Subject: RS: Humor -- ant & grasshopper

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's
a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.



ORIGINAL VERSION

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food
or
shelter so he dies out in the cold.

MODERN AMERICAN VERSION

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed
while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC and ABC show up to provide
pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to video of the ant in his
comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by
the
sharp contrast. How can it be that, in a country of such wealth, this
poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Then a representative of the
NAAGB (The national association of green bugs) shows up on Nightline and
charges the ant with "green bias," and makes the case that the
grasshopper is the victim of 30 million years of greenism. Kermit the
Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when he
sings "It's not easy being green." Bill and Hillary Clinton make a
special guest appearance on the CBS Evening News to tell a concerned Dan
Rather that they will do everything they can for the grasshopper who has
been denied the prosperity he deserves by those who benefited unfairly
during the Reagan summers, or as Bill refers to it, the "Temperatures of
the 80's." Richard Gephardt exclaims in an interview with Peter Jennings
that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and calls
for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."
Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Greenism Act,"
Retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing
to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to
pay his retroative taxes, his home is
confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to
represent
the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is
tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list
of
single-parent welfare moms who can only hear cases on Thursday's betwen
1:30 and 3pm when there are not talk shows scheduled. The ant loses the
case. The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last
bits
of the ant's food while the government house he's in, which just happens
to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him since he doesn't know how
to maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. And on the TV,
which
the grasshopper bought by selling most of the ant's food, they are
showing Bill Clinton standing before a wildly applauding group of
Democrats announcing that a new era of "fairness" has dawned in America.

1) Most people find acknowledging receipt of cards and posting of
descriptions a "unwelcome chore".

2) Most people like having their cards acknowledged and aren't fussy
about whether it's public praise or private commentary.

3) It's nice to put your e-mail address *legibly* on the cards or
accompanying documentation. Addresses without the ending .com, .net, or
.whatever create "bounces" and guessing games.

4) Addressing in metallic EP on dark envelopes will require hand-sorting
at *each* transfer point and may delay things considerably.

5) Kasmir paper is *neat stuff*, good both sides, not too shiny.

6) It's illegal to reuse postage stamps the P.O. has omitted cancelling
*for postage* ... but they're fair game for collage.

7) You can't always tell where a swap's from the hosting e-mail
address.  If the swap's "International", don't be afraid to ask the
hostess for alternate methods of financing the "return". Often something
can be worked out.

8) It's not a bad idea to put everything inside the envelope in a baggie
(plastic bag), better safe than *very* sorry.

Okay I do know that I am to get up VERY early (which I am definitely NOT  a
morning person!-ugh!) for set up and all the early birds.

Any hints and tips?
Good to keep things up high?
Do I have to hang all the kids clothes and what's the best
way to display them if I don't?
I have a ton of books....paperbacks and hardbacks....what's an avg. charge for
these?
What about children's shoes that are in GOOD condition?
Maternity clothes?

I did get some ones (20), fives (4) and tens (2) for change...and have some
loose change I figured I'd add to it too.  Do I need more?
Any tips or hints on how best to hold all of it?  Box?
Do I need to wear a fag bag around my waist?  Always looks like I'm pregnant
when I wear those...barf.

I did put an ad in for Friday and Saturday's paper saying "moving sale" plus
hammered in little signs all over the neighborhood.  Any other ideas?

And sorry NO stamps in this sale...are you nuts! Those babies don't leave my
sight..heehee.

Thanks in advance for all info!  Hoping to clear out as much as possible. Just
in case I have the Vietnam Veterans coming on Tuesday to pick up any leftover!
At least it will be a tax write off.

Next WEEK -
Then on Thursday they come to pack us all up. Friday they load the truck and
Saturday we move. Boohoo..........

   This would be good for newbies if you want containers for goodies. I
love them, so want to share!

SWAP:  Box/Container Directions Swap

ITEMS: Copy of favorite box/container pattern--send more than one if
wish, but will only get one pattern booklet.
DETAILS:  Maybe ideas for decorating it, etc--photo copies of picture of
actual box might be helpful if it's a complicated one.  Or try to draw a
picture of finished box--I'm  one who COULD usually figure out what those
test diagrams were supposed to be, but some people can't!
MAILING INFO: $4 for copying and mailing in US.  Not sure how to do it if
you're somewhere else.  Anybody got suggestions?

You'll get a lot of patterns back--I have over 60, so will be putting
some of mine in there, also.  Maybe later we'll actually swap finished

Try library if you're looking for ideas.  Take apart a box/container you
got perfume, a cd, jewelry, etc.  Lots of cute ideas in stamping books
and magazines.  See the internet!

rofl!  I housebroke my kids using little chocolate candies.. they could
count well before then!  (see.. I taught 'em to count goin' up and down the
stairs to get their diapers changed!  hehe.. MOF, my son could do addition
and subtraction.. ok.. we went up 5 steps.. how many more?  8!  that's
right!  how many altogether?  13!.. not cuz he was smarter.. cuz he was more
*stubborn*.. took me an extra year and a half to *get* him housebroke! and I
got tired of just countin' stairs all those years!) (for a while there
though, the answer to *any* math was 13!  and ya hadda *scream* it!  rofl!)

come to think of it, I was fairly skinny, til they were both housebroken (if
ya discount Erin's year between 2 and 3, when she was housebroke and I was
