I have debated how best to reply to this, as I doubt how productive the above
is and why all of trektrade should be chastised for a person's opinions that
should be expressed to individuals.
First, it is true that there are cases where the MB could be questioned. (Not
my Auuctionne alone, heck look at the Ebay TOS II Uhura with an starting MB of
$135 , reserve not yet met!!!)
But, I think there is issues here beyond just people needing to get a life.
This is a small auctionne, I don't profess to compete with the audience of Ebay
or whatever, but I have fun doing it and encouraging it along. Reality is
without a good and large and constant audience support, an auctionne can't
support low MB's.. There is a good risk of it only being a one bid auctionne
and as a consignor, alot of people can't afford to offer up isenrts to be sold
at only $1. Most of the consignors(not all) are regular collectors, not
dealers. They likely paid a fair price for the card and need to be gauranteed a
certain price to make it worth their while to offer it. You as a bidder may
want good deals, hey, who doesn't? But, there won't be any consignor's to offer
goodies, if they feel they stand to lose.
Auctions ahve changed alot, I think there has been a shift from customers
finding awesome deals to seller's hoping to make a good deal. One must pick and
chose what one will bid on.
As for selling vs auctionning, again, true, ther are situations where things
would be more suited to selling, but I am sure from the consignor's point of
view, if they get one bid at $5, they're happy. MAybe they could take it before
the newsgroups and sell for $5 as well, but the auctionne may provide them a
secure means to deal, with a built in audience, a group of people with similar
likes, a commumity feel, the idea that if things go awry in the deal, they
have the assistance of the auctionner to help them, that likely if people
participate, they are dedicated and less likely to rip them off......So, I cant
blame them for wanting to 'auctionne'/sell that way. I tried to set up a
seperate sale site, connected to the auctionne, but it never took off.
Partially cause I was too busy at the time to support it.
If someone is consistantly offering items at silly prices...they won't sell,
and they will either stop offering or learn to adjust their items properly.
You are right, I am not going to go to a consignor and say...ya know that
price...it's kinda high...and I stil won't....but there has to be a better
solution then a public (or even private) berating of people when we don't know
where they are coming from.

I should PS my statements with saying, Vince is my friend and still will
be when I get done sulking. We just don't always agree.....which is ok,
it happens in the real world sometimes. I don't mean or want it to be
some sort of flame war, I am always wanting to hear people's opinions.
(Vince will just have to pay more dearly for his is all)
