Deseret News special
CHICAGO =E2=80=94 Ian Gordon took a beating from the Chicago Wolves Sa=
turday=20
night, but in the end, it was his play that led the Utah Grizzlies to a 4-3=20
victory.
Gordon was shoved, slashed in the head and smashed into by one Wolf in=
=20
particular =E2=80=94 Steve Larouche. The worst was a hit that led to a goal=20=
by Chris=20
Marinucci, who finished with a hat trick.
It tied the game at 3-3 and meant a shootout would decide the winner.
It hardly seemed fair that the man who'd taken so much abuse, and save=
d=20
45 of 48 shots, would now face down the best Chicago shooters alone. Justice=
=20
laced with a little revenge, however, was in store for Gordon. After John=20
Purves put the first shot in the net for the Grizzlies, Gordon denied none=20
other than Larouche. That save set the tone as Gordon denied four Wolves in=20=
a=20
row to end the shootout early, thanks to a goal by Richard Park.

The game ROCKED! Kristi & I caught it & we were screaming at the tv! (i
know weirdo's) The wolves were taking way too much liberty with Ian.
That slash on the helmet was bad but when Larouche bowled him over &
Marinucci got a goal to make a hat trick that was just CRAP! Well Ian
sure showed him huh! Way to go!
Kristi & I also thought we heard Ian Furness call Ian Gordan "I-Gor"
that really works, kinda like "Cu-Jo" for Curtis Joseph. I know we are a
little slow but the "I-Gor" thing never crossed our minds before!
See you all at the game on Friday!

I thought Anderson let the game get out of hand the first time Gordon
made a save and had a Chicago guy on top of him with no call. It seemed
after that Chicago had the attitude that he didn't call it to begin with
so it was okay to beat the crap out of our goaltender. Can you turn in
tapes of that Larouche guy for the slash/elbow incidents during the
game? That third goal never should've counted.
What a physical game! That collarbone shot Wendell Young took looked
nasty. After all the turmoil in the NHL about taking shots off the
throat I was worried. Did everyone see the chunk the puck took off his
mask?
All I can say is having 3 defensemen gone or injured and relying on
some guys from the ECHL/WCHL for defense, we looked pretty good.
Ian Gordon is THE MAN! Way to stand tall.

Hope everyone was able to catch the game on WB30 last night. Looked
like Chicago was taking quite a few liberties with Ian Gordon. I think
Vukota and Penn should have had a talk with a couple of those Wolf boys.
Come on GrizzFans let's don't let this list die, I know there are more
than two or three people on this list. Some of our guy's do have
computers and I'm sure they monitor this list (I know the Coach does) so
let's show them that we are behind them by talking it up a bit.
Keep it up Grizz, The cup is on it's way home.

Whatcha Gonna Do When Grizzliemania Runs Wild On You??
Grizzlies Survive Hat Trick, Shootout To Beat the Wolves, Cling to
First Place
SALT LAKE TRIBUNE
A Chris Marinucci hat trick and 45 Chicago shots were not enough to
beat the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont,
Ill.
Richard Park scored twice and Ian Gordon made 42 regulation saves
as the Grizzlies beat the Wolves 4-3 in a shootout.
Utah got goals from John Purves and Park in the one-on-one
exhibition the IHL uses to break ties, and Gordon stopped all four
Wolves shooters he faced to give the Grizzlies a 3-2 record on their
current six-game road trip.
Utah remains in first place in the Western Conference and is tied
with Orlando for the league lead with 71 points. The Grizzlies got a
rare two-game road sweep against the Wolves (29-16-7).
Utah has one more road game in Kansas City on Wednesday before
returning to the E Center Friday to host the Blades.
The Grizzlies played their sixth game in eight nights Saturday.
Marinucci, a former Utah player, scored all three Chicago goals,
marking his second hat trick of the season against the Grizzlies.
Marinucci has eight goals and 14 points in seven games against Utah. But
his exploits were not enough Saturday.
Gordon has played the last six games for the Grizzlies and had
every reason to be tired. Instead, the Utah goalie shrugged off a
physical game and 42 shots to earn his 14th win.
"We didn't anticipate that Ian would play all these games," Utah
Coach Bob Bourne said. "He has been a real war horse for us. I'm really
happy to see him playing so well."
Gordon was called in to replace Corey Hirsch early in Friday's 4-3
win over the Wolves. Hirsch will likely miss Wednesday's game because of
back spasms, but he could be back in front of the Utah nets in Friday's
home game.
Utah fired 36 shots at Chicago goalie Wendell Young, and the teams
combined for an amazing 84 shots. Two Utah power-play goals proved to be
the difference.

Actually the thing with the playing The Rock's theme song came because of
Richard. The team was in Cleveland in early January and they played the song in
the arena. The players all thought was great and the Park went and scored right
afterwards. The Same thing happened the next night, song comes on Richard
scores. So we went and got a copy of the sing had put it on our in-arena play

Subject: [UG] a funny thing happened at the puck...
was anyone else at the puck watching the game on
saturday? this will be of interest to you guys that work
in the grizz office, maybe you should pass this around to
the "higher ups" and see if they can get anything done
about this...
(sorry it's quite lengthy)
a group of us went to the puck on Saturday specifically
to watch the grizz game. we called them before to make
sure it would be on. we get to the puck, and it is on.
however, there is no sound. so we ask our the guy at the
front desk if there was any way to turn on the sound to
the game. he said sure, and went to pass along our
request. some other guy came over and informed us that
they were unable to turn up the sound, due to the fact
that the owner only allowed the sound to be turned up for
jazz games. way wrong thing to say to 4 grizz fans.
well, we get all worked up over it and sit and discuss it
with him. we understood that it was not his decision,
and accept that we have to watch the game and read lips.
we asked for the name of the owner (john prince) so we
could all right letters, voicing our concern for not
allowing a grizz game to not be viewed with sound.
about ten minutes later, a group of people walk in. the
guy at the front comes over and tells us that we won't
need to be writing our letters, because the owner just
walked in. all right. here's our chance to let the
owner know what kind of message he is sending to hockey
fans.
we all walk over to the mr prince and introduce
ourselves. we explain our reason for being at his
establishment and plead our case for why we think the
grizz game should be turned up. immediately, he went on
the defensive, in the best interest of his patrons who
aren't interested in hockey. he explained "in terms that
you might understand" (hello, we aren't 4), why he had
made the decision regarding the volume of televised
sports. he said they turn the volume up for not only for
jazz games, but other sports as well, including some
boxing match the previous night. they take into
consideration of the crowd that is there and what might
be of interest to them. i explained, what better time to
let the grizz game be heard, when it is one of a few away
games that are actually televised, and the sole reason
for us coming to the puck. pointing out that it is the
team that plays next door to his establishment.
remember, the entire time we are discussing this, he is
facing the huge screen that has the game going. he blew
some more smoke and told us some more things "in terms we
might understand" and stood by his decision. we talked
for about 10 minutes. something exciting happened on the
tv, and someone at the bar happened to react. this
caught mr. prince's attention. he looked up and the tv
and realized it was indeed a grizz game. yeah, that's
what we were trying to tell him in the first place but he
obviously wasn't listening. well, he all of the sudden
changed his tune, saying, well i didn't know it was a
grizz game! so he shuffled us back to our table and said
he would go turn the sound up right away.
so we triumphantly head back to our table and watch as
mr. prince goes to talk to the manager. they have to
discuss it for another 10 minutes. he comes back to our
table, and tells us that as owner, he has no pull. the
manager stated that he had looked around the place and
all the people at the bar were not interested in the
game, and if he turn the music off and put the game on,
they may not like it. so they can't justify turning on
the sound since we are the only ones in the whole place
that showed any interest in the game. he did say they
could move us upstairs and turn up one of the small tvs
up. so we take all our stuff and head upstairs. we
got put into a corner and put us under a regular tv with
the volume up, however, the music was overpowering and we
heard about 1% of what was being said.
i'm not trying to be bad mouth mr. prince or his
establishment, however, i think grizz fans should know
what happened. the puck, so named for the sport of ice
hockey, which has grizzly items hanging all over the
place, won't let grizzly games be heard.
thanks for letting me ramble!
