A beautiful card appeared in my mailbox.  The theme is stars!
First the envelope made out of kraft paper and strewn with stamped
shooting stars in black and gold, even the stamp fit the theme.
Then the beautiful card:  Deep plum cardstock with a long fibered purple
paper with multi-colored threads in it as the first layer - but only a
wide stripe of it along the folded edge, then over that and off to the
right is another very gauzy, silvery paper with silver thread and gold
and silver speckles.  On top of all that is a natural cardstock piece
with a natural deckle and stamped with Mary Englebreit's girl sitting on
the crescent moon among the stars.  She's dressed inplum  purple with
purple ribbons on her hat.  Anno put shiny gold stars here and there on
the card, and punched a star hole in the top right corner, where a silver
star the exact same size peeks out from the interior.  And written on the
card, curving around the papers is: " . . .and a red hat that doesn't go
and doesn't go and doesn't suit me . . . "

A wonderful, whimsical, beautifully coordinated card.

Speaking of Pearl Stores, I went to one in San Francisco on Monday of this
week.  WOW  I spent almost three hours in it.  It was great.  I dont think
I had ever been in a craft store that large.  I had spent an hour in the
store before asking where the stamps were.  There were two more floors to
investigate!!

Then I walked 12 blocks to the addres I found for Stamp Francisco. They
were no longer there  Wah!!!   So I had to walk another 12 blocks back to
my hotel room before I could collapse from leg exhaustion.

Anyway,  Pearl is great.

Hi,
I agree with you on this.  I still consider myself a newbie  (stamping one
year) and am always nervous in joining swaps.  I don't join many swaps for
this reason, and it seems the ones I join, not many folks wind up posting
they received them.   I would like to see this done more.  This subject has
come up before, though and some folks feel it isn't necessary to post
descriptions.  I know there are different feelings on this subject.   I
always try to post about the cards I received  (although I always have
trouble putting it into words!).  I do disagree with you on one point....I
DO want pats on the back!   LOL!  Ok..just kidding...but it is a bit of a
confidence booster to someone who is unsure of their work.  Seeing how
someone describes your card (even if the descriptions are "boosted up" a
bit) can really give you motivation to continue doing this very expensive
and addicting hobby!  :)

Subject: RS: Christmas Angel swap

I received the cards from this swap on Tuesday.  I thought I didn't have any
swaps pending, and was happily surprised when I had this good mail day!!!
Sherri McKnight hosted this swap.  She sent along a page of images of the
angels she used on her card for me to make 4 cards using her images.
Thanks, Sherri.  These are great cards.  And I want every angel stamp used!!
I received cards from:
Robin Cramer - An Indian maiden embossed in gold on tan cardstock.
[e-mail] - Angel layered on corrugated paper and a saying; a plaid bow
and a tree punched from the corrugated paper.
Carol Trimble: A flying angel holding two hearts layered on white with holly
stamped and colored.
Carole Mork: On white has stamped and glittered four trees, and above the
trees has an angel layered on grey which is layered on red feathery paper.
Sherri: On dark blue she has layered some red feathery paper and then two
little  angels is stamped and cut out and embossed.
Paula Strain: Has stamped a house and trees and bear and in the "sky" has
stamped an angel and saying "angels watching over you."

I am not good at descriptions because I don't know the names of the paper or
the techniques.  For instance, the angel from Carol Trimble is shiny, and
the feathery papers are so nice. The bows, and corner punches and the
coloring on all these cards are just fantastic.  I have a whole year to
practice for my own Christmas cards for 1998, and a lot of ideas to try from
this swap.

This morning I was looking through a collection of antique(almost) cards and
came across a piece of paper with some two cent stamps on it. Each stamp is
stuck on in a different direction and someone wrote under each the meaning
behind the positioning. Does anybody else remember when they used to say that
putting a stamp upside down meant you loved the person you were writing? I
still get a little uncomfortable when I put one upside down on a utility bill
or something.
I don't know if I'm explaining it clearly, but here's the definitions that
were written out. I thought it was kind of interesting with Valentine's Day
coming up.

Right side up=business
Upside down=lovesick, lonesome
Sideways, head to the right=love & kisses
Sideways, head to the left=I promise not to leave you.
Diagonal, towards the right=Won't you marry me?
Diagonal, towards the left=Yes, I will.

Don't know about the vacine, but I do know that even though once you get
the chicken pox you are not SUPPOSED to get them again.  However, I had
them three times by the time I was eight years old, (wow was the doctor
surprised the third time) and considering I'm just a boy who won't grow
up, that wasn't all that long ago.

Let's see - a week ago I went to three stamp stores -  always saying "I
don't need any more rubber stamps".  Let's just say I spent several hours
indexing and putting away the stamps I "didn't need".  No a stamper never
has enough stamps.  You may say you do but its not true.  So just keep
dragging your DH and he'll soon learn.

 Further to the RS Challenge to send a RAK once every week for 4 weeks
 to someone you haven't RAK'd before and outside your own country, it
 will be allowed that if you are in continental US, you may also
 RAK US citizens in Hawaii, Alaska and US military bases not located
 in Continental US.  There are about 50 people on the snail list
 already who don't live in the US, but allowing the others should
 increase
 it to about 100 choices.  The receiver of the card does NOT have to
 be a stamper or even on the snail list.  That's just an easy source
 of addresses.  Remember to post on Valentine's Day the name and country
 of your 4 RAKees (don't include the whole address)

Here's my best guess.

If the EP blew away, whatever you were using to "attach" it to the paper
(some type of embossing fluid) was dry.

I always heat from the top; personal choice.  I  find that with dye basesd
inks, you gotta move at light speed to get the ep on before the ink dries.
I usually turn the heat gun on, hold it about 2-3 inches away from the EP,
and gently wave it around... That way, I don't scorch the paper and the EP
does melt.

Play around with distance and waving the gun around a bit and see what
happens for you....

Just be sure that the EP has adhered to the ink, be it colored or embossing....

I don't usually join in "taking sides" type tans, but I gotta say a little
bit here.

Leilani has said my thoughts very well indeed....

I don't think I'd want to be President...not for all the money, fame,
rubber stuff in the world... It's a hidiously difficult job and while there
have sure been Presidents I haven't liked at all, I do stand behind them
because the job is so awfully difficult.  No President ever does less than
his best, even if that best isn't all that great, or idiologically to my
personal preference.

I do think Leilani is correct in saying that Clinton is no worse nor better
than almost all others in the morals department.  I'm not sure that I
understand why we need to "hound" public figures.  I suspect that there is
hardly ANYBODY alive today who has not at least one skeletin (spelling?) in
their personal closet.  I have surely done stuff in the past that I would
be most unhappy to have known publically...and I've grown and matured and
would NEVER do that stuff again....I would hope that's true for all of us.


And I must add that there does appear to be a bit of "witch hunting" going
on....look at all the $ spent, at public expense, around the Whitewater
issue, with so very little produced as a result.

One thing that concerns me about this spate of "attacks" on the president
is the ability of an individual to hold public figures "hostage" to
whatever they wish to accuse them of.   I think what has happened to
Clinton is indicative of the hunger some few people feel for a public day
in court, so to speak.  Unscrupulous people could do this non-stop,
spending a ton of public money for their own gratification.  I do recognize
that there are sometimes "real" issues that come up and that need to be
aired.  How we tell the difference is a mystery to me, but the whole area
is of concern.
