Just cause nobody chats here in like FOREVER and I'm lonely..I'm
gonna start a chat just for the heck of it...
I was reading a thread on the newsgroups...that Ebay closes
auctionnes if you try to sell more then one item on one
listing..In other words I have all the foils..I sell one at .50
cents and say YOUR CHOICE..and at the end I say you can have as
many as you want at the .50 cents final fee..Ebay of course loses
out on all the listing fees and final value fees if you listed
them separately...
First of all I didn't think they had time to CARE...but having
said that, what do you think? In theory, people could do that in
my auctionne and I assume have done so, but it never occurred to
me to care and now that I have thought about it, I decided I
still don't care....
Should I...;) am I missing the chance to be rich!!!!!

I didn't know that, and frankly I think it's quite petty. On the rare
occasion that I sell something, I often contact the runner-up to see if
they want the item too. And I don't feel guilty about that either.

I agree, I can't imagine that the ill will and hassles following
up on this could possibly be worth the extra fees they think they
can get. I am not saying I don't like generating auctionne fees,
but it's not the point nor the most important reason for the
auctionne, though for us it's a hobby and for ebay it's a
business, I guess.

That's true but part of operating a good business is building up customer
loyalty and satisfaction. This would only alienate people. They're one
of the very few internet companies making any money, and quite a lot, so
quite how losing out on 25 cents for a card is going to hurt them, I'm not
sure.
Incidentally I went to see Miss Congeniality last night and thought
William Shatner was great ... not sure it could be classed as work for him
though.

When you're the only game in town, customer loyalty and
satisfaction don't matter. I mean you can SAY it matters, but
does it? Where else are you gonna go? I mean April Fool's gag
aside (for those who get the auctionne listing), I'm not stupid,
my site's no ebay. For the population at large, the only serious
game in town is ebay. Like it or lump it and live by the rules
they set (not that I AGREE, it's just that's what I think is
reality). They don't have to make us happy.
Maybe I'm too cynical...;)

I think you are being too cynical. Sure they're the best game in town at
the moment, but nobody can predict the future. If things change they need
people to WANT to stay with them. Keeping people happy is not a
charitable gesture but a business move.

I don't know if you've tried using Intergalactic's website to order stuff,
but I have to say I'm less than impressed. Putting the poor interface to
one side, they charge a set fee for postage. This was about forty dollars
for five cards because they were not cheap ones. When I declined on that
basis, they offered me only 20 dollars for postage. Hardly cheap but I
went ahead anyway. Unfortunately this was now the next day, and the
prices of some of the cards had doubled. Example: Skymotion cards were
now fifty dollars instead of twenty five, so needless to say I've dropped
the idea again.

OK, then I'm confused...:) I agree with ya! I think that you have
to balance your rules/policies/whatever need for fees you have
with providing a place where clients WANT to be, where they think
you want THEM and not just their fees. Lording over them and
closing auctionnes cause you think they are cheating you out of
fees, is, in the long-run counterproductive.
Am I cynical cause I think Ebay isn't customer oriented enough?
If so, do tell me some happy Ebay stories!!!

I have been reluctant to deal with Intergalactic cause they
charge shipping based on value and not weight...interesting
concept, you could order a cheap box or two of cards and pay much
less postage then one autograph card (yes, I suppose you have to
take insurance into account, but it still seems like it works
more often against me ten for me) Still it used to be that some
things if you didn't get it form them, you just didn't get
it....the nets have made that better some.
Whatever would make a card double form one day to the next..esp
an older one that should have a value fairly established....

OK, I gotta question about Dutch auctionnes on Ebay..I list my
CDROM every once in awhile..now is this new or did I not notice
it the last few time, but it tried to charge me an insertion fee
for each item...I don't think I noticed it before...considering
when I list 25 or so, I may sell only a few, I ain't using no
dutch auctionne.....

I've used Dutch auctions on eBay a couple time in the past. They used to
only charge you 1 insertion fee for the listing but the sales fees were
charged on each item sold.

I'm glad to know it isn't something that's been going on for
awhile, I mean why ever use dutch? I'll just use buyitnow (until
they charge for it) and sell one at a time...

That just sounds like ripping off the seller. If they do that, why
would anybody want to sell via Dutch auction?

From eBay...
The Insertion Fee is based upon the opening value of the items you list for
sale. The opening value is the minimum bid multiplied by the quantity of
items you offer. The maximum insertion fee for any Dutch Auction is $3.30.

The quote from ebay that Jim lists is as I've always remembered it.
The multiply the value times the quantity, or that is how it was.
It is similar for reserve auctions. They don't charge the starting price,
but the reserve price for the insertion fee.

Subject: (TrekChat) NOT CARD RELATED POST
Date: 10 Apr 2001 13:26:51 -0400
So sue me..;) OK, I'll make it one...I WANNA AUTO CARD FROM THIS
SERIES>..;) I WANNA CAPTAIN"S UNIFORM CARD...
********
NY POST/By DON KAPLAN
TV veteran Scott Bakula is in talks to take the helm of the
latest "Star Trek" series, according to a devoted "Trekker" Web
site.
Bakula, best known for playing Dr. Sam Beckett on NBC's popular
time-travel series, "Quantum Leap," is negotiating to play
Jackson Archer, the headstrong captain of the newest "Trek"
starship, reports trektoday.com.
The "Trek" role could catapult Bakula into cult status, as he
would be
following in the footsteps of other popular "Trek" Captains,
William Shatner (James T. Kirk, "Star Trek"), Patrick Stewart
(Jean-Luc Picard, "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), Avery Brooks
(Benjamin Sisko, "Deep Space Nine") and Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn
Janeway, "Voyager").
Bakula's reps declined to comment yesterday.
Like other "Star Trek" projects in development, details about the
new show are shrouded in secrecy. But Captain Archer - according
to a casting sheet for the new show - is a physical, intensely
curious captain with a bold personality.
The latest "Trek" show is said to take place many years before
all four other series, when the show's stars and their spaceships
did not yet resemble high-tech, space-bound versions of "The Love
Boat."
*************
From what i hear this is like WAY a rumor, but I want it said, I
will D I E if true, I'd leave my husband for Scott Bakula!

I found a cool item on ebay yesterday..a Star Trek credit card
from Scottland, I've known about it and always wanted one (yeah,
I collect Trek credit cards!!!), so I placed a fat bid and went
to bed, only to be outbid..I was blue...James, the sweet boy,
said the price I selected as my max wasn't high enough for
something I really wanted and hadn't seen (he's SUCH an enabler),
I happened to glance at the winner's other auctionnes only to
discover he collects credit cards (rather then trek) and his last
win was for a credit card he paid $1100 for....me thinks I
couldn't have out bid him...;)
Still, now I've got the urge to FIND SOMETHING and bid on
it....;)
