Out. After all there is only a handful of fans on the list.

Ice Dogs goalie draws suspension after spearing fan
April 28, 2000
BY LEN ZIEHM STAFF REPORTER
Long Beach Ice Dogs goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin was suspended
indefinitely by the International Hockey League on Thursday after an
incident with a fan Wednesday night at Allstate Arena.
According to a Rosemont Police report, Khabibulin speared a fan,
identified as Kevin Cathelyn of Briarwood, with his hockey stick after
the
Wolves' 3-1 victory over the Ice Dogs in the opener of a second-round
playoff series.
Cathelyn was standing along the rail on the south side of the
tunnel
area as the teams headed for their dressing rooms, police said. Gary
Como,
an IHL supervisor of officials, saw the incident.
Officers interviewed Khabibulin in the Long Beach coach's office
and
said he admitted striking the fan with his stick.
Khabibulin told police he saw something in the victim's hand and
was
defending himself.
Como told police he did not see any object thrown in
Khabibulin's
direction.
Mark Graf, an off-duty police officer working security, also saw
the
incident and said he didn't see anything that would have posed a threat
to
Khabibulin.
Cathelyn sustained a minor injury to his right inner thigh and
refused
medical treatment, police said. He refused to sign a complaint for
battery.
Khabibulin, an NHL All-Star with the Phoenix Coyotes last season,
took
a big pay cut to play for the Ice Dogs this season after he couldn't
reach a
contract agreement with the Coyotes. Though he played only half the
IHL
season, Khabibulin was named the league's co-Most Valuable Player
Thursday
with Houston Aeros goalie Frederic Chabot.
Bob McCammon, the IHL vice president of hockey operations,
ordered
Khabibulin's suspension pending further review. The Wolves and Ice Dogs
play
Game 2 of their series tonight.
With Khabibulin out, the Ice Dogs likely will start Mike O'Neill
in
goal. He led them to the Turner Cup finals in 1997 but played in only
25
games this season, the last on Jan. 25.
Khabibulin was 21-11-1 in the regular season and was in the nets
for
both of Long Beach's first-round victories over the Manitoba Moose.

That's a great idea but who's going to buy them? If those of us
actually committed to doing something (50, maybe) go out and buy a few
that still doesn't amount to much in an arena. We need to have a way to
get 10,000 of them so everyone in the arena has one. I don't have the

The reason you get your Booster Club newsletter in the mail at the end
of the month is because you have the whole beginning of the month to
pick it up at the Booster Club Booth. Newsletters are ALWAYS ready the
first game of the month at the Booster Club Booth. You really have no
excuse to say you didn't know that because it's been published in the
newsletter. I know because I write it. As far as radio announcements,
Kandi has made several announcements on KBER 101and Hot 94.9 throughout
the season for events that the BC Sponsors. The other things you
suggest require $$ which we don't have. That is one of the reasons we
encourage you to pick up your newsletter at the BC Booth. You get your
info on time and we save postage money that can be used for the things
you suggest.
I'm all for getting people on the bandwagon but we can't do this stuff
for free. It sounds like you have a lot of good ideas. Why didn't you
run for BC Office?

Been away from the list for some time and wondered if anyone out there could let
me have some info on the whereabouts of two Grizz fans who kindly sent me both a
video of MacWilliam fights and the Grizz back to back Turner Cup wins video.
I think one of the guys was Frank Liebmann ? the other was Kevin Curtis. I never
got replying to them and to thank them for sending the stuff.
If anyone knows of their whereabouts I'd love to get in touch and send them some
stuff by way of a thank you as I lost all my addresses.
Good luck to the guys tonight....
I will be rooting for the Grizz.

Last time I checked they were still available in the Team shop. If no one =

people? How about radio station announcements in addition to the =
ever-popular Maverick promotion? How about actual repeat announcements at =
games? It's just not that difficult to get the word out, but I have yet =
to see it done properly around here.

I'm all for getting people on the bandwagon but we can't do this stuff
for free. It sounds like you have a lot of good ideas. Why didn't you
run for BC Office?

There are two major problems that I can see with trying to do
promotions here in this area:
1) There are so few real hockey fans around here (not just
free-ticket-one-gamers who have no idea what's going on on the ice) who
would care; and=20
2) I have yet to see an acceptable means of getting announcements like
this out to this Utah crowd. Forgive me, because I'm new this year, and
in the beginning tried to get really involved, because that's what we're
accustomed to doing. =20
We joined the Booster Club - and, please, NO OFFENSE to anyone reading
this who may be running the Booster Club, but one example is: yesterday
we received the latest Booster Club newsletter (postmarked April 25th)
which "announced" the Players' Banquet (held April 17th), how to vote
for your "Fan Favorite" player (which was completed even before the
banquet), and other "late-breaking news" of which most was over 3 weeks
ago! What is that?! I could care less about the money that we paid to
join; but the point is it seems like no one has thought of a good way to
announce promotions and crowd involvement activities! Doesn't the
Booster Club, or someone else reading this list, have any pull at all
with the Grizz PR people? How about radio station announcements in
addition to the ever-popular Maverick promotion? How about actual
repeat announcements at games? It's just not that difficult to get the
word out, but I have yet to see it done properly around here.
Just my opinion...

A few games ago the front office did a promotion and actually handed
out
white Grizzly t-shirts to the first 2000 (not sure on the number)
people
in the arena. We've also tried to do a poster night and got nothing
from that. I think it would be totally cool to do something whether
it's a white-out, waving something, posters, cowbells, fish, whatever.
The problem is getting the other 9950 fans to be enthusiastic about
anything. =20

Maybe someone in the Grizz front office could help spread the word for
the=20
White-Out. After all there is only a handful of fans on the list.
