  370. Does anyone have Star Trek: The Next Generation Bloopers out there 
  371. (store-bought., bootlegged, home-made, etc...).  The only ones I've ever 
  372. found were on Levar Burton's "Reading Rainbow" special, and they only 
  373. had 3 or so. If anyone has a tape of TNG bloopers, email me the length

  461. diameter, and in gold printing, it says "Star Trek: The Motion Picture
  462. 1979" and also has a little picture of the Enterprise.

  465. it part of a larger set, how much is it worth, etc?

  507. I have 2 similar marbles, except mine are black (maybe EXTREMELY dark
  508. blue?) and they are part of a 3-marble set.  The other 2 are white and have
  509. images of Kirk and Spock with their names on them.  The images and names
  510. are done in black.  I got mine from eBay (one set as a set, the other as 3
  511. separate marbles) and have seen them sell for all kinds of prices; anywhere
  512. from $10 - 12 per set up to over $20 just for the black one.  I don't see
  513. them in any of my price guides (Greenberg's, House of Collectibles, The
  514. Official Guide and Trekkers Guide), so this is the only info I can give
  515. you.  Never heard of/saw them before, but there seem to be many available
  516. on eBay.

  666.     No.  Tried to pull it together, but a couple of signers didn't
  667. get their materials to us in time.  Would have been  nice, though.  I
  668. wanted to frame all three sheets together.

  670.     About the same quantity as Shatner.
  671.  4. How many autograph cards did Brent Spiner sign for Insurrection?
  672.     Less than 1,000.

  675.     Not yet, but stay tuned.  Keep in mind that these kinds of
  676. cards are produced at the request of Playmates, etc.  We do not make
  677. the decision, so if they don't want them, there's nothing I can do

  681.  stars in TOS Season Three?
  682.     Only France Nuyen.  Bad story behind this one.  Believe me, I
  683. tried...and tried...and tried.  No use.  Some people don't understand
  684. what we're doing and are afraid to commit.
  685.  7.  I would like to see more TOS cards after Season Three.  How
  686.  about an  entire set on Star Trek's pilot, "The Cage?"  Or, a
  687. "behind-the-scenes" set
  688.  on TOS, showing rare production photos, costumes, props, spaceship
  689.  models, etc.
  690.     The rare materials are largely unavailable.  Fear not,
  691. however, as we will continue with more TOS sets.  I've never been at a
  692. loss for product ideas, and I don't expect to let a good thing slip
  693. away.  I love TOS, and the fans have really embraced the sets we have
  694. made over the past year.  No reason to stop at TOS 3.  Just need to be
  695. a little more creative with the subject matter.

  697.  8. Pick you one most favorite Trek card!
  698.     I've got a few.  The card of McCoy from TOS I (City on the
  699. Edge of Forever) which shows him with his mouth open (deranged) and
  700. the card of Spock screaming (Devil in the Dark) are among my
  701. favorites.  Susan Oliver as the Orion slave girl doing her dance (who
  702. doesn't like that one?).  In general, though, I am most proud of the
  703. entire collection of 85 autographed cards.  People have no idea how
  704. difficult (and enjoyable) it was to assemble all of these.  When I
  705. look back on my work on Star Trek, I think that is the most gratifying
  706. aspect of all.

  708.  9. Can you give us a sneak peek at plans for Season VII and DS9 due out
  709.  later this year?

  711. DS9 will commemorate the 99 greatest moments in the show's 7-year
  712. history, and will give you (the fans) an opportunity to vote for the
  713. top 9 moments of all time.  There will also be autographs (one per
  714. box).  TNG VII will follow the same basic pattern as the previous TNG
  715. sets, but the chase cards will be a little different (no specfics
  716. yet).  Also an autograph in every box.

  718.  10.  Comment for Steve:  Skybox' collation problems with its "guaranteed=
  719. "
  720.  autograph cards is frustrating.  I had an autograph card missing
  721.  from TOS Season Two and Voyager Profiles.  I had to spend more money to =
  722. get
  723.  the "make-good" from Skybox (i.e., mailing box to Skybox, certified mail
  724. fee,
  725.  return- receipt fee, etc.).  This doesn't seem fair.  I also have to won=
  726. der
  727.  if I lost  a possibility to get a "rare" autograph at random in my
  728. purchased
  729. box by having to get one through a make-good (i.e., I feel I got gypped
  730.  with the  least interesting autograph cards through your "make-good"
  731. program).
  732.  Also, my  Voyager Profiles "make-good" still hadn't arrived two months
  733. after I
  734.  sent the box (sent certified mail, return-receipt).  I had to ask a seco=
  735. nd
  736. time to get the make-good!  These problems don't happen with other Trek
  737.  products...I've never had a Trek action figure missing a phaser accessor=
  738. y!
  739. At any
  740.  rate, I must say that these problems are adding to my fading interest in
  741.  collecting  Trek trading cards.  In any case, your TOS cards have been y=
  742. our
  743. best
  744.  product to date, by far.
  745.  
  746. Thanks for the comment, although I am sorry (really, I am)
  747. about collation.  This has been a major source of frustration for me
  748. as well.  I only suggest to people to contact me if they are having a
  749. particularly difficult time with one of our products.  Remember,
  750. though, that there are a lot of unscrupulous people who pretend that
  751. they don't get cards and are looking for freebies (you know who you
  752. are and, for the most part, so do I).  I try to personally help out
  753. whenever possible, but I  ask that collectors only contact me if their
  754. problems are legitimate and solutions are manageable (i.e. don't tell
  755. me that you bought 10 cases and are missing 50 autographed cards).
  756.  
  757.     Hope this helps.  I really like these kinds of exchanges of
  758. ideas and questions from collectors.  1999 should be another great
  759. year for Trek cards.  I am very optimistic.  Also, if people have
  760. specific product ideas they want to see incorporated into our
  761. products, I do listen and encourage the input.  What I do is for the
  762. fans, and as long as the fans are happy, we stay in business (not the
  763. other way around).

  974. Decipher site for all to see - but one of the hottest topics related to t=

  1043. alternate universe characters, they usually have a title, or some other
  1044. modifier to distinguish them from the normal-universe version of the
  1045. characters in their own time frame. Should we at some point in the future
  1046. gain the licensing rights to any property that would have Kirk in his pro=
  1047. per
  1048. time frame, we would want to save the James T. Kirk monicker for that car=
  1049. d.

  1051. Q: Some people have noticed the original series Star Trek Logo mention in
  1052. The Dominion rules... was this planned as a hint at things to come?
  1053. Ellington: It was just a timing issue... the rules were posted before the
  1054. Preview Cards' release... for those with a nose for details, the original
  1055. series logo did hint at an original series-related card.

  1059. We can't yet show the card...but with The Dominion expansion coming soon
  1060. (January 20), it won't be long before the 130 black-border cards of the

  1536. Skybox seems to be constantly patting itself on the back for its products. 
  1537. To be fair, TOS Seasons 1 -3 are the best card products I've seen.  But 
  1538. surely it's not just a case of producing nice and rare cards?
  1539.  
  1540. Most collectors want to see their collections appreciate in value as well 
  1541. as enjoying them.  That will only happen if their is market demand.  
  1542. By producing all these rare cards, the vast majority of people will not 
  1543. be able to afford everything - either because they're not rich enough or 
  1544. they're too sensible - and simply give up.  That's exactly what happened 
  1545. with Playmates and I know it's beginning to happen with Skybox.
  1546.  
  1547. I could easily produce a desirable card.  Get Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley to 
  1548. sign one card and limit it to fifty worldwide.  Superb if you can afford 
  1549. it but not much help to the mass market.

  1552. Fortunately I didn't collect the Insurrection set, but from what I heard 
  1553. some of those autograph cards were utter rubbish.  Who really wants a card

  1599. Do a degree it is, though if there is another way to spark interest, our
  1600. pocketbooks would thank the inventor to let us know what it is! I keep
  1601. coming back the  same example and don't' want to sound like a broken record,
  1602. but sets easy to afford and put together didn't sell well(from Sybox's
  1603. perspective). The sales of the later Episode Series cards went into such a
  1604. downhill slide, it's dramatic and could have easily ended the Trekcard line.
  1605. Box prices are at major blow-out prices for episodes series, Voyager etc.
  1606. With the institution of the autographs and rarer card, Skybox is sold out
  1607. months in advance. Rare cards could be balanced off with creative cards,
  1608. granted and perhaps sell as well and fun cheap cars are cool by me, but I
  1609. think it is difficult for Skybox to say they are doing it wrong when we are
  1610. buying the stuff out.

  1612. We the devoted collector don't need bells and whistles to buy sets, we buy
  1613. them cause we like card collecting and trek. But, the reality is we are not
  1614. a large enough group to support Skybox. Attracting a larger fan base is
  1615. needed. And that's where the bells and whistles come in. Now, I am not sure
  1616. that I personally can say my sales reflect a larger audience, what I have
  1617. seen mostly is my same customer's buying ooodles more product, but I do
  1618. believe regardless that there is a large audience as well buying cards.

  1663. non-sport world, I do not believe a long term run of expensive cards will
  1664. work. We can not maintain this level of intensity for long. And Skybox has
  1665. to find a way to make fun, affordable sets, but I think what they have done

  1759. idea from tv the other day with a news report about the Hubbard Lemon Awards
  1760. given to advertiser's who show false, misleading or improper advertising. It
  1761. was interesting to see.

  1779. cards up there with a Leaf single or Spiner FC auto? I don't believe the
  1780. right to sell one's merchandise gives anybody the right to warp the facts
  1781. soooo bad. Consumer's need to beware as well and research their purchases,
  1782. but honorable reporting is sorta nice, too. As some know, I don't allow
  1783. 'emotional' descriptions on the Auctionne, does this bother anyone else but
  1784. me or am I annoyed for no reason?

  1846. Do we want easy to complete (or should I say buy) sets with no value?

  1848. Do we want sets with some of the chase cards being rarer and therefore more
  1849. desirable (collectible) and more valuable?

  1851. Personally I'll take the second option.  I collect Star Trek cards mostly
  1852. because I enjoy it, but also because of the challenge of completing my
  1853. sets. I also expect my investment to not be worth the same as a pile of
  1854. scrap paper when I'm done. We can't have it both easy and valuable.  To
  1855. have/keep value there has to be a demand for the product.  If Fleer/Skybox
  1856. produces enough of every card, so that anybody who wants to can easily
  1857. complete a full set, then there is not going to be any demand and therefore
  1858. no value.
  1859.  
  1860. We are no longer in the collecting days when kids purchased a few packs at
  1861. the local candy store and then traded to complete their sets or to get
  1862. their favorite player.  What happened to the enjoyment that we used to get
  1863. by making friends, trading cards and that final exhilaration of finally
  1864. completing our set or getting that one card of our favorite player/actor? 
  1865.  
  1866. Everything nowadays is based upon instant gratification and if we don't get
  1867. that we're not happy?  I say it's time to quit seeing the glass half empty,
  1868. time to be happy for that part of a set we can complete, time to be happier
  1869. when we find a great deal or make a great trade for a missing card, time to
  1870. be happy for those who get lucky and find or can afford those rare cards we
  1871. can't, time to quit feeling sorry for ourselves because we can't have it
  1872. all right now!
  1873.  
  1874. When it comes down to it, we're all just a bunch of spoiled brats
  1875. complaining about a few cards we don't have instead of being happy about
  1876. the hundreds of cards that we do have.  
  1877.  
  1878. I've gone through the cycle of want want want with my card collecting and
  1879. of being unhappy not being able to get every card that's been produced.
  1880. But I finally realized that I could never afford everything and that was
  1881. OK. I still don't have a Brent Spinner auto, most the Mirror/Mirror cards
  1882. and some of the rare promo cards and yet if I take the time to look at the
  1883. basic sets I do have I realize that their complete.  Yes it's nice to have
  1884. all the additional chase cards, but it would also be nice to have Ed
  1885. McMahon come visit me, it just ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

  2301. I am sorry to report that Steve Charendoff has resigned effective
  2302. immediately as the Entertainment Director of Skybox. I regret this on a
  2303. couple of different levels. First (said in jest), he never sent me the TO=

  2306. Secondly, there are no doubts varying opinions on where the Trek card lin=

  2308. was at, with the rare cards, the auto cards and all that, but I do believ=

  2310. that the card line has been energized since he took over the line. The ca=

  2312. look pretty, each set is unique, dealer and collector enthusiasm was high=

  2314. have made no bones about enjoying my collecting addiction the last few

  2726. which I considered to be damaging the market.  After considering the 
  2727. response from Lynne and Jim, I think I was wrong.

  2729. The thing that has changed my mind is Lynne's statement that the previous 
  2730. cheaper Trek cards were not popular.  I assumed the case was similar to 
  2731. Playmates, where a popular market based on cheap figures was destroyed by 
  2732. a few rare and expensive figures.  But obviously if in Skybox's case the 
  2733. original market was not buoyant then there is nothing to destroy.
  2734.  
  2735. I always said the newer cards eg TOS1-3, were the best Trek cards 
  2736. produced.  My concern was that collectors were being put off but in 
  2737. reality it seems more were being put on.  I think some of my concerns 
  2738. remain justified - some autograph cards which are of nobodies - but 
  2739. overall I'm pleased to say (I think) I was wrong.

  2770. any job, two weeks notice was offered. TOS III and even DS9 Profiles were

  2784. The thing that has changed my mind is Lynne's statement that the previous
  2785. cheaper Trek cards were not popular.  I assumed the case was similar to
  2786. Playmates, where a popular market based on cheap figures was destroyed by
  2787. a few rare and expensive figures.  But obviously if in Skybox's case the
  2788. original market was not buoyant then there is nothing to destroy.
  2789.  
  2790.  
  2791. There's the rub and a point I think needs to be mentioned, we were given an
  2792. extension, a fresh and new start. These sets wouldn't exist if there hadn't
  2793. been some radical changes. It's true, you can blow up a product easily
  2794. enough, but in this case some jolt of electricity was needed. Where we go
  2795. now is important, though. $3000 sets can't last forever....
  2796.  
  2797. I always said the newer cards eg TOS1-3, were the best Trek cards
  2798. produced.  My concern was that collectors were being put off but in
  2799. reality it seems more were being put on.  I think some of my concerns
  2800. remain justified - some autograph cards which are of nobodies - but
  2801. overall I'm pleased to say (I think) I was wrong.
  2802.  
  2803. I think now would be a good time to let Skybox know what we think about
  2804. anything and everything. Obviously, they will be a crossroads for awhile
  2805. until they get new direction. Hit 'e fast, hit 'em hard.....
