Subject: (sage-news) How to determine if your mold is adequate.
Date: 05 Oct 1999 13:54:47 -0600
We are often asked how to determine if the mold is large enough or
too small. These are some easy guidelines to follow. Maybe one
day Dirk will finish a "Mold Calculator". Hint, hint!
Each pound of fat needs a mold that allows for 3-1/2 cups of
volume. Test the mold with water to determine the amount
of volume your mold will hold.
If you prefer the cubic inches route then allow 35 cubic inches
for each lb of fat.
Best!

Subject: (sage-news) New Product - Impulse Sealer
Date: 19 Oct 1999 11:21:26 -0600
An impulse sealer is used to close the edge of a bag
to correctly size for the product which it contains before
heat shrinking the bag. We recommend this for the 6X6
bags we carry. Cutters are recommended when trying to
size a bag which is too large for the item or when using
shrink tubing.

Subject: (sage-news) Recipes Anyone??
Date: 22 Oct 1999 16:43:14 -0600
Hello Everyone-
I wanted to share two recipes that are big hits around the MMS warehouse.
We even have all the handsome boys in the consulting office next door
hooked and now some of us even get to park on the front row closest to the
office at least once a week. <lol> Just imagine the unsuspecting friends,
family, and heaven forbid customers you could get hooked. Both of these
creams fit beautifully in our 8 ounce cosmetic jars. I like to use a drop
of colorant to create pastel colored creams and then put them in the
frosted jars. Simply gorgeous..
Minty Foot Cream-
.06 grams citric acid
6 grams glycerin
11 grams stearic acid
14 grams emulsifying wax
21 grams avocado
15 grams shea butter
9 grams lanolin
5 grams mango
150 grams distilled H20
Combine all ingredients in a microwave safe container or beaker and heat
until melted ( approximately 1-2 minutes on high) Then mix with your
immersion blender until you have created an emulsion. Add your
color...just a drop will do the trick. Give another quick mix, then add
your germaben II and your essential oils. Pour into your jar.
2.5 grams germaben II
.07 grams peppermint
.06 grams spearmint
You can increase the amount of eo slightly if you're only going to apply it
to your feet, but I like to use it as a body cream also, so I went a little
lighter. Remember to gently swish the cream around in the jar every once
in a while as it cools to keep it from seperating.
Supreme Hand Cream-
.06 grams citric acid
5 grams glycerin
12 grams emulsifying wax
10 grams stearic acid
28 grams avocado oil
10 grams lanolin
10 grams shea butter
206 grams distilled H20
2.5 grams Germaben II
.10 grams scent blend of your choice
Microwave, blend, add preservative and scent. This cream fits into the 8
ounce cosmetic jar with a little sample left over to keep for yourself..
Hope you enjoy these. You'll have them hooked before you know it. <g>

Subject: (sage-news) Recipe Update & Introduction
Date: 23 Oct 1999 23:48:04 -0600
Hello Everyone-
I just noticed that in the recipes I posted yesterday my fingers were
either a working faster than my brain or I was asleep. The correct amount
of essential oils for the Minty Foot Cream are as follows- 0.7 grams
peppermint essential oil
0.6 grams spearmint essential oil
Sorry, I don't know what I was thinking (obviously I wasn't) you'd have to
have one "superdooper" scale to weigh those first measurements.
Also, a few of you have e-mailed me asking if I would introduce myself on
the list. So here it goes. My name is Stephanie I live in beautiful
Northern Utah with my husband and 4 year old daughter. I have one laborador
retreiver and a cat with an attitude. I started assisting Tina & Dirk
about 6 months ago in hopes that they would be able to regain their
personal life (yes they use to have one). My responsibilities at MMS
include overseeing the soap list and sage-news, teaching a variety of
classes that MMS offers, recipe formulation, fragrance testing and helping
Tina answer the hundreds of e-mails we recieve on a daily basis, none of
which I can really call work. Oh yea.. I can't forget harassing Dirk. In
my spare time I enjoy gardening, biking, skiing, making soap & sundries and
I'm always up for a good barbeque and a bucket full of cold ones with
friends and family.
I can be reached at steph@the-sage.com - I always welcome any questions or
comments any of you might have. I've already had the opportunity to chat
with many of you and I look forward to meeting the rest of you.
Many thanks for letting me babble.
Steph
